  1. 2001 23rd Season The park was a bit more crowded today since many students are out of school for Spring Break this week. It's still early in the day. Vertical Velocity opened about an hour late this morning, and I was lucky enough to be on one of the first trains out. It's fun to watch the coaster from across the lake. This part is very intense depending on where you're sitting. Signing off, Tommy
  2. 2001 23rd Season I went by the park late by this afternoon to get a few rides in. The lines weren't bad so I was in and out within a couple of hours. Little crowds equals lots of rides without waiting! I only waited about five minutes for Batman, but only because they were running one train. Vulture was next - this ride either needs a rehab or a replacement! I have no idea what would replace it, though. And to end the day, a soaking ride on Thunder River! Signing off, Tommy
  3. What applicable knowledge I've learned from Triassic Attack:
  4. Hey guys! Today is Thanksgiving (for the U.S. folks) and I just wanted to thank you guys for the continued support that you all give me. I may not respond to each of your posts individually, but I do take each comment to heart! I get the most when I read your responses, positive and negative. The feedback means the world to me. Thank you! I'm out of town and my Internet connection is spotty at best, but regular SFSC updates will return on Saturday.
  5. I'm thankful for the replica of the Zippin Pippin that is being built in Wisconsin!
  6. 2001 23rd Season Vertical Velocity is a huge hit! Although the lines for the ride might be long, the wait is totally worth it! The airtime on this ride is insane! The speed the train takes as it's flying through the station is crazy. The ride ops always play a little game with the riders awaiting to be launched. They're already pretty anxious! I stayed at the park nearly all day. My sunburned face will thank me later! Nevertheless, it was a great day! Signing off, Tommy
  7. 2001 23rd Season I can't believe opening day is already here! Park officials were reportedly worried whether or not Vertical Velocity would be ready for guests, but luckily for us the ride is open! It's hard to miss the ride's two vertical towers emerging from the tree line. Getting to the park extra early on opening day is always a good idea! I see V2! The ride's station stands where RoadRunner's station once stood. The ride experience is like nothing I've ever experienced before. The launch is so powerful that it really takes your breath away. I've heard a lot of people claim that the ride would be just like Viper, but it's so much better. The weightlessness experienced at the top of the reverse spike is incredible. I give V2 two thumbs up! Obligatory Undertaker shot! The ride looks beautiful at night. I'm sure I'll be back several times this season! Signing off, Tommy
  8. 2001 Announcement Vertical Velocity will stand on the land once occupied by the park's RoadRunner coaster. The park's skyline will change drastically yet again in 2001. Click above to see a larger image.
  9. 2000 22nd Season I've got great news! Next year's addition will be announced TOMORROW! From looking around the internet a little while today, it seems that most people believe that 2001 will bring a new coaster. The only question is: What kind will it be? They've got a good plot of land to work with. There is no sign of RoadRunner remaining. I was told that some of the ride's themeing will be dispersed and reused at other Six Flags parks. Here's one last shot of Undertaker! Signing off, Tommy
  10. 2000 22nd Season I got a few sad shots from the past week. Sadly, RoadRunner has met its end. The pieces were sold for scrap metal. It's a sad day at Six Flags South Carolina. Signing off, Tommy
  11. 2000 22nd Season We're past the summer's halfway point and there's some (de)construction taking place! RoadRunner has officially closed. The ride first opened in 1988 as Millipede but was renamed and repainted when the park reopened under Six Flags' ownership. Still no word on what will replace the ride, though. Now the park is without any family coaster - that's a little strange for a park of this size. In other news, Undertaker isn't going anywhere! I think we can go a few years without losing any more rides. Perhaps next year's new addition will be another family coaster - who knows at this point. We should know more about next year within a few weeks! Signing off, Tommy
  12. It's not bad, but you could really use a little custom scenery here and there. I think that would really help the park a lot.
