  1. I went to the park about 5 years ago before I really went on roller coasters and I must admit this park needs one more mid level ride. Something like thunderbolt but not that old because that scares kids off. If the cyclone can't be fixed it should get replaced with a plug n' play and then have a mid level maybe a launcher like italian job somewhere? I did really like the park but it just seemed to be overly crowded. Plus slc's and boomerangs should be retired from every major park like six flags, they can do better than that just my 2 cents
  2. good to know about that new pov. I'll be in western PA for college the next five years so I'm hoping they finish that ride soon to round out their collection. I'm hoping to make it down there soon
  3. Did they mention anything about flying turns progress?
  4. The day the announce this ride is the day my family decided to head down for the first time in years. I'm upset that I will be missing the ride (for now) but I will do my best to get pictures of the progress. Look for them sometime after the 21st !
  5. Nitro cranks through people so no matter the crowds the line is never that long. El toro seems to go through pretty fast too, but the line can get long. It really all depends on the day though. This year Green Lantern has been sucking most of the people in early so if you want shorter lines go to those rides early while everyone else is waiting for Green Lantern
  6. I forgot about Harry Potter, that's definitely a game changer. But things like the wing walker and blue fire, eh been done before, slightly differently but still been done before. I'm saying more overall than in just huge colossal roller coasters. No new ways of riding roller coasters really. Nineties and very early 00's brought about inverted, floorless (not that big of a deal but still), flying, 4d, and launched coasters. Since then I think we've gotten verticle lift and wing riders in a 9-10 year period. Dont get me wrong I loved farenheight and the eurofighters look cool, but they aren't major innovations and the wingrider seems like a fad to me (I'll probably be wrong and look like a jack*** but thats how i feel right now)
  7. That is true, but I went to Great Adventure this year and was gravely dissapointed from years past. The roller coasters were great, but the whole thing kinda felt like a giant fair and not something that I would be willing to travel and pay for more than once every couple of years. I love rides roller coasters, etc. but I just feel like parks are emptier and there are few rides that I get excited just to watch because they are so new/innovative/impressive
  8. I'm not sure if this is just my opinion, but I feel that theme parks are struggling less because of the economy and more because of the lack of innovation. The earliest stuff I remember is from the late late nineties. I feel like nearly each one of those major additions made me go "wow!" The last time I felt that about any ride was Kingda Ka (because I had never heard of top thrill dragster at the time). I don't know if it's just because I've been getting older, but does anyone else feel the same way like there are far fewer innovative/wow! attractions being added? Why I say this is while reading a description of the old "Right Stuf" simulator at Six Flags GADV I was blown away. That ride seems like it was one of those wow factor rides that really gives you an experience you cant get at a local fair or arcade. Where are those rides today?
  9. After looking at the attendance numbers from last year, and guessing 4 people per car parking is the average, just by raising the price 3 dollars (which really isnt too horrible when you think 3 dollars) six flags will be making an extra two million this year if attendance stays the same. My guess is that it will be up due to all of the promoting and cross promoting with the movie for Green Lantern. Two million dollars could pay for a new flat ride, or pay for more employees. The plain fact is, it is masively expensive to run a park the size of GADV and roller coasters are probably the most expensive rides to run and maintain. This park has 13 of them. Hopefully it is to raise more money for future additions! The park has an outstanding coaster lineup but little else to keep me in the park and "buying stuff".
  10. I'm impressed with my hope waterpark Splish Splash, only opened from June to August and they raked in 500,000 people thats pretty incredible for that little park!
  11. Sorry didn't realize online was up to 17 when i went the online pass got you in for 12 it think. Definitely wasn't 17. My thinking is, by raising prices up 3 dollars it must mean they are raising money to pay for big additions for next season. It's only logical right?
  12. When I was there last week even when filled to the sign it always took less time to get on the ride. I think it has to do with the fact that people would rather be told an hour and wait forty five minutes then be told forty five and wait an hour. It's like when you are out late at night and you tell your mom you'll be home in an hour when you will get there in 30 mins without traffic. In case you do hit traffic you dont want to show up after curfew and anger your mom. Always ends up in earlier curfew right?
  13. you've suggested removing rolling thunder in your last two posts... What are your true feelings on rolling thunder?
  14. i've never been on it but no love for boulder dash?
  15. wow glad everyone is alright, I can't see this ride opening again isn't it the second accident its had?
