  1. ^ That looks really nice! I don't mind at all. 2005 27th Season Below are a few more pictures from opening day. People seem to really love Green Falcon! This is my sad attempt at an artistic photo. I got a ride on Scooby Doo. I haven't ridden it in a while! Several of the midway games at the park have been renovated. They look really nice. Okay, one last artistic shot! Signing off, Tommy!
  2. Thanks for the replies! I'm glad you guys like Green Falcon! 2005 27th Season Today is opening day! Green Falcon is AMAZING! The flying sensation is totally different from what I imagined it being like. The pretzel loop inversion has to be one of the most intense experiences I've ever had on a rollercoaster. Batman's flatspins don't stand a chance against this massive twisted loop. The skyline has changed, in more ways than one! Skycoaster was mysteriously removed during the offseason. I didn't even know about it. Apparently there was a dispute between the park and the city. I'll try to find out more. This area of the park is officially a dead zone. I'm surprised it's even open to the public. This whole thing is very strange. Now onto Green Falcon! The ride's first drop scrapes the side of the hill. I heard some of Vulture's footers were reused for Green Falcon. I'm glad the park recycles! The ride's actual entrance is further down the path. Riders now exit through Vulture's old entrance into a giftshop. I'll have more photos tomorrow! Signing off, Tommy
  3. 2005 Announcement GREEN FALCON wraps around its own signature pretzel loop inversion. The coaster will invert a total of three times. GREEN FALCON at SIX FLAGS SOUTH CAROLINA GREEN FALCON at SIX FLAGS SOUTH CAROLINA
  4. 2004 26th Season The park is expected to make an announcement any day now. I'm dying of anticipation! This is all that remains of Vulture. It's sad. Rebellion was closed today. The park really needs to focus on ride reliablity. Lately a lot of the park's major attractions have been closed for entire days. Tidal Wave's line fills up fast... especially after it's been closed all morning. Superman was open all day! Unfortunately, a thunderstorm put a damper on my last day at the park this season. The park is very eerie when the rain comes. Everything stops operating. It's very quiet. After an hour of downpours and lightning, I gave up hope that the rides would reopen. Luckily, though, on my way out I got to meet "Mr. Six," the new Six Flags mascot that was introduced this year. I'll see you next season! Signing off, Tommy
  5. 2004 26th Season We're nearing the end of the season and you know what that means - an announcement should take place very soon! It's amazing how little we know about next year's attraction. Heck, we don't even know if it will be a coaster! The park has done an excellent job at keeping this project under wraps. I know a lot of people, including myself, are very excited about what next year brings! Superman was running exceptionally efficiently today. That's a good crew of ride ops for ya! Derecho is down for a short rehab. This is a good thing! The Great Swings is a fun ride to watch. I'm not too keen on spinning. Nothing but Superman and sky... and maybe a little bit of Derecho. I don't like heights, but I love the adrenaline No line at Thunder River? Count me in! Signing off, Tommy
  6. 2004 26th Season I haven't seen any new signs outside of the old Vulture site, but I'll keep a lookout! Airtime. Superman has lots of it. "The Tree of Life" as I've heard it called recently. The line for Scooby Doo is always too long. Have a great day! Signing off, Tommy
  7. 2004 26th Season "The Biggest. The Baddest. The Best." That's the newest sign that's been posted outside Vulture's old station. I love this view for some reason. Character Cafe had a one hour wait today. There's a new magic show in the main street theater. Can't go wrong with some bumper cars! Signing off, Tommy
  8. Thanks for the replies! I'm glad there's still interest in this park after all this time! 2004 26th Season I saw a new sign today: "It's fast. It's tall. Get ready." Hmm... Tidal Wave was closed today, Thunder River and Deer Park Plunge both had considerably longer lines throughout the day. That's not acceptable for hot summer days such as today! I like this view of the park. I've heard that the park is considering adding a nighttime parade. That would be an excellent way to keep guests at the park longer. Of course, nighttime rides on Derecho will do it for me. Signing off, Tommy
  9. 2004 26th Season Vulture continues to come down. However, a saw a sign posted outside the construction fence that read: "What flies towards the sky and dives down to the ground?" Hmm... This view is quiet different now. Tree Swings is a fun ride, especially if you ride backwards. I got SOAKED on Thunder River. There's still alot standing. This little piece of a support was never repainted! Signing off, Tommy
