  1. I'm not one to go super in depth honestly, but here's how I look at the two. Lightning Run is fast, well-paced, and frantic. The airtime gradually increases in intensity by the final few hills, and the laterals are more noticeable. Also, the low-to-the-ground slalom turns are a fun part of the ride as well. LR pretty much feels and rides just like an RMC, except for the weird seat backs. Lightning Run has the con of feeling less complete compared to Storm Chaser by having a more abrupt ending. Storm Chaser is intense, twisted, and has better/more intense ejector airtime. The first 3/4ths of the ride are where it shines. The barrel roll drop is one-of-a-kind in the U.S. The first major airtime hill is the best RMC airtime moment I've experienced (having ridden this, Wicked Cyclone, Outlaw Run, and Goliath), with sustained ejector air. The other airtime hills are typical abrupt bursts similar to WC. The laterals on the off-axis airtime hills are fantastic, as its throwing you out of your seat. However, like I said, the ride does lose quite a bit of speed after the corked roll. So the ending is more coasting through rather than slamming the brakes like LR. I'd say overall, I'd give the slight edge to Storm Chaser since it feels more complete, but it really can go back and forth. Both rides are excellent in their own way.
  2. Really, the only issue I have with the ride is the final helix being just 'meh'. Otherwise, you are still getting great airtime on all four of the bunny hops despite how slow it looks in the video. It's another case of the front POV not doing this ride justice (for the most part). I 100% believe that the ride overall still is more intense than Goliath. It may not beat Wicked Cyclone for me, but it's by absolutely no means a weak ride. I wouldn't be surprised to see it crack many people's Top 10-15
  3. Comparatively, the first half of Storm Chaser matches the insanity of Wicked Cyclone. The barrel roll drop is wonderful in the back row and the airtime on the straight hill and off-axis hills is incredible. I'd say the straight hill is easily the best airtime of the RMC's I've ridden. There are quite a few lateral moments from the off-axis hills as well. The ride does have the downside of losing momentum after the corked roll. There is a lot of speed being killed off quickly, though you still got great airtime on those four bunny hills. It's pretty obvious to see why RMC changed the design from the outward banked turn to a standard helix. Don't get us wrong, the ride is still Top 10-15 material, and will certainly be a hit for Kentucky Kingdom. Riding it 16 times today really made me appreciate how awesome it's design overall is! Another thing I'd like to add. The ride experience can noticeably change depending on the time of day or if the train is empty/full. Our last ride on it felt MUCH faster than the first one. So the second half of the ride's speed is highly dependent on those factors.
  4. Storm Chaser was absolutely fantastic! Plenty of airtime, good laterals, and the barrel roll drop is insane! 4 rides down and I'm loving it! The intensity is up there with Wicked Cyclone. I'll post a full review later.

  6. A quick recap of today's presentation: -Shoot the Rapids is officially confirmed to be removed and scrapped (will not be relocated) -Go-Karts and Skyscraper are also being removed. Ripcord is staying, but it's unclear if it'll be relocated from its current spot. -Chick-Fil-A is being replaced with Frontier Inn, serving chicken tenders, salads, etc. -Hurricane Hannah's is being replaced with a Coca-Cola Station -New pre-opening backstage tour of Valravn -New Ride Warriors Club that "will provide exclusive experiences thought the season" Membership is $120 and is limited to 1000 members -Coasting for Kids will not return at Cedar Fair parks. Instead, each park will find and support local charities. CP will be hosting a Give Kids the World "reunion" at the park.
  7. http://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2016/01/cedar_point_hopes_to_combine_r.html With the success of Canada's Wonderland's Thunder Run, Cedar Point is looking into maybe adding VR to one of their coasters. No confirmation, just some possible testing this summer. VP McLure mentions Cedar Creek Mine Ride and Iron Dragon as the most likely to receive the VR experience. Also, it will most likely be an upcharge.
  8. Here is a picture from Tony on Twitter of what the immelmann looks like in the park. I do have to agree that the scale of Valravn is much larger than I previously had thought! Twitter: @TonyClarkCP
  9. Looks to be a really great renovation for the Legend, as well as lots of retracking for the other too. Hopefully this partnership with GCI means exciting things for the park's future!
