  1. ^ Yes, we're all aware that Magic Mountain is a thrill-seeker oriented amusement park. But that's not his point. What he's saying is true. The new management wants to change the image of Magic Mountain as a big roller coaster park into something more family friendly. That's the mantra and aim of the new Six Flags management. Personally, I believe this will work with some of the smaller parks, but with Magic Mountain, it will be many years before that label will change with the park among the millions it attracts in the SoCal region. Yes they definitely would. But them completely refurbishing Colossus from start to end is as likely as me finding a Penguin waddling around in the Sahara.
  2. Anybody still anxious as to what is planned for the former Psyclone footprint? I pray a Tony Hawk Big Spin doesn't go there. The last thing the park needs is another roller coaster -- and one that has relatively low capacity at that. If a Wiggles World or Thomas Town is put in, I'd like to see how they'd incorporate it into that area of the park...also hoping they'd open up a pathway up by Cyclone 500 so the area by Deja Vu isn't a dead-end as it has for the past how many years now.
  3. And European ride operators don't have shaven armpits.
  4. Uh. That is the most ignorant thing I have read here in a long time. Why would a park try and tie in a theme like that? The Chinese forced to build the American railroads for very little or no pay and the casualties inflicted on that group is a stain in American history -- not something you'd want to pay tribute to. That's like suggesting a park could theme a Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles or KFC and tie it into a Southeast themed area because Africans were enslaved in America and picked cotton for the white people.
  5. Corona del Mar is apart of Newport Beach.
  6. Not sure if any of you know this, but the shooting gallery that's being removed to be replaced by the Panda Express restaurant was actually the world's first shooting gallery attraction. Another "first" that was introduced by Knott's Berry Farm. Ugh. How can you even mention Great America in the same sentence as Knott's when it comes to nostalgic landmarks and attractions being removed? A near 1/3 of what's inside Knott's is more than three decades older than the first things that were erected at Great America. We're talking about some buildings as old as from 1954 (Haunted Shack) being demolished (for whatever reason it doesn't matter).
  7. Most of it has to do with the articulation of the cars that make up the train. A completely straight drop off-the-lift for an inverted coaster would require a very large pullout on the bottom but most importantly at the top as to not risk bodily injury to riders (I'm talking about the legs). Though Katun does have a straight first drop for the most part, it still has a bank to it at the top that allows it to safely enter the straight section of drop track. If you look at Raptor and Orochi, most of the first half of the drop is banked off to the left or right before straightening out towards the bottom. And other reasons such as decreased visibility during the descent as well as requiring much more room to accomodate the wider pull-outs. Banking drops by design, are always and can be built steeper than a straight drop-off on any closed-circuit inverted coaster.
  8. Good to hear you had a really good time. When I read trip reports like these, it gives me that slight realization that Magic Mountain isn't entirely a dump. Glad to know a lot of people still love the park.
  9. GA can't build much higher due to the San Jose airport being very close. Not like that had too much to do with how tall it ended up being though. Keep in mind that when DZ opened at Great America in 1996, it was the tallest free-fall drop tower in the world at 224-feet -- though today, to us that is hardly considered very high, at the time it was introduced, a drop ride of that height was underheard of.
  10. ^ You're correct. It's going to be another "plaza" in which will mainly be for mixed business and retail use. Go to the Newhall/Valencia site and you can see the plans. These "new City-walk" rumors have been circulating for years. Not going to happen.
  11. I just realized (though I'm sure it's of no real importance to anyone here) with Behemoth, Canada's Wonderland will be second to Cedar Point in number of coasters in one park (along with Magic Mountain of course). You are technically complaining though. That is about as likely as somebody mispronouncing or not knowing what Goliath or Mammoth means.
  12. ^ For a park with an attendance pull as low as Michigan's Adventure, an SLC would be considered a very good ride. Hell, even a relocated Boomerang would become the park's biggest headliner thrillride (next to Shivering Timbers of course).
  13. Why do you think you're going to get bashed for typing how you feel about the ride? Whatever you think about it is your own, and nobody can argue it. Some will love a particular roller coaster, but there are also others that might dislike it. It's all down to personal taste.
