Phantasialand Discussion Thread

The expectations for this coaster are so goddam high, I believe that, even this awesomely themed and insane ejector airtime filled ride, full of twists,(just by speculating it) some people are still going to be kinda disgruntled. Nevertheless, I as well think is going to be one of europe's best rides I think that's an unfortunate but inevitable side effect. People will hunt something down to complain about, just for the sake of complaining. -
This, right here. As long as these parts come to fruition, it'll be a hit with the StL crowd. "Existing outdoor space will be turned over to old train cars and steel shipping containers redone as food and drink outlets for barbecue, burgers, ice cream, craft beer, wine and cocktails. At 18th Street and Clark Avenue, a new pedestrian entrance is to include what LHM said will be an illuminated archway to guide visitors to the plaza, which is designed for festivals, live music, farmers markets, craft fairs and other events. “Festoon lighting along the pathways in seating areas will provide illumination and guide visitors through the space,” David Fierabend, principal of Groundswell Design, said in a press release. “A special Tube Light show will be featured every 30 minutes which will synchronize with music.”

You and your... thinking... stuff! I think you're right. That phrase "Getting Closer, Interested" doesn't sound right- sounds more like they're deliberately pointing to GCI. -

Least Favorite Intamin?
pixelated85 replied to Themonerd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I completely agree. I feel like if they were to just open up the cars and let them spin freely like every other ZacSpin, the ride would be so much more tolerable and fun. If I were to strictly say may least favorite coaster I've ridden by Intamin, it would be Green Lantern, but because the fault is on SFMM and not Intamin, that's not fair. So I would have to say Superman (SFMM). It's not a bad or rough ride, it's just very short and uneventful, and I will admit that I was disappointed after riding it for the first time. And while I haven't been on any of the Intamin inversion coasters, I've heard those are pretty bad (at least the older ones like Colossus and 10 Inversion Coaster). Were there other modifications besides the free-spin situation? I ask because the single ride I had on it seemed to spin quite a lot. That being said, that large drop that skims the station roof did me in, as I was sort of upside down through the whole thing. I got off of it thinking I could probably qualify for disability now. -
How many times the same ride in a day ?
pixelated85 replied to mingsai's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A friend and I went to the media day for B:TR at SFSTL. This ended up being the same day as the Oklahoma City bombing. It started at sunrise, but as news got out of the bombing the crowd started to dwindle. If I recall correctly, by noon or so it was literally just my friend and I and we weren't due to get picked up until 3ish (this was pre- cell phones and it was easiest to just stick with the plan, remember those days?). Anyway, we only had to get off the ride a couple times for cameras to get switched, adjusted, etc., so... I don't know, a hundred times? Maybe less, maybe more? Different friend and I got invited to the coaster marathon at SFSTL a couple years back (and our team won!). That was an... interesting... experience. All 9 coasters for 9 hours. There were people puking like 20 minutes in (why would they even enter the contest haha). Anyway, it was gross and I won't be doing it again. -
Plopsaland De Panne Discussion Thread

What a fantastic addition! I hope more parks jump on the "small woodie with a kick" bandwagon. They're great as starter coasters for the younger ones but exciting enough for adults to enjoy as well. I enjoyed White Lightning so I have high hopes that this will be a solid addition to de Panne. -

I'm excited to see this mostly untalked about park get a small GG ride. Talk about bang for your buck. And those trains... meow! -
HWFan or anyone else in the know- random thought. Has there ever been talk of using the wooded hillside between the Boss and Allenton Rd.? There's obviously easier spaces to work with in regards to expansion of any type, but I got to thinking of it's possible uses and wondered if anyone's brought this up before.

I try to look at SFSTL as objectively as possible. It really could be a LOT worse. For a non-enthusiast, look at that coaster lineup! A little something for everyone. If we're comparing to other Six Flags parks, I could pick out just as many problems with every other one I've visited. It's Six Flags, after all. Growing up here, I remember vividly the park having only 3 coasters for most of my childhood (plus or minus the other side of the mine train and the kiddie coaster). I remember the announcement of Batman and was like, "Did I read that right? SFSTL is getting a Batman??? That must be a misprint." And then bam-, Mr. Freeze, the Boss, etc. Those were some fantastic years for the park. Would love another round of big coasters to land here, but I'm not gonna pretend I don't enjoy what the park has to offer now. Again, things could be much, much worse.

Skyplex Orlando Discussion Thread

I think this is the point where I'm lost. I do my best to keep up with the goings on in the industry, but my biggest struggle is understanding the different designers/manufacturers roles in different rides. So according to this article, Intamin AND International Amusements will both be manufacturing the ride. Are they using two companies for specific reasons (i.e., one designs the track, one designs some other part of the hardware, etc.)? Any reason one company couldn't do both? Also, with US Thrill Rides being the "inventor" of the Polercoaster, but not being the coaster manufacturer, does this mean they planned to hire someone to design the ride from the get go? If someone could spare a moment and explain this to me like I'm 5, I'd be forever grateful. -
The Official TPR Video Thread!
pixelated85 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Such a great coaster, but...maybe it's just me, or maybe an artifact of the 60 fps video, but it seems to be dragging pretty badly there. Lake Compounce is my home park and I get on BD -many- times a season, and that just looks slow for some reason. Agreed. It would be interesting to see this one on a split screen with TPR's older POV of this to compare speed. There were only two people on the train during this shoot and it was while the park was closed so I'm sure that has something to do with it. I dunno, I still thought it was running pretty damn awesome! On point. Total first world problem we're talking about here. This ride hauls regardless. -
