2007 25th Season I went by the park late this afternoon to take a couple spins on a few of my favorite rides at the park... mainly Superman! I forgot to mention yesterday that Chaos was removed during the off-season. The ride was rarely operating. This was probably for the better. I wonder what the plans are to replace it? Currently the ride's former foundation is serving as a designated smoking area. Undertaker's line was 90 minutes long. I decided to pass it for today. The park was especially crowded for a Friday. However, Superman's line was a more manageable 45 minutes long. The sun sets over my favorite park in the world. I'll be back soon! Signing off, Tommy

2007 25th Season It's great to be back in South Carolina! After an extended period of time away, it's better than ever to be back in home country. I stopped by the park on my way in so I didn't stay long but I did notice some of the new changes to the park this year. It is great to see this skyline again! I went straight to V2 after getting inside the park. The old Greenway Cafe has been extensively remodeled and is now a Johnny Rocket's. The food is alot better but the prices are outrageous. The exterior really changes the mainstreet area of the park. Not too far from Johnny Rocket's is the freshly-painted Green Pearl theater, now home to the Starburst Concert Series. It's an interesting color. I'll have more photos soon! Signing off, Tommy

Coaster101 2011 Attraction Awards
coasterdude5 replied to coasterdude5's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Yes, Robb's suggestions were taken into serious consideration this year when planning the categories. The categories are a bit more specific and, as you said, unique. How would the Rocky Mountain Treatment turn into a disaster? I think it's pretty straightforward—which rough wooden coaster is most deserving of a Texas Giant-style makeover? -
New Theme Park Near Nashville?
coasterdude5 replied to Velo_editor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's a shame that this doesn't appear like it's going to get off the ground. I from my Nashville area friends that there's still a huge desire and longing for the Opryland USA days. I think if the right people were put in place, the area could easily support a modest-sized park. EDIT: And hey, the Grizzlies are having a pretty good season! But we definitely don't need another NBA team that close. -
It's time once again for Coaster101's annual Attraction Awards! The Attraction Awards is, put simply, an informal polling where you are asked to nominate and then vote for your favorite parks and coasters in various categories. This year, the categories are as follows: 1. Most Anticipated 2011 U.S. Coaster Only new coasters please. Coasters that are being relocated will not be included in this category. 2. Most Anticipated 2011 International Coaster As stated above, only new coasters will be included in this category. 3. Most Missed Coaster of the Past Decade Only coasters that closed after 2000 will be included in this category. Coasters that have reopened at another park will not be included in this category. Coasters that are still standing but not operating will be included in this category. 4. Most Deserving of the “Rocky Mountain” Treatment Which wooden coasters are incredibly rough and deserve the same Rocky Mountain treatment that Texas Giant is receiving? 5. Most Efficient Operations Which park consistently has efficient staff, not only at the rides but at the eateries, parking booths, etc. 6. Best Use of Social Media Which park has best utilized social media to connect with fans and bring them up-to-date information? You can nominate by posting here or by using the nomination form. Multiple nominations for each category are accepted. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, March 18, 2011. The top ten nominations from each category will be posted in a poll which will open on Monday, March 21, 2011.

2007 Offseason Update It's been quite a while, hasn't it? College has proven to be a lot more challenging than high school, but I think I'm handling it well. It's February and the park is rumored to make an announcement regarding this upcoming season within the week. I'm not getting my hopes up. With the turmoil the company as a whole has been experiencing lately, I don't expect anything of any real value this season. But we'll see. I came across a few interesting pictures of the park from way back in the 70s: Here you can see the park's old mine train coaster, Carolina Calamity. It's a shame I never got to ride... it seemed like a fun little coaster. This is the picture that got me. It's unbelievable how much the park has changed in the past 25+ years. No Gotham City Backlot, no Undertaker, no Batman, no nothing! The park sure has come a long way since its humble beginning. I'll be back home soon to bring you updates. Stay tuned! Signing off, Tommy

2006 24th Season My Last Day at the Park, Part II It sucks to say goodbye, but at least I know that I'll be back soon. This park has done a lot for me throughout my entire childhood. The front entrance has remained virtually unchanged since the park reopened after Hugo. Maybe it's a sign of me getting older, but I love people-watching. Perhaps because I can see the younger ones experiencing the park as I did back when I was their age. Batman was my first looping coaster. I was quite terrified the first time! Now it's one of my favorites. But Superman will always hold the top spot on my list. Bugs Bunny National Park was, in my opinion, one of the best things to happen to the park since Superman. With much regret I headed to my car and drove away from the park. Seeing Superman's lifthill fade into the horizon was heartbreaking to say the least. I just pray that I can someday move back to Charleston and hopefully work at the park. I know it's far-fetched but what a job that would be! Thank you all so much for the support over the past several years. I will see you all in the late spring with an update from the park. I'm already counting down the days. Six Flags South Carolina returns for the five final seasons on March 15, 2011.