  16. Trip Report!: So Today was a very up and down day at the park. All in all it ended up great. We got to the park just after opening and NONE of the roller coasters were open. It took them until 11:00, an hour after opening to open Green Lantern, Superman, El Toro, Bizarro and Kingda Ka. Nitro and Batman and the other rides on that side of the park may have been open but I wanted to make sure I got on Green Lantern minimal wait. So the finally opened the ride and I must say it is now my third favorite ride at the park. I felt like my head was bouncing off the restraints a lot though is this normal for a stand up roller coaster? I've never been on one before today. Anyway I noticed a construction bucket and scrap chain link fence just left right next to the que and it wasn't theming. Lazy landscaping and disposal mistakes would be a common occurance throughout the day. So after that, we went over to El Toro with a minimum wait. The park was fairly empty and at the beginning of the day EVERYONE was over at Green Lantern and Superman. El Toro was running fine no rattle whatsoever anywhere. It was definitely a running more like a wood coaster than opening year but by no means rough. Still the best ride in the park and the last row IMO is that much better. Went on Bizarro and had to say I was very VERY disappointed. The ride was running rough, the operators were slow and one of the girls was standing against a wall with her arms crossed. Also the audio was out on every car and the auger was down and the sign at the entrance is still missing the quote from the back. Until today I didn't appreciate the audio I miss it now. If the audio was struggling last year why didn't they work on it in the offseason? Same with the auger which is sitting on the ground next to the ride. After this though the day really turned around. Wasnt feeling too great after two in a row on Bizarro so we got food and water. Then hit the bathroom which was SPOTLESS. As soon as I was done a janitor went in and cleaned the stall it was CRAZY and then the same thing happened again a few hours later. We hit Nitro (running great, needs paint though) Batman (packs an amazing punch for a coaster as old as me!) and the Dark Knight. At Batman I noticed a lot of peeling paint (offseason maintenance seemed like it never happened at the park to be honest) and a lot of the theming looking run down. Ride needs about 6 hours of work and it would be back to it's old self, don't understand why that isn't possible. A lot of weeds. And right behind the fan, employees dumped garbage all on the floor and it's clearly visible. The dark knight I feel like has great theming, borderline Disney quality and after my first ride I thought if only the ride wasn't a wild mouse. It's not nearly as bad as people say it is though. Then the most amazing thing happened, Superman was not I repeat was not stacking AT ALL. I don't know how they were able to pull it off but the ride ops were cranking. I made sure to compliment the guy who was working hard and motivating everyone else. It was incredible. Afterwards we waited for Green Lantern and were cut in line 3 times. Then the ride went down and everyone who cut us left the line. Right after they left the ride started again (Karma's a B****). It was down for about 15 minutes and that was the only issue all day. I saw a Ka rollback and Rolling Thunder's left side got stuck 3 times in 20 minutes before they decided to shut it down. In the end I had a great day at the park but for some reason this year I noticed more than my last few visits that this park is LACKING big time. There is not one ride in the park for a 17 year old kid to go on and just chill besides the ferris wheel or log flume. Everything is about adrenaline inducing, blood pumping scream machines and I have a massive headache as I write this from not being able to pace myself. I think Busch Gardens has it right 5 or 6 coasters and then other stuff to do (although I like that they have more than 6 coasters the other stuff needs work). Great adventure is a great park with a lot of potential but the grandstand on the lake sits dormant and when I talked about the old boat shows my friends (who aren't really enthusiasts) they said they would love to check that out. North Star is empty too and the Batman stunt arena is also empty. All 3 should have shows and 2 should be something that a kid my age could enjoy. Like the one in Disney with the cars and explosions and stunt drivers (I can't remember the name). Not exactly the same but something that is cool for kids my age, the chief market they advertise to. I could say many other things, but as long as they fill in underneath the coasters and work on their landscaping(Batman,Green Lantern) and theming issues(Batman,Bizarro), this could be an absolutely great park. I know it's long winded but I hope you liked my report. I had an amazingly fun day and did not get sunburned
  17. hahaha i went last year and everything was great rides were all smooth as butter, minimal stacking, no major problems so I'm expecting the same, hopefully it will be remotely close as everything i read seems horrible
  18. I feel like many people across a lot of forums are complaining about Great Adventure this year, has it really been that bad? I'm going on Friday and I'm afraid of what seems like all of the major rides running poorly, random closed paths and buildings and lazy/non-motivated ride ops. Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect?
  19. Just wondering was this posted recently or has that been up for a while and nobody noticed?
  20. Riding in the back, El Toro is starting to get pretty rough coming around the far turnaround after the 3rd hill. Feels like the connections between the track pieces are starting to sag a bit and it's getting bumpy. The rest of the ride is holding up fairly well, but that one big turn is bad. I rode El Toro back row last year 3 times when i went and did not notice this at all it was just pure to me
  21. I am soo soo soo so thankful for this! Last time I rode sidewinder I had a headache that lasted me all day and this was the second ride of the day! I don't understand why they dont put these on every Vekoma/Arrow creation! Screw costs I WANT SEXY TRAINS!!!!!
  22. Is revolution really getting new restraints??? If so will they be removing the breaks soon and returning this ride to it's glory days? The way Anton designed it to run?
  23. Honestly looking at Rattler is it even worth saving? They should just scrap it and start over with a new wooden coaster in that location like Magic Mountain did with Apocanator.
  24. It seems like they are finally addressing the Old Country area as Musik Express is being sold off, I wonder what the plans are?
