  1. ^Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the Battle wall and how it works. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]
  2. ^Yes. The audience reported "50-foot" fall was only what they were able to see in view. They couldn't see the rest of her fall into the pit which is another 30-40 feet deep. The company had a meeting at 5:30 p.m. last Sunday and word from that was that her wire did snap. However this won't be officially confirmed until the police investigation is finished. I'm not sure what's gonna happen with that "Battlefield" scene but honestly I don't see them performing it again unless they install some kind of netting or airbags as a secondary safety shield. Also, Sarah was a trapeze artist in the Toon Circus Parade at Disneyland Paris about a decade ago. Everyone there at DLP that worked with her are absolutely devastated.
  3. Update: http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/jul/02/ka-performer-fell-90-feet-her-death-coroner-report/#axzz2Y3v03dwa The coroner's report stated that she died from blunt force trauma from a 90-ft fall.
  4. Mach Tower is not reliable. A few weeks ago a cable snapped and had to be replaced and it broke down again last Thursday and has yet to reopen. Also, according to the park's website, Europe In The Air is closed for the remainder of the season. No explanation has been given regarding its closure. http://seaworldparks.com/en/buschgardens-williamsburg/Attractions/Rides/Europe-in-the-Air
  5. I don't think heat was a factor. The show performs weekly from Tuesday through Saturday and they do two performances each night at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. This incident happened at the end of the 9:30 show which means she did the one before that without problems. She has been with this production for many years now so she was well-adjusted to the climate there. Also, the Cirque theatres have impeccable climate control for the audience and for cast members and crew. They even simulate a blizzard inside the theatre during one of the show's scenes. From what I've been hearing from people within the company they are saying that this seems like some rigging malfunction with her wire and harness however that has yet to be confirmed until the investigation is done.
  6. This is awful news. She is friends with a really good friend of mine. In addition to being a performer she ran Cirquefit Las Vegas which is a program of classes and camps focused on physical fitness blended with circus skills. My friend's daughter took classes from her as well. Here's a pic of her teaching tightwire. And here is a pic of her in one of her KÀ costumes with two students.
  7. Carnival CEO Micky Arison steps down after 34 years. http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/06/25/3469390/carnival-sees-fewer-bookings-replaces.html
  8. Mach Tower is down again! Falcon's Fury looks awesomely terrifying! Can't wait to ride it!
  9. Looks like cooked chorizo was the cause of the salmonella outbreak at Firefly. And the reported cases has now risen close to 300 worldwide. http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2013/05/chorizo-likely-source-of-las-vegas-firefly-salmonella-outbreak/
  10. ^I bet that'll be the future home for the Electric Daisy Carnival which is usually held at the racetrack up north.
  11. More bad news for Firefly. There is now a reported 200 people sick from the salmonella outbreak. The last reported count was 89. http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2013/05/case-count-in-firefly-salmonella-outbreak-hits-200/#.UY4NoSswagY Despite the large increase, health officials are still having trouble pinpointing the source of the outbreak.
  12. Things are slowly coming back to life in Vegas. Summerlin Centre, another stalled project (off strip), will restart construction this summer and open in the latter half of 2014. Also, many banks have stopped selling foreclosures as the housing market is picking back up.
  13. The Henderson and Sahara locations are open. However, after the outbreak at the Paradise location, The Sahara location received 30 demerits and a "C" grade which they remedied the following day. The Henderson location received an "A" grade with very few demerits. I'd still be weary eating at the other locations. This is sad because the owner is a great chef but he apparently doesn't know how to run a restaurant.
  14. Major salmonella outbreak at Firefly Tapas Restaurant on Paradise Road near the Strip. It's one of three locations in Vegas. http://www.vegasinc.com/news/2013/may/02/number-sick-after-eating-firefly-more-doubles/ I ate there once in 2011. Looks like I won't be going back. This sucks too since the food is really good!
  15. They hit the wrong coaster. It should've been Mean Streak!
  16. BGW's Facebook just posted video of the transformation. They did a great job!
  17. Ferrari World just posted Chris Tucker's onride pic on their Facebook. The look on his face is hilarious!
  18. Bonnie Franklin from One Day At A Time lost her battle with pancreatic cancer today. She was 69. http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2013/03/01/bonnie-franklin-one-day-at-a-time-star/1957127/
  19. 21. The Cosmopolitan is developing a 3,000-seat theatre. http://www.lvrj.com/business/cosmopolitan-las-vegas-developing-3-000-seat-theater-188140021.html
  22. I have a friend that was a performer in Alegría at that time and if I recall correctly the Vancouver and Calgary runs were two of the fastest selling touring shows in the company's history. The entire five-week Calgary run sold out in a matter of hours which was their fastest selling touring show ever. And I believe that record still stands.
  23. The article didn't mention they were in pursuit of an NFL team. They said it would host some NFL games and maybe a probowl. Besides it's a tad bit too small for an NFL team, but it's a perfect size to host a college bowl game over the holidays. As far as fights go it would most definitely work. The Pacquiao/Clottey boxing match in Cowboys stadium drew 51,000. If they can draw that many in that stadium then they most certainly would pack in a 60,000 seat stadium in a boxing crazy town like Vegas.
  24. This new planned stadium for UNLV is quite impressive with a price tag of about $800 million and will feature a 100-yd jumbotron, two night clubs, and six 300-seat VIP suites and 50 conventional suites. The city hopes the new stadium will attract big events like MLS, NFL games, fights, college bowl games, and concerts and music festivals. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/jan/11/unlv/
