  1. Dude, there's so much to it that we're recycling stuff said in this thread and argued about a million times. Do you want me just to message you with my viewpoint to save an intercession? Sure. Sorry that I'm not up to date on this, i don't usually delve in to investigating GL's closing.
  2. There's so much to it that Six Flags buying Funtime alone isn't going to be the one domino that starts the whole chain of events. Why did the park collapse? It had existed next to CP for decades, through Gemini, Magnum, etc... and still survived. I don't get it. Why did the park suddenly fail? Was it CP's boom in coasters in the early 2000s?
  3. Do you think that if Six Flags never bought Geauga Lake and overexpanded, we would still have it?
  4. I'm pretty sure the 293 pages of this thread covered it pretty well, but I'll give you the cliff's notes: "Everyone go to Cedar Point." There. Done. I understand, but attendance was up in 2007. Did they just realize that it would just be easier and more economical to run one big park? I understand both sides. Its sorta obvious that everybody would go to CP.
  5. I'd love to see a tiny little park like Knoebels pop up, maybe with a rebuilt Dipper, but I know it 90% won't happen. We can dream though... I do wonder why Cedar Fair tore it down. Apparently attendance was up even with the shorter 2007 season. I know this is from the Geauga Lake Today "conspiracy theorists", but it does smell a little fishy. Note that I do NOT want anybody to boycott Cedar Fair, I have a Platinum Pass and go to Cedar Point regularly. By the way, my friend pointed out how ironic it was that Cedar Point received no rides from GL. Wasn't Planet Snoopy derived from GL's rides? I doubt CP would get practical clones of their rides new (half the rides in Planet Snoopy are clones of the rides in Camp Snoopy.)
  6. I really wish that somebody could redevelop GL into a park again. It would essentially be my second home park.
  7. So what is going on with Big Dipper? It hasn't been torn down, but I doubt that it is in very good shape. Why hasn't it been demolished? I'd be very sad if it was, but it seems inevitable.
  8. Cedar Fair used to build lots of Intamins (at least at Cedar Point.) However, the last Intamin attractions at a Cedar Fair park were put in in 2010 and both have had issues (I305 required severe trimming and then reprofiling, along with restraint replacement to help the ride, and Shoot the Rapids had boat issues that delayed opening, had to be slowed down, had a recent accident, and still can't run full boats.) Cedar Fair has been building mostly B&Ms since around this time. Although, CP itself could have had a deal with Intamin that ended, considering that most CF parks don't have a slew of super-Intamins. Of course, you have smaller parks wit hone super-Intamin, like KD or KBF. There are so many sides to this that it is hard to determine what is going on, but it seems like Cedar Fair is going with the tried and true guys. The GP loves new B&Ms just as much as new Intamins. B&Ms tend to have equivalent or higher capacity than Intamins. And finally, B&M coasters rarely (if ever) have to have drastic modifications done to them, while many Intamins have had to be modified. I'm not necessarily singing the praises of B&M here - I love Intamin coasters, they definitely can be more surprising, unique, and intense than newer B&Ms. But from the park's perspective, B&M is the better choice. However, B&M seems to be going into a new phase with their newer Asian B&Ms (or so I've heard) and Banshee, and with the rumors of a launched B&M coming to Holiday World, along with a possible new B&M giga for Carowinds (showing that the B&M giga was not a one-and-done thing), B&M seems to be slowly but surely pushing the envelope once again. I think that Cedar Fair's issues with Intamin started in 2010. That cable lift incident couldn't have helped, though.
  9. I always thought MiA would be a great park for an Intamin Mega-Lite. I know Cedar Fair is not very good friends with Intamin at the moment. But there are several reasons that the park could get an Intamin Mega-Lite. -The park is owned by a chain that has plenty of mone. -The park is quite profitable on its own, from what I've heard. (Although they might not build more if they don't think a new ride will boost their attendance, at least they might have the money to build something if the park needs a new ride.) -The park is perfectly sized for a moderately sized steel coaster - a Mega-Lite will be about the size of their current big coasters. Hopefully Intamin can get their "poop in a group" with reliability so Cedar Fair can partner up with them once again. I, for one, would love to have a Mega-Lite 3.5 hours north of me along with Maveshark 1.5 hours to the east!
  10. Out of curiosity, are El Toro's restraints more or less restrictive than a Gerstlauer RMC train a la NTAG? I can be jammed into El Toro (about 50/50 chance I need to be stapled.) Would I fit on NTAG? And what about RMC woodies? (Just putting this here because I'm comparing to Toro.)
  11. Ah. You would think Mount O would have better things to do than enforcing an arbitrary rule which I imagine was not manufacturer-mandated.
  12. Question about Cyclops - Is the "18 and up" rule enforced? And is the "airtime drop" good in the second-to-back car (third row from the back?) Finally, does the ride have seatbelts?
  13. My tent wasn't shaken if I remember correctly, but we were out by that time. I got lots of pics of the Screamsters.
  14. If that's true... I don't know what would make me angrier at New Jersey's government. I honestly hope this isn't true. Where did the underwater tunnel rumor come from, anyways?
  15. Intamin? No the company thay owns Terra Mítica I would go to Terra Mitica and ride stuff. I would be pretty cautious though. This seems like one park where I'd really want to hold on. I hope Terra Mitica hasn't modified the restraints on any other rides.
  16. In my experience, Wicked Twister usually does run in the rain. Tonight is CP's Coaster Campout, by the way. Now for a rant. I hate Wicked Twister. It has tight restraints that made it my first walk of shame. SFDK's V2 and Dorney's Possessed both use much looser restraints. The problem is the belt, or possibly the position of the buckle. Why Twister can't get away with this, I don't know. I see how the faster lateral twisting could be an issue, but the solution to this could be to raise the seat sides like Volcano's- Volcano-(Credit-RCDB) Twister-(Credit-http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=55609 Yet another thing I never got about Intamin inverts- why the side belts? I'd rather have a crotch belt - they feel safer, especially when you have something like Possessed where you are being held vertically facing down. (In fact, since that picture I posted was taken, hasn't Volcano gotten crotch belts?)
  17. I heard that Massachusetts and New Jersey ban T-bar restraints. Do any other states do this? And is there any proof that a PROPERLY OPERATED T-bar is any less safe than a normal lap bar?
  18. This happened earlier today - a Malaysian Airlines 777 was shot down over Ukraine en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 298 people on board. w http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/17/world/europe/ukraine-malaysia-airlines-crash/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
  19. The Fly at Canada's Wonderland wasn't too bad, but I rather would prefer the Vekomas over Volares. The Fly is CW's Wild Mouse. The Volare is Time Warp.
  20. Because California. That's why. Is this just a jab at Californians or a serious thing about California's government?
  21. You can hit a plane with a military rocket that isn't "carryable". The Buk launcher that Ukraine thinks that separatists used resembles a mini-tank and the rockets can fly up to 46,000 feet (Wikipedia), while MH17 was at about 32,000 feet.
  22. Is that only 2 airtime hills I spy>? Hopefully B&M can incorporate some negative g-forces into the turns a la GCI. I doubt it, though.
  23. Batman did seem fairly bumpy and just bad, at least compared with other B&M inverts (and maybe other Batmans.) Maybe it is just overshadowed by most other rides at the park.
