Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread
Geauga Dog replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Actually there's only two GIBs in the U.S. and Six Flags only owns one, which is in New England. SF sold the Great America GIB to Silverwood in Idaho and sold the Georgia GIB to a park in South America. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

^That's great to hear as it is one of my favorite flats. Would be nice if they could move it to where Chaos was just down the midway and get rid of that 3-Point Challenge they set up in its place. I also wonder if they intend on keeping that small snack stand that was behind Space Spiral that you passed as you exited Disaster Transport. -

Oooooooh the memories. When the park was converted in 2000 I broke down and bought my very first season pass and continued to get a season pass every year till the end. Loved going out there on Friday nights after work to unwind and grab some great night rides on Villain and Batman Knight Flight. As much as people blame Six Flags for the demise of the park (and that's a topic already in another thread) the SFWoA days were the most fun. Oktoberfest was always jammed with the vendors and live entertainment in the park. Fright Fest was also awesome when they had the monsters roaming and chasing guests all over the park. I miss the park alot and it's hard for me to go by it if I'm in the area. -
After riding 305 in June I can't imagine what it was like with the harder straps on the restraints when it opened. The softer straps were not a bother at all for me. Of the eight rides I got on it I only had one true case of grey out and that was from sitting in the middle of the train. The only problems I have with Maverick are the two Stengel dives towards the end when it comes to head bashing. The turns after the first drop may bang you around a little but nothing quite like those two dives. It's still a great ride and the lines it continually has testifies of it.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

I'm one who misses the days when it seemed like KI and CP were friendly rivals, often one-upping each other. Case in point 1987 KI added Vortex and CP added Iron Dragon - KI wins. Then in 1991 KI adds Adventure Express and CP adds Mean Streak - CP wins. Now with Ohio being a CF monopoly KI has somewhat lost what made it special. In reference to fanboy dreams, and KI is my favorite Ohio park, I would like to see them add more to their flat ride count over adding another major coaster for the time bieng. Windseeker was a step in the right direction. I have always felt that Coney Mall needed a few more filler rides. Even if it's a basic Musik Express, a swing bob, a suspended Top Spin like Firefall at Kings Dominion (as a replacement for Crypt), and/or bring a Larson Flying Scooters in, and as unmarketable as they may be, they sure would help with adding rides the family could ride together. Skylab's old location next to Racer and the former Flight Commander site would be ideal for new flats. -

First, I do like the logo though it looks more like a phoenix than a gatekeeper. I thought this was supposed to be some sort of gargoyle thing (which would have been a cool theme). Second, I''m very impressed with the look of Gatekeeper. It's definitely not what I expected. I was expecting the elongated in-line twist like X Flight has going over the gate. That's going to be a serious leg chopper going through both keyholes. Now I wonder if they will incorporate the elongated in-line twist at the end like Swarm, which would be sweet to see from maXair. I'm actually happy they are finally upgrading the main gate though I hope the double keyhole will be more than how it's depicted. I also hope this includes a new season pass office, which CP desperately needs to expand to make it much more efficient than what it is. CP shouldn't be upset that it was leaked. We already pretty much knew the basic layout of the ride already. -
Strangest layouts
Geauga Dog replied to Her0ofLime's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If you're going to list River King Mine Train at SFStL then Dahlonega Mine Train at SFOG should be listed. Very similar with three lifts, ground hugging helices, and a covered drop at the end. -

I'd gladly trade you CP for GAm as my home park but seeing how you feel about the Point, and I totally understand where you're coming from, that won't happen. I don't get the infatuation that the fanboys have for that place. I'm not a fan but count me in as one who thinks Maverick is the best ride there. I'm not getting my hopes up that Cedar Fair will really "do something" with this new ride. The most that we can look forward to is some newfangled inversion that would be a first on a wing coaster along with a record breaking height for this style of ride. -
Stand-Up Coasters
Geauga Dog replied to 11slataus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I doubt we'll see any new stand ups but if they were to make some sort of a comeback and they are more like Georgia Scorcher then I'm all for it. -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

I already think the entire kids offerings KD has as being the largest on the East Coast. How much more bigger do they need to make it? The teaser graphic shown, for some odd reason, reminds me of the advert for Magnum in CP's 1989 brochure. When I rode Shockwave back in June I didn't think it was that bad it's just that you had to be an expert in yoga in order to get in and out of the restraints. -

I was just thinking - will Troika also be removed or relocated since it is in the shadow of DT's lift hill? I'd hate to see it go but it is an old ride and with the recent cleaning house going on up there it wouldn't surprise me either. -

^They have the perfect spot for it - the old Pirate Ride building. Would definitely draw more people towards Blue Streak. I can't see two coasters in one season as that was never CP's style but there's a first time for everything. -
I'd very much welcome that idea as well. Camp Cartoon looks dated and could use a major renovation. With Iron Wolf gone that would be a nice chunk of land to expand into. From my perspective, during my visit a couple weeks ago, I really thought Kidzopolis looked cramped and out of place in the old American Eagle tent. I'd say move those rides into part of a new kids/family area, relocate Revolution, and put a future SkyScreamer there as a new focal point to County Fair. Bite your tongue! I'm already a little peeved with the rumor of it going to St. Louis. Putting it at Great America would result in equally similar sentiments.
-
I can see them adding a SkyScreamer since that's the hot ride Six Flags has been putting in lately however I'm a bit surprised since I'd figure they'd take a year off after adding a new marquee roller coaster. Where could they put it? Only spot open is the Iron Wolf spot but I thnk they would have big plans for that location since they kept the former station again.