  10. Another blog post: http://www.holidayworld.com/holiblog/2016/01/08/whats-at-stake/ Looks like this will be a really interesting project
  11. Along with the blog, here is a short YouTube video with some neat statistics confirming a new tunnel: [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]
  12. The ride itself was disappointing and a maintenance headache. The elevator was really the only fun part of the ride as the rest was a bland pre-lift section, boring drop, and underwhelming splashdown. Pilgrims Plunge would be closed for most (if not all) of the day, so many people didn't even get to ride it while it was still there. It really wasn't that bad of a ride, but it wasn't good one either.
  13. While I officially can't confirm this (obviously not being a park rep.) those Timberliner trains are definitely the ones for The Voyage and the manufacturing date should be 2010 since that was the year they were originally planned to be ready.
  14. Pilgrims Plunge: Holiday World needed a Shoot-the-Chutes attraction for the park, but this ride did not live up to expectations. The ride was closed almost as much as it was open, as well as being an overall underwhelming experience. Yes, it had the "record-breaking" marketability and a unique elevator lift. However, the end result was extended downtime and plain disappointment.
  15. That's what I was thinking. But the element could be anything really! I remembered hearing that Legend is getting an extensive retrack, so maybe we will be seeing some big changes here!? But why start this late in the off season? The Legend was closed during Happy Halloween Weekeends to start the off-season retracking early, so the project has been going since early September.
  16. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]For those wondering about the 2016 announcement, we'll have the answer in January.
  17. Did they just show clips of the original movie, or edit the original into a shortened version or was it a shortened remake? They edited the movie into a shortened version with the barebones plot. It wasn't as bad as people are saying it was but I do agree that there is room for improvement. The motion effects were jarring when you were basically watching a movie from the 30's.
  18. Seriously, it was one of my favorite visits ever yesterday! We had a blast! After an entire season (minus Media Day) of MCBR stops, this was unbelievable! Zach's face pretty much sums up how surprised we were.
  19. Thanks for reading! Goliath is a great coaster in itself. However, I also rode Wicked Cyclone and Outlaw Run this year, and Goliath simply does not have that level of intensity the other two do. That's not to say it is a bad coaster, because it is definitely not! Just a bit underwhelming compared to the other two RMC's. However, the fact that we had mini-ERT certainly helped make the experience even better! Thank you! Thanks, me too! A lot of the angles of Goliath I got were from the backstage tour since it is not very visible elsewhere. Being able to walk under Goliath's zero-g stall was pretty neat! Yup, between Whizzer, Raging Bull, and Goliath, I found them to all be fantastic. The park's overall coaster collection was surprisingly really good!
  20. Six Flags Great America-(10/16) TR Theme Park Engineering and Design (TPED) at Purdue was invited to Six Flags Great America for a behind-the-scenes tour of the park. After the tour, they provided 2 free ERT rides on Goliath! TPED were free to go to the park when it opened at five thanks to the complimentary tickets they provided us. First, I would like to thank the administration for pulling the strings to allow us to come to the park for free as well as take us on the tour. This was actually my first time to the park, so I have some ride reviews ahead! Overall, the actually public experience was okay even with some frustrations about park operations, certain food pricing, etc. While our group had a rough start to the night with these things, it progressively got better! We opted to not get Flash pass, so we were only able to get one lap on every coaster except for Spacely's Sprokets. Goliath: The best part of our tour was being allowed to ride Goliath twice! I chose the backseat both times since many had said it was the best seat. During our tour, there was lots of hype built up for this ride, and I had also read mixed reviews online. There are quite a few things to be said about this ride Yes, the ride should be longer, but at the same time, the pace gets killed rapidly. There's a good amount of airtime, but the two inversions are the highlights of Goliath. Overall it lands in my top 10 woodie list. Even for being "the bottom" RMC, it still is better than a large percentage of other rides! Raging Bull: What a surprise! So many reviews for it have been negative saying there's no airtime, but I certainly felt some. That first drop in the back seat was crazy! There's a lot of little pops of air all