  1. ^I used to consider it a top-10 coaster, but now I feel it's a lot closer to average. Definitely not one I'd call a Maverick Lite as some do (Cheetah Hunt best fits that honor for me), but to each their own.
  2. Tougher than it seems! Winner Winner Chicken Dinner BGT: with a quadfecta of Montu, SheiKra, Cheetah Hunt, and Kumba (shout out to Scorpion too while we're at it) Others BGW: Apollo's Chariot, Griffon, Alpengeist Cedar Point: Maverick, Top Thrill Dragster, Millennium Force Hersheypark: Storm Runner, Lightning Racer, and marginally Fahrenheit Holiday World: duh (though I don't "get" Raven, I love Voyage and thought Legend was solid as well) Kings Dominion: Flight of Fear, Volcano, i305 Kings Island: The Beast (yes, really), Flight of Fear, Diamondback Silver Dollar City: Outlaw Run, Powder Keg, Wildfire Six Flags Fiesta Texas: iRat, Poltergeist, S:KC Six Flags Great Adventure: El Toro, Nitro, Kingda Ka does turn out to be mine, though I scoffed at others saying so! Six Flags Magic Mountain: X2, Tatsu, Full Throttle (Goliath finally being dethroned) Six Flags Over Texas: NTAG, Mr. Freeze, Batman (like Goliath, Titan finally loses out) Guilty Pleasures Dorney: Steel Force, Talon, Hydra Silverwood: Aftershock, Timber Terror, Tremors (the woodies are a given, but as of 2011 I still love Aftershock as well) Six Flags America: Wild One, Joker's Jinx, S:ROS
  3. Nice to see a New Hotness TR come back to life! This update got me thinking that I probably like i305 even more than my already-fond recollections of it. I'm decidedly in Maverick's camp but the two are probably more similar than I think.
  4. Totally agreed on both parts. I especially love the secluded Judge Roy Scream area. But while there's a lot of charm remaining, other parts are the more typical Six Flags cheaply commercial and cartoonish environment. While I still rank NTAG as a top-5 coaster, I've always had some mixed feelings in the back of my mind. I wonder if we'll be hearing more tempered views now that the massive hype has worn off and RMC continues showing that they're capable of even crazier designs. Then again, it could just be temperamental and need time to warm up. I've sometimes called it a steel El Toro, but it doesn't share the wooden coaster's relentless speed, slowing down noticeably during the final hops. At this point I believe I like Iron Rattler more, and Outlaw Run is simply in a league of its own. All in all, it's a shame this park has become so frustrating to visit.
  5. I just don't get how such a simple and almost modest-looking coaster can be so gorgeous as it takes shape. I do like the color scheme, so that helps make it even better.
  6. Yeah, that promo is beyond cheesy... Interesting idea, though, even though it sounds like it might not be all that original.
  7. Outlaw Run definitely has the power to undress.
  8. This, this one has to be my favorite guess. Needless to say I am just as intrigued and excited as anyone else! R&E's enthusiasm says a lot. And while I know that this is "Theme Park Review" and not "Roller Coaster Review," I've suspected from the beginning that it would be tough to justify so much hype for anything other than a coaster. Save for maybe a shockingly innovative dark ride.
  9. ^Agreed. I never bothered to notice it was tree-filled to begin with, but it could make for some nice areas of the park if they leave a good number standing.
  10. "Why Don't You Try Me" - Ry Cooder This track reminds me of, like, Springsteen.
  11. IIRC, the restraints are tighter than what you may be used to considering many drop tower OTSRs allow for a good deal of space. But they might be the best restraints yet for maximizing the views and feeling of freedom. I mean, I know OTSRs aren't exactly blocking a lot on these rides, either, but these bars give even more of an open feel. I do remember feeling like there was still a distinct advantage to sitting on the very edge...like, maybe the seats were a bit too close together for comfort? But that's life.
  12. Shame this was such a huge fail! I think I'm already "over" not riding it, though...
  13. I actually really enjoyed Talon and Steel Force and Hydra. I thought Steel Force was comparable to Mamba, possibly with slightly better airtime (but lacking that devilish headchopper helix); on par with Steel Eel; and way better than Wild Thing. Hydra was just as good as any other floorless, with some pleasant front seat views and airtime in the back. It's too bad Thunderhawk is so polarizing. Sounds like it was once consistently one of the better wooden coasters out there, and perhaps even sporadically so in recent years. But in the back car it was easily one of my least favorite woodies, with no forces. In the front there's a surprise pop of air, but it's still one of my least favorite woodies. If one ride has to lose buzz bars it might as well be this one, though it'll be a shame if they do detract further from the ride.
  14. I found it intuitive to lean into the turns on Maverick, though it still chopped my neck. It was also one of the few smooth, high-thrill coasters where I prefer to hold on, after a sharp arm chop. Last year it seemed friendlier overall, but I finally noticed the restraints tightening during the ride. But for me it was still comfortable and, like the other so-called issues, doesn't detract from the ride at all--nothing I mentioned is even close to a complaint.
  15. ^Nice! Seems like it should be easy enough to come up with a cute new name for a Wacky Worm. I'm holding out hope that this a still-relevant hint to their long-term plans. But who knows.
  16. Nice refresh for a very worthy coaster! Also, this reminds me of when I was convinced Fahrenheit was once bright red, based on a photo. Now wondering if it was a mislabeled photo of Storm Runner.
  17. "Down South Blues" - Dock Boggs
  18. I like all the enthusiasm over Rampage. Looks like the account is off to a good start!
  19. "Come On In My Kitchen" - Robert Johnson
  20. ^You may want to check out the recent thread about exactly that. There's also a lot of overlap with the various credit counting threads. Personally, I would never think to count it as a "credit," but don't really care whether it's a "coaster." That's funny, because I have a coaster book that explicitly classifies Cedar Point's Demon Drop as a roller coaster. This was after Superman: The Escape opened, but it was still considered a revolutionary new technology at the time.
  21. "Wild About You Baby" - Elmore James
  22. ^It's too bad they aren't getting that Mega-Lite. So, yet another Volare? For sure? Well, at least they're getting Intamins too.
  23. It makes sense that they got something truly all-ages as advertised. I like how parks are doing so many late/surprise announcements lately, even if sometimes minor. Not sure if that's really a new thing, but cool either way.
  24. Very interesting--I've already learned new things about the coaster and park, and I like the personal storytelling as well. Great photos, especially that construction one that makes it look so twisty. I'm not the one to ask, but I feel like this would be right at home in the main forum?