  13. 2000 22nd Season Hello all! Today is a new day and Six Flags South Carolina is open once again. I got to the park extra early to take advantage of the shorter lines! The Great Swings I was surprised -- the park wasn't as crowded today as I originally thought it would be. I'll leave you today with a shot of Undertaker! Signing off, Tommy
  14. Reading all this speculation really makes my day. You guys are awesome.
  15. 2000 22nd Season I went to the park today and grabbed a few photos. There isn't much going on as far as next season goes. There are a few whispers around the park, though. Some say the new attraction will be some kind of giant flat ride, where others are leaning more towards another coaster. Only time will tell, I suppose. I think it's neat that the Superman queue features tons of cool displays to look at while you wait. Unfortunately, I heard today from a guy at the Greenway Cafe that Vulture's days are numbered. The ride is showing its age. Scooby Doo is always a great ride when it's hot outside. Rebellion's fiery logo matches today's heat! Signing off, Tommy
  16. 2000 22nd Season I promise, these are the last of the Superman photos for a while! The ride goes through a lot of twists and turns before all is said and done. But there are also several airtime hills as well! The ride features three helices, not including the giant banked loop. Here's a good shot of the ride's finale. It's over! I heard that something BIG is coming to the park. It will replace RoadRunner. I'm going to try and dig up some more info! Signing off, Tommy
  17. 2000 22nd Season Here are a few more photos from my trip to the park yesterday: You can easily see Superman from Vulture's lift hill. As well as the coaster's huge overbanked turn. It packs quite a punch! The amoung of air that you get on this ride is insane. From above it's easier to see the banked loop. Floater air! Signing off, Tommy
  18. 2000 22nd Season With schools getting out for the summer, the park is becoming more packed each day! The lines are long and the weather is hot - summer has arrived! Word of advice: Run to Superman as soon as the park opens. Superman's line fills up fast! The park has only been open 15 minutes and the line's already getting long. Superman: Ride of Steel's station. Here is the station as seen from the bridge over Swan Lake. Everyone is a little anxious before the train departs. The climb up the 21-story lifthill is a bit nerve-wracking. But it's all worth it! Signing off, Tommy
  19. 2000 22nd Season Hello all! The weather is warming up and it's a great time to go to Six Flags! I spent the day at the park today and brought some photos back: Here you can see the general area of Superman's station. The coaster is about 210 feet tall. It towers over the rest of the park. I stayed late at the park today to get some more rides in as the lines had died down. It was a great day! Signing off, Tommy
  20. 2000 22nd Season Here are some more pictures from opening day: Let's not forget about Undertaker! The no floor factor is pretty cool. Batman's still one of the best rides at the park. RoadRunner will be closing at the end of July. No one really knows why, either. Derecho has been very rougher than last year. It was a great day! See ya again soon, Six Flags! Signing off, Tommy
  21. 2000 22nd Season Six Flags is entering the new millenium! The park opened today and of course I was there to check it all out! I got to the park two hours before it opened. I'm a coaster enthusiast, why else? Let's skip Undertaker, we've got bigger rides to get on! See ya later, Batman! Here is the entrance to Superman: Ride of Steel! The ride was INSANE! I've been on 94 coasters in total, but I can say with confidence that Superman takes the number one spot. The first drop is crazy and the next large hill gives you alot of airtime. The twists and turns of the second section pack some intense forces. I'll have more thoughts on Superman tomorrow! It's been a long day! Signing off, Tommy
  22. 2000 22nd Season Hello! Six Flags opens tomorrow but here are some more photos from the off-season. I got a special preview of the ride testing last week. The ride looks really fast! The large sideways turn is right by the new main entranceway drive to the park. That hill looks airtime-filled! Here you can see most of the last part of the ride. Here's the station! I can't believe the park opens tomorrow! I can't wait to ride S:ROS! Signing off, Tommy
  23. 2000 22nd Season Hello! My name is Tommy Powers! I'm 13 years old and I'm from Charleston and I am a huge fan of Six Flags South Carolina!! I just got a GeoCities webpage and I'll be taking pictures of Six Flags South Carolina so that you can see them on line. After Six Flags closed for the season, lots of work began in the dirt. The entrance will go here. Later, coaster track arrived. It seems like the coaster was up in a few weeks! The coaster began testing in March! The new Six Flags Parkway that was built next to the park gave me great photos. Those are big drops! I am the most excited about the first drop into a tunnel! The park opens in a few days, but I'll have some more "behind the scenes" photos tomorrow! Signing Off, Tommy
  24. 2000 Announcement SUPERMAN: RIDE OF STEEL stands over 200 feet tall. The first drop will take riders through an underground tunnel. The second half of the ride will utilize the park's hilly terrain. The ride will feature six airtime hills. SUPERMAN: RIDE OF STEEL opens in May of 200!