I made a music video. You may or may not find it funny.

I've been dabbling in the world of comedy and I've made a music video. Please watch and tell me what you think: Clearly it's not a serious video and shouldn't be taken as such! - CD5 2006 24th Season My Last Day at the Park, Part I I leave for school tomorrow. What better way to spend my last day in Charleston than at Six Flags. Since 2000, I have been bringing you all updates from this incredible amusement park. It will be hard to leave my friends and family, but it will also be hard to not have access to this park. Worry not, though, as I will continue to make trips to Charleston to visit. I will continue to bring you updates from the park. The updates will just be less frequent. I'll miss driving up to the park and seeing this view. Although it's changed since 2000, parts of the park will likely remain the same forever. I remember taking the tram to the entrance as a young child and being mesmerized by the giant rides. They don't seem as big today, but Rebellion still gets me. Since today is a mid-August weekday, I knew the park wouldnt' be crowded. I successfully rode every single attraction at the park, sans Chaos and Firebomb (I'll let you guess why). Green Falcon remains my one of my top three favorite rides at the park. I hope it's just as fun when I return. I even hopped aboard RoadRunner. If it's one thing the park needs badly, it's another family coaster. No lines at Undertaker equals several rides. "Beautiful" isn't one of the first things that comes to many people's minds when they think about a Six Flags park, but I have to say this has to be one of the exceptions. Perhaps it's a leftover from the mindset of the Charleston Gardens management, but I think landscaping has always been a priority here. On the other side of the park I took a spin on V2, which is another one of my favorites. Luckily it was open today! I'll have Part II tomorrow. Signing off, Tommy

2006 24th Season Firebomb...or Batman? That's an easy decision! I usually forget that Gotham City Crime Wave is back here! Another ride that's always closed is Chaos. I heard from a "source" that the ride will likely be removed within a year or two. I'll see you soon! I only have two weeks left in Charleston! Signing off, Tommy

2006 24th Season I spent the entire day at the park but didn't spend the entire day taking pictures. I went with a group of friends and got so caught up that I forgot to take that many pictures. The park surprisingly wasn't that crowded today! That meant lots of rides on all of the coasters. Although it's not the same as when Vulture stood over Thunder River, Green Falcon works. Firebomb! Have a great day! Signing off, Tommy

2006 24th Season I apologize for the sporadic updates. I leave for school in only a few months and have been very busy making all the necessary preparations. There hasn't been much news that pertains to SFSC specifically, except that it WAS NOT on the list of parks up for sale. I see that as a good thing, but some have differing thoughts. Only a few more weeks of being able to see this when I choose to. V2 (operating) is always a good thing to see when you arrive at the park. Is it just me, or is Undertaker overdue for a new coat of paint? At least Derecho got a new coat for its 30th anniversary! Signing off, Tommy

Thanks guys! I always want to improve upon previous projects. 2006 24th Season The summer season at Six Flags South Carolina is moving along steadily despite the problems facing Six Flags as a whole. Rumors are swirling about which parks will be put up for sale and Six Flags South Carolina is not out of the question. I don't quite understand how one of the seemingly better properties would be put up for sale so let's hope that it's only a rumor. I suppose time will tell. Firebomb was closed for two as soon as I got to the park. This is getting old! I arrived late in the afternoon so I didn't feel like sticking around to get a ride in. I just now noticed the extra support on V2 that was added during the offseason. A similar support was added at the Six Flags Great America V2. This ride's quickly getting on my bad list. 2006 Well guys, I would like to announce that I will be attending the University of Memphis this fall seeking a degree in Hospitality and Resort Management. Yes, that does mean that I will not be able to bring you guys as frequent updates as I can. I am incredibly excited and can't wait to beging this next stage of my life. With that being said, here's today's update! I love Washout. I hope the park never removes it. Green Falcon's line was short for a Saturday. I took advantage of that! Firebomb had a late opening. It didn't open until early afternoon. Along with the more vibrant paint job, they've also spruced up Derecho's entrance area a bit. And the coaster is a bit smoother this season! Signing off, Tommy