  10. This is great news! I know my body will thank me next time I ride Gwazi.
  11. 2004 26th Season I had the privilege of meeting with the park's new manager, Landon Mitchell. He's a young guy and seems to have a great vision for the park. It should be interesting to see what he can do in the coming years. Operations at the park have been so-so over the last couple of seasons. Hopefully he can turn that around! Also, I was told by a "source" the reason why Vulture was not removed during the off-season. The coaster came very close to receiving a makeover and reopening with new floorless trains. The ride would have received a new name, dark red / black paint job, and trains that are similar to those found on Vekoma family inverted coasters. However, it was decided that this new Vulture wouldn't be as marketable with floorless coaster, since Batman, V2, and Undertaker all feature "floorless" trains. So the ride will be scrapped and a different attraction will open in its place. Now as far as what kind of attraction will take Vulture's place... no one knows. I have heard that Vulture's station will be reused, but even that is unconfirmed. I've heard everything from a wooden terrain coaster to a B&M standup coaster. It's a large plot of land, I'm sure it's going to be big. You can see an old POV of Vulture in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=486-SYAMGCY This is a sad sight to see. This was one of my favorite views of the ride. Deer Park Plunge's line was short which was surprising for such a hot day. Tidal Wave's line, however, was 90 minutes long. That's Six Flags for ya! Signing off, Tommy
  12. 2004 26th Season It's been a week since the park opened and I thought I'd go see how far along they've come with Vulture's removal. Rebellion was closed on opening day, but I'm happy to report that it is now open. I see a few pieces of track have been removed. Management has requested that no deconstruction work occur when the park is open. They have a long way to go, though. Kids love Tree Swings! This is a very quiet area of the park when it's not crowded. Signing off, Tommy
  13. 2004 26th Season Welcome to Six Flags South Carolina's 26th Season! It's hard to believe that another year has come and gone. They seem to be flying by! This year's addition isn't a new coaster, but it does show that the park continues to make improvements to the overall guest experience. Bugs Bunny National Park has been a huge hit with the families and I'm sure that this addition will further the area's success. Here is the new entrance to Bugs Bunny National Park. This entrance is at the end of the Gotham City Backlot. There are now no dead ends at the park, except for the Skycoaster and Picnic Grove area. Through a friend that works at the park, I was able to go inside the Character Cafe before it opened for lunch. Costume characters will visit with guests as they dine. Larger parties are welcome! Sylvester's Spin, formerly Scrambler, now sports a black paint job in its new location. I was shocked to see that a large part of Vulture still remained. However, a green and yellow fence borders the ride's station and Scrambler's former area. Hmm... Signing off, Tommy
  14. 2004 Announcement The CHARACTER CAFE will be the biggest sit-down restaurant at Six Flags South Carolina when it opens in 2004. The new TREE SWINGS will be a great attraction for the younger ones.
  15. Although I've never been to SFMM, it did appear as if previous management was at least trying to improve guests' experience at the park. As Robb stated, hopefully this day was only a fluke. Perhaps once the summer season comes back around and the licensing changes are made and the new coaster "experiences" are installed, things will settle out.
  16. 2003 25th Season Vulture will be leaving us at the end of July. A sign appeared outside the sign that the ride will close on August 1st, 2003, which is only three weeks away. If you haven't been to the park recently - you only have a few more weeks to experience this classic coaster. I thought I'd dedicate the first part of this update to Vulture's history. Vulture opened in 1984 back when the park was known as Charleston Gardens Amusement Park. It drew alot of attention because many had never seen this style of coaster before. The ride's five four-seat carriages sped through the trees and down close to the banks of the lake below. The ride was repainted dark red when Six Flags purchased the park but in recent years has received little attention compared to other coasters at the park. The sign near Vulture's entrance says that the coaster is closing to make way for a new attraction. I've been told that Vulture's replacement will not open until 2005. Rather, in 2004, we will see a smaller addition that will connect the Gotham City Backlot with Bugs Bunny National Park. But nothing is confirmed yet. I suppose it will take some time to dismantle Vulture. Vulture will be greatly missed. 1984 - 2003 I'll see you next season. Signing off, Tommy
  17. 2003 25th Season I've heard that we could know as soon as tomorrow which attraction will be leaving us soon. My money is unfortunately on Vulture, but I guess we won't know for sure until then. Superman seems to be running really fast lately. I got several rides in today. I love airtime, coasters wouldn't be the same without it! Moving on... I guess it's time to head home! I spent a good portion of the day at the park which was great because I don't get to do that as much. I'm looking forward to seeing what next year brings!