I just wanted to chime in on the Beast conversation. The ride is running great. They've done a considerable amount of retrack/rebuild in parts of the ride. Last year the worst part was the turn after the ravine drop into the shed but they totally rebuilt it and now the train is very smooth through there. Didn't they switch over to the magnetic brakes after two trains collided in the station after a rain? The brakes don't bother me only when they are on harder than they should be. A light tap doesn't overly detract from the ride experience, IMO. -
I was mostly referring to the amount of parks within the Buffalo vicinity. There's quite a bit of variety even though they may not compare to the likes of Cedar Point or even Kings Island. I'd go as far as saying, if it's fair to say it this way, that Darien Lake is NY's Cedar Point (and they surely are pricing themselves at CP levels for what they have, which I don't necessarily agree with), Martin's as a smaller version of our former Geauga Lake, and Seabreeze as their Waldameer when it comes to comparing to what we have here.

In the old Premier trains I always found seat 6-2 as the best seat on the ride, if there ever was one. Of course it was a non-wheel seat and the most entertaining. You saw all the riders in front you become human bobble heads while the shreiks of pain from the riders behind you was some of the best on-ride audio ever. Though I have to admit that riding after a good soaking rain made the ride somewhat tolerable along with getting that first ride of the day since it wasn't warmed up yet. It was also one of the more intense night rides. The ride was all about the loop and once that was removed for that odd transition that took its place and the lighter Gerstlauer trains the ride was really nothing special. -
First, Superman was the first Intamin hyper ever and was highly praised when it first opened. Sure there have been more amazing Intamin hypers since but you can't just say RoS is the worst, it's actually a decent ride. The only bad things about it are the operations and the fact that I can't ride it anymore due to the belts. Second, Six Flags may not have invested much after the '99 conversion but at least they did not over expand it like they did at Geauga Lake when it became SFO and then SFWoA. The park still has a laid back atmosphere to it. I would much rather have Darien Lake as it is over having Corfu become like what Aurora/Bainbridge Township did here in Ohio by building around the park and NIMBY's moving in. Cleveland is a dump, I agree, but at least in Buffalo you have short excursions to Darien Lake and MFI, with Seabreeze, Marineland, and Canada's Wonderland within a day's drive. That's not too shabby.

Raging Seas is one of my favorite flat rides at DL but it has been looking shabby for years. There's always one or two boats out of commission every time I visit. But it is a unique flat that no other park I've been to has and I appreciate it for that alone. You have to give Herschend some time before we see a noticeable change. I was actually surprised they added the Rowdy's Ridge area so quickly after taking over operations. They did a tremendous job reinvigorating the Grizzly Run area of the park over what it used to be. I don't know how "fixable" Predator is since it is a Dinn/Summers creation but the old Voyage trains have improved it over those old trailered PTC's that were brutal. I'd much rather see Mind Eraser removed before Predator.

Don't tell SFMM that. They ripped down their Psyclone and replaced it with Apocalypse. As for SOB, it's about time. That is a nice chunk of real estate to develop. I would much rather see park expansion with maybe two decent sized coasters (a GCI twister and the B&M invert I've been wanting) along with some flats instead of just one big coaster. -
Just got back from two days at SFGAm. It's been seven years since I visited and thankfully not much has really changed. Just a few notes. 1. Crowds were light. Max waits were 20-25 minutes on Monday, even less on Tuesday. When you get to walk right up to the station on X Flight and Raging Bull then it is a bit empty. Though I did not partake of Hurricane Harbor I did walk through it to see it upclose as it was closed for the season on my last visit. It's a very nice water park with a great variety of slides. It didn't seem packed though the spaciousness of HH might be the reason why. Will have to check it all out on my next visit. 2. Viper was sluggish on Monday, even squealing around the turns. Thought that was quite uncharacteristic of the coaster and a bit disappointing but Tuesday it was running fast and the squealing was gone. It's still a fantastic, under-rated coaster. 3. Both Yankee Clipper and Logger's Run were open on Tuesday and got to ride both. Logger's Run was a soaker of a log flume. Looked like I just got off Roaring Rapids. 4. Dark Knight was as surprise. Majority of the Wild Mice I've ridden are braked to death but Dark Knight was not, giving insane (IMO) rides in the dark. Though I hate how they sacrificed Theater Royale for an indoor queue. 5. I really enjoyed X Flight, only logging six rides in two days (I didn't get to power ride many of my favorites due to the excessive heat). The twist and dive first drop is excellent and is even moreso by sitting in the front seat, left side. I don't understand the "Cedar Point does not need a wing coaster" debate but in the case of SFGAm they have been without a multi-looper since Shockwave and I think X Flight fills that void. I also realize that Demon is a multi-looper but XF does so much more. 6. Thought Buccaneer Battle was a blast even though you tire easily from working the water cannons. Oh, an someone wanted to see what X Flight looked like from Sky Trek Tower...

There is this so-called legend of the "Lake Erie Monster". http://www.weirld.com/Paranormal/Nessie-Aquatic-Cryptids/South-Bay-Bessie-Lake-Erie-Monster.html Considering the way CF uses colors for their coasters I would expect this one to have the same colors as Leviathan, Stinger, and Invertigo since it's the "hot" color shceme they are using now.
