Andy Shine's Quiz Time
BrownStreak replied to Simon Baynham's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
17 out of 20....Come on I can't even spell short words without spell check! There is a slight error in one of the other quizes on that site- The Disney Quiz asked what a Utilidor is and the "correct" answer mentions the word "underground," while they are actually not underground but at ground level and the park is built on top of them. -

Looking at the early 1980's shots of Adventure Island I am guessing that was a huge inspiration for Typhoon Lagoon's being built around a large man-made mountain (Mount Mayday). -
Its better than any of the health films I had to watch in High School. Its too bad you don't find more of this kind of stuff in public in the US- the schools teach a streamlined version of it to please the churches and parents are still too shy to properly discuss the subject especially when it comes to STD's. Look at the Europeans- sex is much more out in the open there and they don't have even close to the problem we have here with rape and other sex crimes. The American Prude is still alive and well and filling our country.

If you should ever happen to come across any of the 1970's - 1980's commercials from Fantasy Island (NY) i.e. "Fun! Wow!" I WANT THEM! They break the tacky meter- even when they were new they seemed dated and cheesy:) -

Two side comments: I was just reading an article at Yesterland.com where Disney offered bus tours to Cypress Gardens back in the 1970's. Also in regards to US 27- when I worked at Disney back in the mid-1990's I lived at US 27 and 192 and all that was there was my apartment complex. When I was looking up Cypress Gardens on Google Maps earlier I looked at that area as well and was surprised how built up it is! -

^^^^One article I read talked about how they just finished widening US-27 to six lanes- that should help...shouldn't it? I'm also wondering if the 570 is a viable alternative... -

LA Times 11:40am EST: "Merlin plans a multimillion-dollar expansion of the Florida property to turn the shuttered site into a multiday resort, promising to add hotels and attractions from its other holdings, which include the SeaLife Aquarium, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum and the London Eye Ferris wheel." Okay...a Ferris Wheel the height of the London Eye out in the middle of "nowhere," makes about as much sense as the Giant Wheel at Darien Lake. -

A question to Electerik and mcjaco from two pages back= how did you know that your turtles were male? Also what was the Earthquake attraction from next door to the indoor golf place? -

^^ CP Thunder Canyon has 12-seaters with a turn-table while Darien Lake has six-seaters with the straight-line boarding and I think GL was the same. SFGrAm also has a 12-seater with a turn table. -

Near the end- a neat look at Disaster Transport when it was not enclosed (why does it still close in the rain?!)- Also I have always LOVED the pictures and films about those trolleys at Coney Island that traveled on the same track and moved over each other to pass. At about 1:30 into the video- I thought that only smaller parks like DL and GL (RIP) used the straight-line conveyor belt loading systems for rapids rides- I thought that the turn-table was the standard for larger parks (and I thought that was the standard for the first several of those rides). -

CG is about the same distance from I-4 as CP is from I-80/90 and it is also much closer to Orlando than CP is to Cleveland or Toledo- its not that far! I would like to see the park restored to its Busch-owned setting with a handful of kids' rides to keep them entertained, the boat ride through the gardens, the butterfly aviary, the great shows, and the stellar water ski show. Did they even have a water ski show before they closed last? Not every park needs to be a million dollar making mega-park. Its okay to have a small attraction that not everyone is going to come and see. If you try to stretch into too many demographic groups- you are not going to be able to run any of them to their best capacity. Look at CP- they have added many stellar rides as of late but their shows are now seriously lacking (and are all mixing into being copies of each other). If they do decide to Lego-ize the park it would be neat if they just mixed in the Mini-Land Section and maybe theme the kids rides. -

It was searching online for something not even park related when I came across this article discussing the real reason that Camp Snoopy left Mall of America and I felt I should share it here: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/31031 MOD EDIT: For those not in the US, the onion is a humor site dripping eith sarcasm. A warning so no one mistakenly asks silly questions.

Why did they take out Tidal Wave as opposed to say Demon? The same question could posed for Superman- why did Shockwave go instead of Demon? Or why did they get rid of Deja Vu instead of Demon? -

Shane, its kind of cool how you have a shot of Tidal Wave in the video segment for Shockwave. I actually kind of liked Shockwave, although I always felt like I was leaving the park to go it. If I remember correctly you walked along a long elevated bridge and old parking space markings could be seen on the pavement below. As far as Tidal Wave is concerned I always find it interesting to note that the reason for the original Batman: The Ride's compact layout is because it was squeezed into the space once occupied by a shuttle coaster. I wonder if they had built Batman: The Ride in an area with more space if the layout would have been bigger and then I further wonder if it still would have been copied as many times... -

I still think you should take a cue from the new Kristin Chenoweth "made-for-tv" Christmas movie "12 Men of Christmas," and do a TPR Beefcake Calender with Dan as the centerfold...just a thought. -

13 Days...from a random day until December 31st. Interesting. I'm assuming its in reference to the 12 Days of Christmas. I have always found it funny that seemingly no one knows when the 12 Days of Christmas actually are... ...They are the 12 Days between Christmas and the Feast of the Epiphany- Jan. 6th. Yet all of the parks will have their decorations down before then. My traditionalist parents leave their decorations up until the 6th every year- its funny because most people seeing that assume they are just lazy or something. -

Was the Dragon a cable car (like in San Francisco)? Also it does look like it only has one track but with more than one car. I tried to find more info about it on the net, but all I came up with were the two pics from 2 pages back.
