Magic Mountain Trip Report & Guide *UPDATED*
atem122 replied to Hydraglow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Haha, I'm glad somebody also feels the same about riding on the outside of the stairs side! I love that at one point at the end of the turn around, you're actually hanging over the parking lot. And my last rides on the outside were actually pretty bearable too! I think X2 is just day-to-day in how well it's running. -

I think your problems with X2 probably may have come with riding it on the outside seat. The inside seats provide a much smoother, and much more enjoyable ride. Although, I'm usually fine with sitting on the outside of the front row, so maybe you just got unlucky (X2's roughness always seems to vary), or maybe I can handle more of a beating. When it doesn't kill you, it's actually a pretty good ride (by California standards at least). I'm glad you had a good day though, SFMM is always fun when there's nobody there! And you picked a good three rides to skip, those are by far the least interesting in the park. -
^While I do admit this show looks fantastic and better than what I imagined, EPCOT has more than enough of a show in the form of Illuminations. I would never want to see this at EPCOT as that'd probably mean the end of Illuminations, and if it didn't mean the end of Illuminations, it'd be completely upstaged!

A way to show off my new glasses I suppose... Bonus points if you can tell which reality TV star I am channeling. Edit: ...and it's cranberry-raspberry juice.

My weekend agenda: Get substantial work done on 2 chapters of history, study for the AP Euro exam which is this Friday, study for the AP Bio exam which is the ensuing Monday, and practice for my jazz bad audition which is Tuesday. This is going to be a very fun weekend.

^^It really doesn't haha, it's just a nitpick from an SFMM fanboy. I mean I'd much rather see Ninja without them (clearly), but in the end, they do much more good than harm for the average park-goer, or even myself for that matter. As I said, I'd much rather have this than pay a lot extra to get in and buy food and other stuff around the park, it's just bad that SF has to resort to this to keeping the prices the way they are!

We finally get rid of the annoying hair gel ads on Viper, and now this?! I completely understand that riding Karate-Kid: The Remake: The Ride is better than paying a ridiculous amount to get in / Six Flags going the way of Billy Mays, and I know that it wont detract from the ride experience at all, but seriously, no park chain should be this desperate (too bad SF is). I think people who ride Ninja should be paid for advertising a product

China built their first wooden coaster last year, and now they're going to have 3 (well 4 if you count both sides) *probably* world class woodies in the near future. It really makes me want to figure out some way to get out there! I must say though, the concept of a dueling TGG woodie does sound mighty fine.

^^Congrats (although I already saw that on FB haha)! ^Great job man I ran a 5:41 mile on Thursday and a 12:52 two mile. I'm actually pretty happy about it because I hadn't run for just about the whole week before, and then only had 3 days to train prior to the meet.

I took this picture a couple weeks ago, but has anyone else who has gone to the park recently noticed this? I'd be worried about Terminator's state if it weren't such a good ride by west coast standards. But the death of its audio and the paint chipping off of the side shows that it definitely needs some extra maintenance if they wanna keep billing this as (one of) Six Flags's best theming attempt.

^Haha, I'm more worried about them hitting the deadline than actually riding it. The project honestly hasn't interested me since the ride was announced, I just find it odd that opening day is a month away and no (visible) progress has been made on the site since December. That said, I'm also above 42'', so you can be sure that I'm going to whore it *hopefully* sometime around when it opens

^Sounds like you had a great little day there, EBL! Is anyone else wondering how the heck they're going to have this entire ride set up in pretty much a month? Like, I suppose they could get all the track in place in a couple days since the ride is so simple to construct, but there are no footers, there's no concrete, and frankly, the construction site has been in the exact same state since December! Does anyone know how long it usually takes to assemble one of these rides?

Trust me, when you do get a girlfriend...there are a lot more exciting things you can do with them than ride Matterhorn. Yeah. Like for instance, you can make out on KOD. Wait, scratch that. HAHAHAHAHA I suppose you're right, Robb. Although if she's big, white, and you "do those more exciting things" with her, I suppose it would still be considered riding the Matterhorn. (wow, I just dug myself into a deeper hole with that one) On a serious, well for coaster nerdiness that is, note, I actually think the new trains look pretty cool. And those seat belts will be MUCH easier to deal with; not that the others were too hard, but these will be better.

Umm I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I wanna say June 21st (my school's schedule hasn't been updated). However, that's a Monday (in reality, they only cut 4 days off of the last week), so I doubt anyone's actually going to show up. June 18th will probably be the last day of attendance for most people.
-
I'd probably say the Tuesday as well. Fridays seem to be the more crowded weekday at SFMM, especially once some of the schools get out. Also note, for anyone going in mid to late June: The LAUS(my)D is too poor to afford a full year of school! So basically we've had the last week of our school year eliminated, along with the Thursday before Memorial Day. Just a notice for anyone who plans on going before the totally deadly summer crowds come.

While most crews still can be improved greatly, I actually did see quite an improvement when I went last Sunday. Viper: 2 trains, but absolutely no stacking, hell, the train didn't come to a complete stop until it was in the station (as in no stopping on either of the last 2 brake runs). X2: Either minimal stacking, or no stacking at all. Which is pretty good considering how complicated the restraints are and the nature of rotating the seats. Goliath: 99% of the time I ride this, the ride operators on either side seem to be racing each other when checking restraints, they're always good. Last Sunday, I believe there was about a minute in the station with no train at all as they were able to get the trains out that fast (it only had 2 train operation going though). Riddlers: The best crew I've seen for it in a while, absolutely no stacking, and they allowed me the opportunity to get this *rare* picture: However, hearing that Joey was able to run RR with 3 trains and not stack really shows that operations have gone down quite a bit. I'd also blame this on teens who simply don't feel the need to work that hard as the job is only temporary. That said, the operations are looking quite decently improved .