  18. 2003 25th Season I heard from one of my "sources" today that the park will soon announce the closure of one of the major attractions at the park. He didn't say which one in particular, but I know one coaster that isn't out of the question: Vulture is the most likely. As unfortunate as it is, the ride has become more uncomfortable to ride each season, and I've heard that the ride's maintenance costs have gone through the roof. I guess we'll see soon enough. I rode Skycoaster again today! It wasn't as "breath-taking" but it was still very fun. I don't believe we have to worry about Undertaker leaving. Drop! Have a great day! Signing off, Tommy
  19. 2003 25th Season Today was somewhat a big news day, for the middle of the season at least. Joseph Reynolds announced his retirement at the end of the season. His time at the park dates back well before the park closed due to Hugo. He reclaimed his management position shortly after Six Flags bought the park. He plans on spending more time with his family, but will be assisting the new manager acclimate to the position. Also, it was announced that Indigo Plunge will now be known as Deer Park Plunge, an obvious sponsorship by the popular bottled water. No word on whether or not the ride will receive any retheming. Hello Undertaker! Bugs Bunny National Park was packed today (as was most of the park)! Have a great day! Signing off, Tommy
  20. These are all great ideas! I'll keep them in mind. 2003 25th Season We're progressing through this season quickly. It seems that way anyway. I sometimes forget Superman's second half... since it's not as obvious as the first half! It's just as great, though! Mainstreet is bustling as always! Undertaker never disappoints! Have a great day! Signing off, Tommy
  21. 2003 25th Season I DID IT! I rode Skycoaster and it was incredible! The rush as you're falling is something that you can't get on a coaster, not even Rebellion! If it wasn't $25 to ride, I'd ride it everytime I came to the park! Rollercoasters don't seem so scary anymore! The weather was great today, perfect for eating outdoors! The crowds were susprisingly moderate for a Saturday. I've heard that next year's addition will finally connect Bugs Bunny National Park with Gotham City Backlot. I wonder what it could be, though. We haven't had a big coaster since 2001's V2! What a day! Signing off, Tommy
  22. ^ I'm glad you had a good time! 2003 25th Season I got the chance to run by the park late this afternoon. My summer job is preventing me from going to the park as often as I was used to, but I still plan on bringing you guys frequent updates! V2 had a lengthy line everytime I've been to the park this season. The new ride crew must be slow in learning the ropes! On the other hand, Undertaker's line was abnormally short this afternoon. Hey, more rides for me! Moving on... Batman was once the biggest steel coaster at the park... what's happened? Thanks for reading. Signing off, Tommy
  23. I believe the closing of Geauga Lake and Astroworld are both contenders, but only because I don't believe the decision to close either park was well thought out. Hard Rock Park could easily be the biggest failure, if not the double-fail that was Freestyle Music Park.
  24. 2003 25th Season Skycoaster seems to be a hit, with those who are brave enough to ride it. I keep telling myself that I'll conquer the attraction next time I go to the park, but I always manage to keep myself from going near the ride. Something about falling like that gives me the chills! But hopefully I'll get the courage by the end of the season. (The $25 charge is scary, too!) I love seeing Superman from Bugs Bunny National Park. Picnic Grove The line for Skycoaster was about 30 minutes long when I went over in that direction. At one point today both Batman and V2 were down. Although they both reopened within about an hour. No word on why either rides closed. I'll tackle you someday! Signing off, Tommy
  25. ^ Yes Vulture is still standing and operating.
