  1. Wow. Does America really need to bubble wrap their rides so much that a ride that has been engineered and proven safe by a massive, experienced ride manufacturer in a developed part of the world needs to be neutered? Somebody needs to contact SFMM and ask if this is true, and if it IS true, somebody really needs to get angry at ASTM. This makes me angry. How would you select which nations are "developed" enough to produce reputable rides? How would you decide which manufacturers are "experienced" enough to be free of regulation? Do you need to be reminded that Intamin is responsible for the majority of the most highly publicized ride accidents in the United States over the past few decades? That doesn't even begin to touch on the rampant economic and political consequences of deregulating an international trade. Use your brain and think critically, it makes all the difference in the world in making people not sound like idiots. I'm just saying that I don't get why the US can't have a safe ride that runs in Europe perfectly fine. As for the accidents, I imagine that riding that Zacspin or Mega-Lite or whatever is still much safer than however you got to the park.

  3. I don't think the intensity was lowered because of a potential lawsuit, I think that was an SF/SFMM business decision. They felt that if the ride was more intense it would attract less riders. From my experiences I'd say they're correct. Although you and I would prefer it to be more intense, as coaster enthusiasts usually are we're in the minority. Every GP guest I've gone with on that ride already thinks it's way too intense as it is. Apparently the Swedes are just more generally appreciative of a more intense ride than most Americans appear to be. Don't they realize that a more painful ride will turn off riders? Apparently not. See X2 and Revolution. Revolution isn't particularly popular, is it? As for X2, I don't really know.
  4. I heard opening is Tuesday from CP Rundown.

  6. Magic Mountain has no need to neuter GL. Again, Americans are not made of butter. Just run it like Insane. I imagine that there won't be an intensity lawsuit. Does anybody disagree?
  7. Tim Burkhart said at WCB they purposely toned it down so it wasn't too intense for the average person and also to meet their operational needs (they had to keep a mechanic on site to rotate the cars upward). Basically boils down to the fact that American's are lawsuit happy wusses who the park realized would not be able to handle it. Which is funny, because their neutering the ride made it terrible anyways! That is literally the most stupid thing ever. It's not like Americans are made of butter or something! I do think manually turning the cars like Grona Lund allegedly does is a bit dangerous. Someone will end up being kicked if they do this improperly. think there needs to be handles for this purpose on the outer edge of the car. On another note, restoring GL would go perfectly with the YOLO audience. I could handle another YOLO ad campaign if it meant making this ride better. Oh but we are, we are made of squishy, lawsuit happy butter. We sue for everything and anything ..... because we can. It's a shame but it's true. The fact the park neutered this ride to 'tone it down' just proves that even more. I agree though, it's really stupid to buy and install a ride that was designed and meant to be intense only to immediately take that element away from it. There might be more to this but it still sucks they did that.... shame on you MM. I will not believe the lawsuit arguement until I see the intensity lawsuit happen in the US.
  8. El Toro is almost completely smooth except some shuffling in the bottom of the turnaround.
  9. How about this? The infamous Intamin halfpipe on a building in Japan, SBNO since 2005. http://rcdb.com/3383.htm
  10. Fixed! Half pipe has no cable.

  12. Were guests complaining??? I can only imagine, cause there sure are a lot if people on here who complain about it. Well Insane is alledgedly better and isn't super-neutered and balanced. SFMM should restore GL. And Revolution.
  13. According to a Cedar Fair construction account on Facebook, the white and orange tracks are for dive coasters in Europe and the yellow is going to China, leaving the teal unaccounted for.
  14. Why did SFMM neuter GL? And is Insane really THAT much better? The POVs I saw looked little more intense than Green Lantern. By the way, as said in the Scandi trip thread, never believe a ride op who says balancing is needed to ensure a train comes back right side up. On Insane, I was told that they just have two ops flip it back.
  15. Agreed. As a ride operator, I HATE the word "STUCK." I usually say "stuck" during normal times when people are aboard and "parked" during testing.
  16. What do you mean "uses the whole body weight to check the restriants"... do you mean stapling?
  17. Not sure if this should go in the main forum or here. I would like to know of of other forums like TPR. I love TPR, but variety is always good. Does anybody know other coaster forums of similar size to TPR? Or is TPR by far the largest?
  18. YES! The world needs more Gold Strikers. Maybe with a few less turns and more airtime hills, but Gold Striker manages to cram a bunch of airtime pops into a ride with few true airtime hills, so I guess that the verbatim hills are not always needed. Considering that Cedar Fair has been working with GCI at their smaller parks recently (CGA, WOF, Valleyfair), I think that a GCI is the most plausible idea.
  19. My thoughts exactly.
  20. Have seen that at Gröna Lund and Linnanmaki as well as experienced an upside down return at Gröna Lund. You need no maintenance crew to fix this - just two ride attendants who grab and turn the car manually... This is Six Flags we are taking about. They don't do things that make common sense. Well, they logically choose good, fun, intense rides. Intamin, RMC, etc. Then they turn around and never run all trains. (or worse yet, not even two trains), trim and neuter the ride (Green Lantern, Revolution), and fail to maintain the ride (Apocalypse.)
  21. I'm sorta cheering them on because I've never experienced a knockoff.
  22. Have seen that at Gröna Lund and Linnanmaki as well as experienced an upside down return at Gröna Lund. You need no maintenance crew to fix this - just two ride attendants who grab and turn the car manually... There should be a handle on the outer end to assist in rotating the car so there isn't a risk of being kicked by a rider. I really wish GL was as good as people say Insane is. There's no reason it can't be.
  23. While not horribly long, the SBNO period of Son of Beast was unusual and still long enough to be notable.
  24. You honestly shouldn't mock this guy. As weird as these plans are, I think that the 16-looper looks very interesting, and the Skyloop-style design is good too (and simple enough that Golden Horse shouldn't mess it up if they can produce heartlined track.
  25. Possessed- Dorney Park
