Carowinds Discussion Thread

^I don't think Raging Bull is a very fair comparison for airtime... It's great that a small group of people go to parks alone, but seriously, outside of the coaster enthusiast community (and even inside in most cases), who goes to parks alone? Most people that ride this will be teens with a group of their friends, I don't think they'll like being isolated nearly as much as the few people that go alone. -

What did airtime ever do to America to make us hate it so much? -
Andrew "No fake words used in this tweet" Iorio I believe this should answer your first question... I know Ninja is down right now, at least 3 of the water rides are too, but both Jet Stream and Log Jammer were open when I went a couple weeks ago, so I'm assuming they're still open. Edit: Looking at the "SixFlagsMM" Twitter page, I'm going to call bs on it. It seriously sounds like it's some 8th grade fanboy running this thing, here are a few quotes from the page: I doubt that a company trying to have itself taken seriously would approve of these false facts and bad grammar.

Robb's Fantastic 40th Birthday Cruise!
atem122 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Robb, since you're married, would you mind passing over whatever chicks you get with that 3 wolf moon shirt to me? The power of my 3 wolf moon footsie pajamas (which I DO actually own) hasn't seemed to kick in yet. That looks like an epic party voyage, happy birthday! -

Call me a skeptic tank (clever right?) but it seems like with that speed and the weight of the trains, that it could be a close call with slowing the train down on the brake run. That said, I'm certain that it will come to a proper stop as Intamin engineers are smart enough to NOT make that happen. It does look pretty awesome, too short, but pretty awesome. -
I just finished 3 weeks' worth of winter break work in 1 week!

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
atem122 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I got one of my friends to say: "Note to self: Avoid all rides from that company [intamin] involving cables." I felt so accomplished (she asked the standard "Didn't somebody lose their feet on that drop tower?" question first). -
Haha I have a philosophy that if you take your RCT3 rides seriously, then you're even more of a loser than the standard, also a loser, RCT3 player And you are officially my favorite commenter ever for getting the Flight of the Conchords reference! ^Haha, don't wear yourself out, only a few of my rides are decent, as you go back in time, they get progressively worse and worse.

Uhhhh Uhhhh Uhhhh UPDATE!!!! That's right, boys, girls, boygirls, and pedobears alike, it's time for yet another update on my craptastic ride! So yeah, I've done a lot of work, here's the future locker and flash pass area! See?! I wasn't lying. The wreckage area...nothing special really. Tree spotting! ...is that a light? This is a receding tree line, not a receding hair line, if you want a receding hair line, then click this link: http://assets.gearlive.com/celebrities/blogimages/JudeLaw_bald.jpg It's very Tree-y, rocky, and grassy up here. "Fly my pretty." Here's a rock wall. Marvel at it. Rocks Rocks Rocks Rocks Gamecocks Rocks Rocks C***s Rocks Rocks Grass Grass Grass Grass Bass Grass Grass Grass A** Grass Grass Grass The legendary 2 train shot. Levitra, or fire? You decide. It's the same picture, BUT NOW THE TRAIN'S OVER THERE! And here's your standard progress overview...part one. "Hey baby, why don't we kill the lights?...well technically, the sun went down and we're reviving the lights...but I speak in metaphors hun." Ahhh yeah, Levitra land is allll lit up Levitra land is ALL lit up now! I am running out of captions since my brain is totally fried...COLORS! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emM_juVdzds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emM_juVdzds And all those haters thought it was impossible to get a corkscrew THROUGH THE LOOP shot. Look at all those colors...not enough Levitra though. "You're so beautiful, oh you could be a waitress!" "Look at the stars, see how they shine for you, and they were all orange..." Oh thank God! No more pictures, I can finally stop making this BS update! Now, I order anyone reading this to comment and give me feedback "Be more constructive with your feedback" (bonus points if you get that reference).

Mitch Hawker's Coaster Poll 2009!
atem122 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Why is that? Tatsu is smooth, intense, and has a unique layout for a flyer. X2 just beats the hell out of you. Overall, I'd say that is a solid top 20. It's clear that people enjoy Intamin and B&M hypers, which is fine by me, since I share that sentiment too! I find Tatsu very boring myself actually (apart from the lift hill and pretzel of course), that could be due to riding it too many times, but I honestly have no desire to really ride it anymore unless the line for it is super short. X2 at least excites me, although I agree that it can be pretty rough sometimes, it usually gives me a good ride. -
^Agreed. He makes the show more than watchable.

Mitch Hawker's Coaster Poll 2009!
atem122 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
California can't even crack the top 30 Lol, and there's no way in hell Tatsu should be ranked above X2, where's the representation from the West Coast Nutjobs?! -
Happy birthday Robb! (If you look at the birthdays list, you can see that he shares his birthday with the "Midwest Nutjob Prowler Fanboy" )

Well both theme parks seem to try and build rides in extremely small spaces (Goliath and Colossus for example) and seem to let rides rot when the next one is built (I have heard the Riddler's station used to have strobes and lighting which has gone over time. In comparison, a roller coaster called Nemesis Inferno used to have red lighting in the station and in a tunnel with very thick misting and steam. Other water effects are also long gone. Some of them were fixed for the Halloween event only because a member of staff said he would do it for free in his own time) and the atmosphere can be very tense at points when you are a group of 2 or by yourself. Also, we saw the sign for no refunds but we could of at least got our flashpass gold for another day or been given tickets that are one use but don't have a time you have to use them by. A 3 month expiry date is just stupid for abroad visitors who probably won't come back for at least a year. That's funny, I went the day after, and the strobes in Riddler's station were actually finally working! And I highly disagree about them letting coasters rot. In the past few years, these coasters (that I can remember) have gotten full paint jobs:X2, Viper, Ninja, Deja Vu, Batman, and Goliath. However, I will agree that Scream has been totally left to rot (although it was a rotten ride to begin with ). Batman has also lost some of its effects like Nemmie Inferno, but for the most part, SFMM has been good at keeping their park presentable recently.

Agreed on these 3, I saw my school's production of Cabaret (we have really good actors at my school) and it was awesome! Can't hate the strippers either Avenue Q is extremely hilarious, and Sweeny Todd is great.

^They are on busy days yeah, especially since they're probably understaffed right now. Being an SFMM local, I always make sure that I go on days that arent too bad (I actually went the day after you and the lines never got to more than like 10 minutes [well 20 for X2, but still very short]). I have been to SFMM on a bad day though, and I will agree that it gets pretty miserable, when the lines are long, the queues tend to be slow moving and unorganized. That said, that trip, and my spring break trip in 08 were the only 2 unsatisfactory visits I've had there. For obvious reasons.