2006 28th Season Well this was the first time since middle school that I've missed opening day, but I suppose taking the SAT is a valid excuse. Anyhow, I am extremely impressed with Firebomb. It's an experience like no other, and I mean that! This is quite a different view! The ride reverses its direction about halfway the cycle. The ride is definitely not repetitive! I've seen alot more ads around the park lately. That's corporate Six Flags for ya! I'll have more pictures tomorrow. Signing off, Tommy

2005 27th Season Today's the last day of the season. Astroworld's closure has been announced, the status of SFNO is unknown, and even our own Fright Fest has been cancelled, the season cut two weeks short. Needless to say, things are not looking good for the Six Flags chain. However, the rumors of a new ride for 2011 still persist. I guess we shall see! This is likely where the new ride will be placed. The Magic Carpet's old platform has been removed. Batman is due to get a new coat of paint. Undertaker + Sunset = Win This might be my favorite part of Undertaker... as long as the brakes are turned off. My attempt at an artistic photo. Meh. It's been a great season - I'll see you in the spring! Signing off, Tommy

2005 27th Season It's August. It's hot. Enough said. On a rather somber note, please keep the folks in New Orleans in your thoughts. Hurricane Katrina will soon make landfall and it's not looking good at all for the city. Six Flags New Orleans is also at risk - the folks from the Charleston Gardens days know all too well what a hurricane can do to an amusement park. Hopefully the storm will pass the city. Undertaker's... underside. Can you spot Green Falcon? I heard a rumor that Gotham City Backlot will someday be extended to where SkyCoaster once was. We'll see... I am currently in love with the forces of this coaster. It's a love/hate relationship. Green Falcon says good night. Signing off, Tommy

2005 27th Season There are rumors floating around that next year's new flat ride will be BIG. I've heard that it will be similar to another flatride installed at another Six Flags property recently... hmm. I got to Green Falcon before the queue could fill up. A flying coaster's lift hill is very interesting and somewhat terrifying - I always feel as if I'm about to fall out! I love the coaster's entrance. Have a great day! Signing off, Tommy

2005 27th Season My summer job at a restaurant that will remain unnamed has kept me from going to the park as often, but today I did get the chance to stop by for a couple hours. Green Falcon was voted the best coaster in the Carolinas by some newspaper. Although I love the coaster, I don't know about that it's the best. I'm not sure how this is a Kodak moment... I see you, Undertaker. Monday's aren't too crowded. I haven't heard anything more about next year, but I'll keep my ears open! Signing off, Tommy

2005 27th Season I'm enjoying being off from school for the summer. Next year is my senior year - it's hard to believe it. It seems like just yesterday I was starting middle school and the SFSC website! Enough of memory lane, though! I haven't heard much about next year. Six Flags is experiencing some financial troubles. We'll see. I think a flat ride would suffice! Undertaker's layout is very compact. Batman and V2, now the only inverted coasters at the park (I don't count Falcon). R.I.P. Vulture! Have a great day! Signing off, Tommy

Hey guys, I need your help! Please post the titles of any songs that remind you of time at an amusement park. I prefer upbeat music from any time period after the 1960's. It would be greatly appreciated! 2005 27th Season Today was the first day of first full week operations this summer. I got to the park an hour before it opened. Why? I don't know. Green Falcon's line wasn't bad. But I'm not sure why the ride ops weren't sending out full trains. I see you peaking out from the tree line, Green Falcon! I only stayed at the park for a few hours but I got rides on every coaster except this one. Have a great rest of the day! Signing off, Tommy

2005 27th Season I went to the park today to get a couple spins on Green Falcon. It's quite an addictive ride. And since it was a early Sunday afternoon, the lines weren't too long. It's very cool to see Green Falcon from the main parking lot. The ride doesn't look as tall from this angle. They look very happy! The pretzel loop is incredibly intense... but I love it. I headed out pretty early in the evening. It was a short day at the park! Signing off, Tommy

They're the same colors as Cheetah. They're bold. Green hasn't yet been used at the park. I didn't want a blue, red, black, orange, or yellow coaster. Green and purpble were really my only two options. 2005 27th Season We're a couple of weeks into the season and the park is reporting record opening weekend attendance! This is, of course, most likely due to Green Falcon's opening. The park has done a great job marketing the new ride. Billboards are popping up around town and commercials are running like crazy. Good morning, Six Flags South Carolina! The crowds were still impressive today. Batman was closed for the morning but reopened in the afternoon. It was a short visit today. I didn't feel like waiting two hours for a ride on Green Falcon. Hopefully they'll be able to speed up the loading/unloading process. That takes quite a while. Signing off, Tommy
