  1. Well, whatever they add in 2009, family or not, you can bet given the market that it will be something that will be highly marketable.
  2. Well even a medium sized woodie could still be considered a "family" ride, particularly if we're talking about a GCI. Look at Thunderhead or Kentucky Rumbler (more on the small side). My gut feeling tells me the 2009 ride will be steel and not very "eventful". But I hope I'm wrong!
  3. ^ I don't even care anymore. Superman is still a fun ride that families can ride together, and that to me is more important than the thrill factor. The park has plenty of other rides that fill that quota.
  4. Yeah they were VERY clear that this new ride would have no inversions, so the El LOCO is out, unless there is an inversion-less version, and what would be the point? Who knows what this could be. The "family coaster" label is throwing me.
  5. There are a number of spots that I saw during WCB that would fit a small to medium coaster. Remember most coasters go up and out of their central location anyway.
  6. I agree with those who say it's going to be a mouse ride, with a different theme than the one's currently being used. Probably something pretty elaborate. Either that or a Rumbler sized GCI. We'll see. I guess we'll get a few hints this weekend!
  7. ^ Um, I'm not sure where you are getting that idea from. They just spent $10 million on X2. While I doubt any sort of Intamin is coming to the park in 2009, I can see the park looking into a more "high end" family thrill ride for next year. How much are the Dark Knight coasters costing SF? I'm sure they're not cheap. Btw, who said anything about a $20 million dollar coaster? All the possibles mentioned in this thread range from $5-10 mill.
  8. Have we ruled out an Intamin coaster like Maverick, without inversions and on a smaller scale? Or Vekoma Motorbike? The possibilities are endless, so why do I feel like it's going to be a non-spinning mack mouse?
  9. Awesome Job Robb. Color me impressed. This is why TPR has is the most exciting "coaster" place to be on the net. X2 looks amazing, and I'm as excited by the looks of it as I would be of a brand new coaster. I'm also very excited by what I heard from Mr. Shapiro today. I'm glad he isn't completely abandoning the thrill ride aspect of the park, so much as fleshing out each aspect of what the park needs. I never thought I'd see the day I could once again begin to be proud to call Magic Mountain my home park.
  10. ^ LOL! I was waiting for the Intamin thing to come up. HAHA Anyway thanks Robb, that was great!
  11. Ok, can I just state how AWESOME it is to have Jay coming here himself to explain things?! It makes me really confident that my home park is finally in good hands with someone who is willing to take such a hands on approach. It's makes me excited to return to a park that I only visited ONCE in 2007!
  12. I will make a special effort to get to WCB again this year. Last year was pretty darn fun.
  13. Wow, both Psyclone and Flashback gone in 07. It's funny cause with both those rides gone, it only makes the state of Revolution and Colossus more obvious. The other two can no longer be used as scapegoats.
  14. ^ Yes, well I'm sure that's the plan. It could be a few years and that's fine. Airtime is great (and So-cal really needs it), but it's certainly not worth worrying about. On the other hand, there is no excuse to continue to ignore the park's flat ride and waterpark needs.
  15. You can say that again! As strange as it may sound, SFMM is well overdue for something with airtime and I suspect that "something" may lurk in the park's future. In the meantime, I'd like to see some new flats and waterpark attractions added soon.
  16. It's funny, before I became an enthusiast, I always assumed that being slightly rough was just part of the coaster experience. I rode Flashback, Viper or Windjammer (yes I liked WJ at one point) without ever complaining about roughness. I also thought I was the only one obsessed with coasters. I look back on that time with fondness because now like everyone else, I'm much more critical of rough rides.
  17. ^ Sorry, as much as I LOVE El Toro (and I LOVE it), it takes A LOT more than a great woodie to be a great park. Because after El Toro and Nitro, the rest of the park doesn't offer much in the way of good coasters IMO. However, I have notice a lot of improvement from SFGadv and as long as the park continues to improve, I can see myself visiting again. SFMM just needs a lot of work. Just about everything needs an upgrading in that park. The coasters are great (for the most part), but the park is so run down that it will take several years to become the world class thrill park we all know it can be.
  18. That height limit changes depending on where you build in the park.
  19. Wow, I guess I was right. That drop is definitely not 85 degrees. But it still looks like fun!
  20. ^ It's not suppose to. From what I hear, knott's wants to beef up their "family" rides. I'm sure this ride will be fun and a return to the type of rides the Knott's family used to add, but this isn't going to be a "seasoned" thrill seeker type ride by any means. Next, I really hope they redo the bumper cars. By far the worst of the worst!
  21. Actually, I believe it's the Zamperla "Motobike," very much family style. This will probably disappoint a few people, but it sounds like fun to me!
  22. Cedar Fair has announced it's plans for 2008, including new thrill ride for Knotts! http://www.cedarfair.com/ir/press_releases/index.cfm?current_root=15&mode=story&story_id=142