  14. Are we sheep that have to agree and praise everything that the park does? I don't see anyone saying the ride will suck. Only some people are voicing their opinions on certain points of the ride. The ride will be good. But I still don't like the name. So deal with it. Never did I say anything about everyone having to like what this particular parks does, nor did I shun anybody about saying the ride will suck. I did however just point out all the usual obnoxious whining and nitpicking (which you can't deny, is true) about a newly announced ride. So no thanks to you for putting words in my mouth.
  15. Not going to lie. I'm really surprised by this announcement, and all in a good way. Wasn't sure if it was going to impress me, but I not only am I impressed, but overly so. Never expected it to be as tall as 230-feet, nor with a opening drop as steep as 85-degrees. The camelback packed layout looks extremely promising for airtime lovers. And of course I'm annoyed at the usual group that has to whine and b*tch about things as trivial as colors, the name, and how it looks like an "incomplete" hypercoaster. Nobody in the viscinity of that park that's an enthusiast would ever imagine a ride of this magnitude to ever come to Canada's Wonderland. I would be over-joyed if Magic Mountain had this instead of Goliath -- and couldn't even begin to cross my fingers that Knott's Berry Farm would maybe someday build a ride like this. Do you even know the definition of "Behemoth"? If there's ANYTHING any of you guys can't complain about is the name. I think it's brilliant and is very catchy. It's simple, short and easy to memorize, straight-forward, very intimidating, and describes the ride perfectly all in 3-syllables. More so, it fits the title of Canada's largest coaster quite well: be·he·moth n. 1. Something enormous in size or power. 2. Any creature or thing of monstrous size or power.
  16. You're wrong. It's actually Son of Face/Off™ - The Revenge.
  17. I highly doubt it's going to be another roller coaster. Possibly some type of flume to replace White Water Landing?
  18. If you want to be technical, Busch Gardens Europe's Griffon does.
  19. Add another vote of confidence towards Viper. I love that ride. One of my favorites at the park. It's got this raw intensity you really can't experience on any of the newer coasters nowadays. It's definitely not rough on my ears and head now that I'm taller (though it used to give me a big headache when I was shorter in height). I can see how some shorter riders complain that it's painful.
  20. Sue Carpenter was quoted saying Flashback would be dismantled and the park is EXPLORING the POSSIBILITY to reassemble it in another location in the park at a later date. Never did she say it was confirmed for sure to be rebuilt in the park. She was quoted more than 6 months ago and in that half-a-year's worth of time, plans can definitely change, especially with plans regarding an idle roller coaster. I know for a fact that Flashback WILL be removed sometime during Magic Mountain's "winter operation schedule" between September and December. However, I don't know whether or not it will be rebuit, but PERSONALLY do not believe it will happen. I think once they take it down, that'll be the end of Flashback.
  21. Turns out that Flash height counter thing maxes out at 175-feet. I'm more inclined to believe it's a junior-hyper like La Ronde's Goliath...but doesn't the ads in the park say that there's nothing else like it in Canada? And it will be the park's biggest attraction (a large Floorless would definitely be the park's biggest ride).
  22. Well, it's definitely a Floorless or a Hyper...I'm sure that was established awhile ago. Could possibly be a Hydra The Revenge - sized Floorless?
  23. One train operation on coasters, still? What a great turn-around year for Magic Mountain.
  24. Deja Vu is more reliable nowadays and despite its popularity with park guests, a ride of this hourly rider capacity does not belong at a park like Magic Mountain. Very large open-circuit roller coasters are pointless because they are meant for large parks with big budgets but their low capacity is a paradox as they can't handle large crowds.
  25. ^ It looks to me the entrance "Six Flags New Orleans" sign has indeed been removed. You can still see the multiple verticle poles that it used to hang from. It's real crazy how overgrown the parking lot area is with wild plants. Kind of surreal to see a modern amusement park look like one of those abandoned ones from the mid-20's. If I recall correctly, most if not nearly all of the rides and attractions sustained too much damage to be relocated in the future. Batman was the only ride which structural parts that were not submerged underwater for a long period of time. I suspect the Zydeco Scream, The Jester and Mega Zeph will be scrap metal.
