New colors for Top Thrill Dragster and Raptor! Source: OnPoint blog Source: OnPoint blog Of course in typical Tony Clark fashion it's a joke. Both are being repainted to their original color schemes respectively, but you gotta love his sense of humor Source: OnPoint Blog -
A 5 day trip to Kentucky Kingdom? Even with Storm Chaser and Lightning Run, and the waterpark if you're into that, KK is a 2 day park at the most. Just go weekdays in June, if that doesn't work, weekends in early June shouldn't be miserable. Oh, and stop by Holiday World while you're at it. i'm just the kind of person who enjoys a long term experience at a good park ( get to know the nooks and crannies of the coasters ) in my opinion, that's impossible to do in a 2 day trip. You gotta be there long enough to let the excitement settle, then feel like you live there as if it was your home park. That's when you can truly take in the full aspect of a coaster. I feel that when you hit that relaxed state on a coaster you have achieved the best experience your gonna get. I recently took a 5 day trip to Carowinds, by the end of the trip, i equate riding Fury to sitting in my chair at home watching one of my favorite movies. "pleasure at it's finest". And yes i would love to do Holiday World in the same trip, but time off work and budget don't alot for it. It'll be it's own trip sometime though. Whatever floats your boat man, but Kentucky Kingdom for five days is overkill. I know you said it won't be, but 2 days is plenty at Kentucky Kingdom. Spend another day of your trip at Holiday World and it won't affect your budget. So two days at KK and one at HW will be much cheaper than 5 at Kentucky Kingdom.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
Koasterking48 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would also like to compliment (and curse to some extent) the "skaters/sliders" for scaring the hell out of us multiple times in Freak Street. The actors in the scare zones were all great last night! We only did two houses, which were Delta Delta Die and Board to Death, and while they weren't anything to write to home about, they were above average. I really wanted to try Blackout but the group decided that simply did not want to wait long for it. Overall, this haunt was much better than it was a few years ago the last time I was here. It was pretty impressive! -

Great report Brent! It was really a great day crowds wise especially for a Saturday. We all had a blast at KI together and I'm glad I could spend the day with you Zach and Chris! The tower looked incredible at night! -

Thanks for sharing! Kings Island's haunt is often overlooked and was surprisingly good the last time in went to it. Probably just there for haunt unless they're replacing the roof shingles during the off season. No need to start a rumor there. I'll be at the park with some other forum members this Saturday, so we are hoping the rain (and crowds) holds out for us! -

My group dropped around $115-120 each for FL+ on a Saturday in July. Yes, it is a lot but it was honestly worth it after seeing 2.5+ hour lines. The problem with Fast Lane is that they are not very limited. I can't even think of the last time I've seen or read about Fast Lane ever selling out. Anyways, Maverick and TTD were still gaining 45-1 hour waits with FL+. The easy solution to this problem is by making the passes more limited/exclusive. However that's telling a business to make less money, which is not going to happen. So the next best (term used lightly here) is to make a price hike. Is $140 too much for Fast Lane only? Probably. But as long as there's people willing to pay it, it'll stay that high. I do miss when Fast Lane was under one tier and was around $60-70 at most. -
They did re-track Gwazi, but it wasn't this extensive. Thanks for the clarification. I'm interested to see how long GCI's retracking will keep Ghostrider running well. Is the info sent to Screamscape about GCI even official? Most of the time that site is only sent in rumors so I'd doubt there'd be anything before the November announcement.

What? I'm a huge B&M fan. It's just that a dive coaster feels redundant with Gatekeeper and Rougarou nearby. Sheikra and Griffon are far different experiences from a wing coaster like Gatekeeper. Rougarou is simply a floorless coaster that is also nothing like a dive coaster. I'm failing to see how a Dive Coaster is redundant. Edit: Sorry, I did find one similarity. Both of the riders' feet dangle. Might as well throw in Raptor too -
What's causing the U.S Intamin drought?
Koasterking48 replied to fraroc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As others have stated, the U.S. market has shifted pretty dramatically since 2010. Premier and RMC have moved into the spotlight now (as well as B&M staying steady all these years) and have filled the void. Could the drought have something to do with Intamin's reliability reputation? Maybe, but they are far from being "blacklisted." I see Cedar Fair being more likely to return after more of the overseas Intamin installations prove to be reliable. They seem to have the same "wait-and-see" strategy with RMC. -

I just want to state once again that I LOVE how Cedar Point does this. Every park should adopt this policy. Agreed, but unfortunately, not all parks have so many employees living so close to the park. Many employees are from Evansville which is a 45 minute drive away. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
Koasterking48 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I understand the frustration that first time visitors may have by the lines closing early. Someone mentioned Indiana minor labor laws which is where I would point the blame. Now that Holiday World has expanded to being a regional park over the past few years, it may be time to change the policy. Since HW has been my home park growing up, over the years I've just accepted the line closing how it is. Like I said, I get why it's still there, but it could be time to change this sooner or later. -
B&M Restraints: Old vs. New
Koasterking48 replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've also wondered about this many times. It probably has something to do with forces in the inversions. The picture you posted was of the B&M family coaster that has no inversions while every other new restraint installment does. But, Mack and Intamin seemed to manage just fine with lapbars on their coasters with inversions... -
B&M Restraints: Old vs. New
Koasterking48 replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't have a preference. The new restraints work very well on the rides that I've ridden that don't lock (Banshee, Thunderbird, Gatekeeper) although they have the slightly uncomfortable pressure on the shoulders. The older ones, while they do cause head-banging, don't have the pressure like the vests do. I'm perfectly okay with the new restraints on Valrvn because it is actually possible to get airtime with the vests (look at Thunderbird's S-curve!). -

Did anyone see the price tag anywhere on the minisite? I couldn't find it in the press release, and usually Cedar Fair parks advertise how much their new coasters cost (although the Sandusky Register did mention $15 million I believe). -

It may be more aerodynamic to allow a faster top speed? I think the colors look fantastic. This will certainly be a great fit into CP's world-class lineup. -
Theme Park Three Mistakes

1) The ride had reached the end of its service life 2) Wilderness Run fits better into the Camp name than Jr. Gemini 3) What are you talking about? Maverick? -

Thanks for the update. It seems likely to me that they are going to build a new marina entrance alongside the coaster as well.
