Geauga Lake Discussion Thread

Maybe CF would give it to GA for that exact erason? Wishful thinking -
I too hate it when people say, "OMG Coasthsterths!" And praise it just for that. I mean coasters are great and all, but personally, I would just like 3 - 5 good coasters in a park, and the rest of the attractions can be various shows, dark rides, water rides, and flats. There's so much more to experience. Not to mention, there's no point in having 17 coasters if they aren't even all open, or if it takes forever to get on the ride. I also find the large ammounts of forign workers to be annoying because half of them don't even know thier own policies. (IE guests with Xtreme Passes do in fact get 20% discounts off of food)

As for the battle of the EMV argument between Dinosaurs and IJ, I have to say I also like IJ better, but I also enjoy Disnosaurs, though not quite as much as Indy. What I liked about Dinosaurs was that the thrill came from the sound effects. I though the Carnitaur was pretty scary with the roar and everything, and I just thought it was cool that they did the ride like that. But to me, they're completely different rides. Other then the ride vehicle being the same, the layout is different, and so is the enviornment. But what I will say is that Dinosaurs was absolutely way to dark and you could barely see anything. I guess its so that they wouldn't have to show the entire dinosaur, but they could have easily hidden the body behind some trees or bushes, or something. But Indiana Jones is a very amazing ride in itself. The only thing I don't like about it is the nothingness between going under the bridge and the room where they through the spears at you. You see a smoke screen which projects rats onto you (which isn't very exciting to me) and that's about it. Where as Tokyo's, you come to a stop, and a guy screams something at you then blows a huge smoke ring towards you. Though if I'm going to compare the Tokyo to DLR one, I'd say they're on par with each other siply because only minor things have been tweaked based off of videos I've watched. Tokyo has better lighting and a tornado, then the smoke ring. Disneyland has the crappy Gold room, then the awsomely lit purple and terquoise rooms, with a destroyed mara that shoots laser's at you, along with English. What's better between the two? I'd say Tokyo, but if DLR's would replace the rats with something as cool as what the Tokyo version has, I'd probably say DLR, simply because it's near by. /end EMV comparison.

Bigfoot to get the boot!
Gnome replied to knottslover77's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It breaks down alot? I remember when they used to run the waterfalls during the especially hot days so there would be a chance of people getting soaked. And the capacity is pretty good, especially compared to the raft ride at SFMM where they just have a single station and take 5 minutes to load each boat. Not to mention that BFR is a whole lot more exciting then what they have at SFMM. It was all like, ah we're going to get wet, and a big wave of water hit you, and that was it. It's not the constant rapids like all the other raft rides out there. -
Jaguar USED to have a 42" height requirement. I'm not sure which DVD it is, but one of Robb and Elissa's DVD's has video of Dallas riding Jaguar when it was 42" then showing him not tall enough when it went to 48". So are they saying the ride was unsafe for 42" people when it was that??? Who knows, but I remember when I was 5 and that first thing came out (wasn't even tall enough for Indiana Jones at Disneyland yet) and I was so stoked to go on it. And then I remember feeling a little jelous that kids smaller then me got to appreciate the "big kids" ride. But see that's what was cool about it, is you didn't have to be very tall to ride. Something that most 4 and 5 year olds on up are able to go on. And there's really nothing about it that would require that you be taller. Freaking Cedar Fair...

I think that's what makes me mad the most about Jaguar. The audience that would appreciate it best can't even ride it. I don't even know why they have that rule. And I remember one time when I went to knott's they told a kid who was almost 48 inches that he couldn't ride, and it just kind of pissed me off. I felt like screaming at the ride ops for following that stupid rule because there is no way in hell anything bad is going to happen. Especially seeing as how countless kids under 48 inches rode the thing without a single incident. No, its theming and atmosphere that CF skimps out on, not the actual ride itself. Though in all honesty, I'm not completely sure how to feel about this ride. If its a true "family" coaster like it should be, I think I'll welcome it, but if its not, I'll still ride it, but I will still be really dissappointed with it. I would personally like Knotts to be the place that I go to for more fun then just a couple of coasters. Because really that's all it is to me. Just a place to get a couple of rides on a couple of good coasters. But a themepark isn't all about the roller coasters. It's so much more. That's why I like places like Disney, Universal, or the Anhieser-Busch parks because they are more. They know a park can not be supported on coasters alone. And they're the parks which become destinations instead of just field trips because they offer to every age group, and excell at it.

