Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
itnotfair replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I rode my first GCI, Thunderhead, this summer, and I am so excited for this coaster. Just like the Dollywood coaster, once this ride gets going, it never lets up! I was surprised to see a POV already, and it looks awesome. I love intense rides as much as the next guy, but there's nothing wrong with sacrificing some intensity for family enjoyment. Its not as if the park is lacking in the thrill department. It is lacking in the GCI woodie department. Until now. The theme is negligible. Its a GCI people, be happy! -
Yeah I was hoping for something a bit classier, more along the lines of Toy Story's building, for this coaster. But if they are really going to be getting rid of it eventually, I can see why they don't want to go overboard on the theming. As for the Zephyr, my girlfriend and I were riding it a couple months ago, and the friendly ride op said they'd be getting rid of it soon. That is definitely a rumour, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it removed. I'll be hitting DCA on the 23rd for the trick-or-treat, hopefully I'll get some more info!

-I hate getting to a park to find one or two of the better rides are closed. -Crappy parents drive me nuts. Amusement parks are ideal places to have fun with your kids while teaching them safe and considerate behavior in public. -Kids on leashes are a classic example of lazy parenting. -Littering is bad, mmmkay? Gum does not belong on coaster supports! -I hate how there's a smoking section right next to Big Thunder at DL, and the final lift hill with the caving sides is eternally hotboxed with 'backy smoke. Is it theming?? Nope, its cancer! I feel so much better. Good thread.

Eating and coasters

For those enthusiasts out there who find themselves becoming more motion sick as the years go by, I hear ginger is a good way to prevent nausea. -
Eating and coasters

I had some KBF chicken once, rode Boomerang and then Jaguar. Man that sucked. I blame the coasters, not the chicken. -
^ true. Also, in keeping with the theme, Terminator: Salvation, the ride will be made of liquid wood, much like Robert Patrick in T2, but wooden instead of steel. It will be able to change shape and stab annoying GP at will with cruel looking points. The concrete slab will prevent it from planting in the soil. germinating, and devouring the planet.

The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread

Everyone's been talking about the new Radiator Springs Racers ride at DCA being based on the test track ride system, but screamscape.com posted a rumour that got me really excited: I smell a credit. A launched credit. -
Engineering Thrills

I remember thinking X2 was going to be really smooth with the new 20% lighter trains. I then remember riding it and thinking it was jerkier than I expected, but it wasn't painful and it was still a lot of fun. The fire comes out of no where and it's so hot you don't know what's happening and you start to cry a little. It adds intensity to an already viciously intense ride. So glad its at SFMM! Anyway back to the show. I've always loved roller coaster docs, though I realized early on that they were just paid advertisements. Niagara's Fury dominated most of this advertisement, and unfortunately, the ride looks like it needs all the publicity it can get. Who would want to see some air conditioned circlevision about Niagara falls when the freakin' falls are right outside. They are one of the natural wonders of the world, look at the damn things, they're down right majestic. And the air is misty and cold, just like in Niagara's Fury! Oooh but the circlevision uses digital cameras to make a seamless circle of Fury! Nature cannot compete with the beauty of circlevision! It reminds me of the idiots who thought up DCA... -

RCDB has revealed the location of the next S&S El Loco. Flamingoland will be the proud mommy of a new El Loco model coaster in 2009. It will be larger and have a 125 degree drop. I don't know how reliable this is, as RCDB also claims that Timberline Twister at KBF is 30ft tall. And if TT is 30ft tall, I'm a sandwich. And a very tall one at that. -

Agh forums...you know I spent 10 minutes looking for a KBF superthread before I posted this so nobody would get mad? Sorry to break the rules. -

Found this on Sceamscape.com today. Is So Cal in for some excitement in these next couple years, or what? SFMM's got the new GCI coming next year, DCA's got Cars Land and the Little Mermaid after that, DL's got Star Tours v. 2 coming as well as an entire Tomorrowland redux, and now...well who knows what Knotts will bring to the table? I'm hoping for an El Loco or a Stingray model, they both look so unique and fun. Ben -
Awesome TR! Hershey park looks like so much fun! Except for the Falcon/Condor ride!! OMG I remember when SFMM had the Condor. Puke city. Population: Me.

I rode the Xcelerator!
itnotfair replied to Rocket Rodder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There's a feature in this month's LA Weekly with Xcelerator chosen as scariest coaster in So Cal. If you scroll down to the bottom you'll see winning coasters in several categories...I'm not sure I agree with this guy's choices in general. He likes a lot of the coasters I like, but he rates them oddly. Nonetheless its worth a gander I think. Grats on riding a great launch coaster! Have you ridden Ghostrider yet? click here to see this LA weekly dude's opinions! do you agree? don't forget to scroll down or you'll be confused -
1985 - thats the last stabbing at SFMM. No children stabbed. Shooting...lets see...1998. 10 years ago. No children shot. You have a much greater chance of getting into a car accident on the way to the park than encountering any violence in Valencia. Metal Detectors - What is it about a metal detector that could POSSIBLY make you unable to take a child to SF? It may bother you that people feel that they are necessary, but they don't hurt anyone. I took my 12 year old nephew the other day, and we had a blast. I've been going my whole life, and I've only ever had fun. (except in the bathrooms, but seriously, its no worse than the beach!) I hope you're all wrong and you don't know as much about stocks and financing as you appear to. I'd love to see that 50th anniversary!

This is the most depressing thread ever. Not one of you can claim to know the future. Isn't that depressing enough? Why assume the worst? I plan on riding Six Flags coasters as long as I can. Hope its a while. I'm not going to tell anyone I know anything more than that. 'Cause I don't. And neither do you. Are you really worried about the corporation's survival? Buy a ticket! Take your niece! Win a giant fifty-cent doll for $10.00! Carry it around all day! Eat some funnel cake! At least then you're having fun and AND doing something proactive to help ensure the survival something you love. Right now you're just worrying about something that probably won't even happen. Besides, if it turns out anything like Thunderhead, the 2009 GCII at SFMM is going to be so freakin' awesome!! Can I help it if my excitement for the new woodie totally overrides my fears of imminent corporate collapse?

Speed: The Ride in Las Vegas .... Closed?
itnotfair replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
no more high roller, no more speed...that makes desperado, canyon blaster, and manhattan express...3 credits still available near vegas. any i'm missing? -
Is Roar in SFDK the same as the Roar in SFA? If not, are all of GCI's coasters unique? I hope so, because the fact that SFMM and CGA have both announced new GCI woodens for 2009 makes me nervous that we'll be getting a couple clones in California. Any thoughts? Stay quiet, sit back, and wait until the coasters are built, you say? What are we all doing here then? Exchanging Sharktums-friendly hotdog recipes?

Photo TR: Coasters at Yorkshire's two parks
itnotfair replied to DandAyr's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I've never heard of any of these parks, so its a treat to see the coasters they offer. So the SLC was the smoothest of the bunch? From what I hear, that's rather unusual. Painful or not, I'd love to hit that. All of it. Cool TR. Cheers!