over the ride. I honestly thought this ride was really great, and definitely a surprise! Whizzer: Solid Schwarzkopf that Great America has preserved well over the years. This was actually a highly-anticipated ride and it did not disappoint! It gave a great night ride and had some good tree headchopper moments. Whizzer still runs butter-smooth after all of these years! X-Flight: This was number 3 of the 4 American wing coasters. Another solid coaster by B&M! I really liked the inversions featured and I think the slow inline roll was fantastic! It probably is tied with Gatekeeper for me, although Thunderbird is still much better. American Eagle: What I found weird is that a lot of the coaster is pretty rough, but I still liked it. The helix was best-described to me as an "earthquake simulator" and that couldn't have been more true. There were some good airtime hills mixed in as well. Viper: Another surprise for me! Lots of laterals and great airtime mixed in here. Easily the best part was the double-down. I came into this ride not expecting much and was shocked! There's a lot to love about it. Batman the Ride: I have ridden some other clones before, but it felt nice to ride the original. Can't say much else about it though other then me loving its intensity. Superman UF: One of the few coasters were it fufilled it's expectation. This was my first Superman clone, but I knew I would be disappointed. Besides the pretzel loop, no other elements stand out.For some reason, the ops decided to pull off a train after the park being open for a solid 15 minutes. A painfully slow line became even slower. The first of a few gripes in our trip. V2: Having ridden Wicked Twister, V2 just does not stack up. Intamin impulses are a unique experience in themselves, so I still enjoyed it. Demon: Well, it's better than Corkscrew at CP, but not by much. The tunnel was honestly the best part of the ride. Dark Knight: This was actually our last ride/credit of the night. It was also my first Dark Knight clone. Nothing to write home about and many effects were not working, so pretty well got nothing out of this ride. Little Dipper: our group did a TPED takeover on it. Fun little wooden coaster but mainly just rode if for the credit. Giant Drop: Another fantastic Intamin Drop tower. I actually prefer this model to the gyro drop at KI/KD. Terror Twister: Pure INSANITY. Who knew Teacups in the dark with strobe-lights would turn out to be one of the most intense experiences ever. I just could not stop laughing the entire time! More backstage-y-ness History and more history Love me some Batman Great-looking entrance. It was pretty neat seeing the coasters cycle. Plus it helped me in getting my bearings straight This was one of the few backstage parts of the tour. It's the largest warehouse on the property. The majority of the backstage tour was actually being inside the park a few hours before it opened. Raging Bull was certainly a highlight of the trip! Goliath certainly has a large presence in the park One more because I love the look of its lift hill. The only nighttime picture I took. Seriously, the first drop in the back is amazing. Once again, I'd like to thank Six Flags Management for allowing us to tour the park and visit for free. It was a fun day for TPED! X-Flight is such a photogenic coaster. Loved this angle of Goliath The zero-G stall is probably my favorite element on the ride... Meh. TPED was allowed to park in the Employee lot for the tour. Pretty nice view from here
  21. I wish I would've been assigned to the front. My first and only ride on Goliath was the very last row, and it was terrible. I didn't even bother coming back to the ride later considering there's two other coasters in the park I'd rather marathon instead.
  22. ^ It really sounds like an interesting concept. Cedar Fair seems to really be stepping outside its comfort zone with these dark ride/ 3D show experiences.
  23. From Screamscape Don't know how believeable this really is. I seriously doubt any major modifications to the layout will be made, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. Edit: I will say that it would be interesting if B&M/Clermont have nothing to do with the new track if Universal is reaching out to another company. Who knows, since Universal is being tight-lipped about the whole renovation.
  24. ^ That is true, I'll take back what I said Now that I think about it, SDC's collection as it stands now is really great. Not one of their major coasters is anywhere near a dud.
  25. ^ Wouldn't it be a little redundant have two family launch coasters? I understand Firechaser Express and Powderkeg don't have a lot in common, but they both fit within the same height restriction category so younger riders can enjoy. You would really have to differentiate the two from one another. By the way, I think Firechaser Express looks like an excellent family coaster so I would be perfectly happy with SDC getting something similar.