Originally I was going to vote IOA, but when I noticed you had included it with USF, it made the decision all that more easier because I think the combination of the two parks really combine to make a good experience. With USF being more dark ride based and slightly more family friendly with IOA still being fairly family friend, though a little more adult oriented. Along with that you also have some very cool themed areas, with extremely good architecture all around that you just really can't see anywhere else unless you go to DisneySeas, or another theme park that excels in bringing only the best to one place.

that was Knott's Family doings, don't put the blame on CF for that one. Though I'm sure they would have destroyed it eventually anyways. -

^ they're already getting a spinner in camp snoopy... -
Its suppose to be a freaking family coaster, not another SilverBullet. Family meaning younger riders will go on it. THey don't make uber intense rides for little kids. Anyways, it definately looks like it will be some fun. If its landscaped appropriately, I can see it being even more fun. One thing I kind of like about the Camp Snoopy area is that you feel like you're in a forest, so it actually feels like a camp. I hope they keep the same idea with this.

Maybe if they went to my dad's company for geoligical assistance, then Tatsu wouldn't be having these problems right now. Anyways, glad to hear free falls up, I'll have to get back down to the mountain before my pass expires so that A) I can renew it without getting dinged for parking fees, and B) because I would like to use my pass 1 - 2 more times before the year is up.

I hope it doesn't go. A good intamin coaster would be cool and all, but not at the expense of Big Foot Rapids. It's a great ride because riders from all demographics can enjoy it. I would understand if they were planning to expand into the backstage area a bit, but to start removing bits of the ride now for it would seem like they're starting at the wrong place. After all, they would first have to have an adequete building already up to relocate the stuff inside the whare houses to. We'll see. Hopefully they won't destroy it or I'll have no choice but to steal a crap load of money so I can become the majority shareholder in the company set things right with knotts. -
DCA: perplexing security incident
Gnome replied to flyingspin's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't think she should have been such rude about the whole incident. Its an honest mistake, especially as from what it sounded like, there ws no notice or anything. I would complain anyways, simply because if it happens once its bound to happen again. And they're called cast members because they're suppose to be putting on a show for the guests, not shouting at them for an honest mistake and making them feel stupid. A simple, "Oh please don't touch that button for a reason because bla bla bla" would have been the proper way to go about it, imo. -
Toverland is a very odd park, imo.
-
I think a lot of you might be dissappointed with this coaster. Keep in mind that it's suppose to be a family addition, not a hardcore adrenaline addict addition. This is something that knotts needs. There is nothing wrong with a family addition either. It doesn't have to be hardcore thrills to be a good ride. Besides, I don't know about you guys but I enjoy variety in my theme park experience.

Disneyland / California Adventures!
Gnome replied to Ryan King's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Starting early January, Space Mountain will be converted to Rocket Space Mountain for 4 month along with Rocking California Screaming (or w/e they're calling it.) Though it's to bad that Storm Trooper didn't blast you. Sure would have shown you for not wearing your ketchup shirt. Anyways, it looked like fun. I wish I went today, but for reasons to complicated to explain a trip to disneyland for me is a no go this weekend. Maybe in a couple weeks. -
from looking at the satalite images you can see that there is a large easily excessible spot in Suess Landing, so I think the grinch ride is a possibility. There are 2 spots of land to the right and left of jurassic park. And a decent space of land in the back of Marvel Hero Island, though the park's designers would have to get created in order to tap into that space, but I'm sure if the time comes for that, they won't have a problem doing such.

DLP is the root of all evil. Its the reason why DLR never got the cool Space Port theme for the Tommarrowland make over, and a big factor into why WestCot was never built. The french did it to spite us. And now that those plans never happen, they finally decide to attend the park. But it really does look like a beautiful park. -
took some pictures today, nothing new really happenning, but w/e. Random Silver bullet picture. 10 brownie points to the first person to name which ride's exit that used to be. or this I can't tell you that last time knotts has built something like this. hopefully they'll rebuild it when they're done. wall deconstruction no train tracks This picture is dirty. This is a construction site, not a desk job! BTW, its in the camp snoopy area. Where the boat that floated around the lake used to be at. No one's ever taken a picture of this marker before.... Maybe if they had more then one guy working more would get done?

IOA is sooo beautiful! While they may not have quite as many technologicially advanced rides as Disney, the experience, and especially the theming is on par or better then what Disney has to offer, imo. Nice Trip Report. -

It's a trade show for industry/media only. I thought ACErs got in too, though I guess that would be a bad idea.
