  1. ^ I don't understand what your point is. How is it a step back? I see that you don't like gimmicks, but where do you draw the line between a gimmick and a novel idea? Are the 4D trains on X2 a gimmick? How about rides like Soarin' and the Simpsons? Are they gimmicks? ^^So you wouldn't ride it? Even if it could give you a previously implausible five minute ride? There are definitely advantages to riding a real slide, but I can also see its limitations. That simulator would allow for some epically long experiences, simulating winding slides that would cost billions to build and all in a space the size of your backyard! Who needs a jacuzzi? But yeah Elissa was right, the capacity of this ride would make it a questionable investment for a theme park. Like DRWP2005 said earlier, maybe it would work as an upcharge...
  2. ^I agree. I see this more as a rich man's toy than a real solution for a water park. If you're still confused, here's a link to a clip of the slide in action on the DC website. Click play on the clip to the right. If you don't want to hit an external link, try searching for it.
  3. Terminator: the Ride. A good GCI, imho, was one of the things SFMM was sorely lacking. It may not be an El Toro, but it'll definitely be a fun ride and stiff *cough cough* competition for the best woodie on the west coast. I was also looking forward to the new GCI for CGA, but it won't happen by '09.
  4. How's this for a small footprint? Says Discovery Channel: It can be programmed to simulate any number of outrageous layouts. It looks pretty cool, but its logistically problematic. I don't think it needs much water to run, so if 5 kids ride it, you're looking at a 5 to 1 ratio of urine to water. Otherwise, I'd ride that thing all day long!
  5. Once, in the Pirates line at DL, a couple started edging in front of my party. Then three little teenage girls did the same. I decided to say something, which was unfortunate, because they were just trying to get under the eaves; it had just started to rain. They ended up laughing at me, and I felt like a curmudgeon. Moral of the story? I wait until we get up to the gates before I confront line cutters.
  6. 1. X2 2. Tatsu 3. Goliath 4. Scream! I need to get to the back of the park more. I remember Riddler being a real nut-cruncher, but people seem enthusiastic about it. Think I'll give it another shot next time I go!
  7. I couldn't agree more. Why are people so hard on that ride? I'd much rather ride it over Batman. Its not as if I don't like intense rides either; X2 and Tatsu are two of my favorites. How could you call a B&M invert boring, and yet you can't go on spinny rides? I've never ridden Alpengeist or Dueling Dragons, and I'd love to, but if they're like Batman, I'll take smooth-as-butter Silver Bullet.
  8. ^ Welcome! I'm pretty new too, but I just wanted to respond because I hit Dollywood this summer, and it was soo much fun! You work at one of the best parks in the US imho! When you see entire families walking around with the same mullet, you know you're in Dollywood.
  9. I worked at USH for a summer in 1998. Their line-cutting policy at the time always struck me as brilliant and completely unfair. It was as follows. If party A complains that party B cut in line, but party B denies the fact, then party B is removed from their place in line and placed at the front of the line, unbeknownst to party A. That way, party A thinks party B was kicked out of line, while party B rides the ride and moves on: this way everyone is happy. Brilliant, in that no one is left angry, but unfair in that it seems to condone not only line-cutting, but also lying vigorously in defense of line-cutting. Does anyone know of any parks with similar rules?
  10. All around, I don't think it gets much better than Dollywood. They have a great variety of rides, delicious food, amazing location and theming, and terrific employees (expecially the ride ops). I even like their trams better than Disney's. I'd say my only complaint is that I wish there were more coasters! Those that they have are great, or if not great, unique. I'd just like to see a few more. Then again, the park's small size is part of its charm!
  11. Wow. Our trips to Dollywood were nearly identical! Same ride order! Same opinions! And I'm from So Cal, too (though I was only visiting Tenn). Yeah, so...I agree with you! Good TR! I miss Dollywood.
  12. Great website! I remember checking out the earlier version and wishing for some more info on GCII projects. This new site has all the info I wanted! Super well organized and I like the layout!
  13. ^I heard about the Jr. SLC, but I saw something on Screamscape.com saying they were gonna scrap it for a larger attraction. First, the Vekoma rumor in September: Then, the update in October: I'm waiting to hear more. As to Scream's paint job, I must admit that I agree. Scream's color scheme is kind of cool. I remember the first time I saw those interlocking corkscrews and thinking it looked awesome with the tritone paint. It's still in dire need of theming (you can literally see parking spaces directly under it!), and a recoat wouldn't hurt either.
  14. I might be one of those people. Xcelerator is ungodly. I still recommend SFMM. Have fun!!
  15. Thanks for the recommendation! Seems like a neat event, apparently they will have the world's largest xmas tree. It looks like they'll be closing some of the coasters for the event, though. We can't have that. Personally, I get enough winter pageantry at Disneyland anyway. I just wanna ride the coasters. I'm hoping to avoid crowds and to get some good rides in by not planning my trip on a holiday weekend.
  16. Cool, thanks! I can't wait to try out THBS! I'm planning a trip to SFDK and CGA soon, actually. I was going to go in January, but I hear it gets pretty stormy, so I'm thinking of bumping it up to late November. Think the weather will be decent?
  17. I just posted a huge intro and then the server went down! I'll try to make this one as good, but let me tell you, the original had moments of genius I'll be hard pressed to recreate. And by moments of genius I mean fart jokes. Hi everybody, I'm Ben. I've been posting for a little while already, I'm twenty-eight, a crooner, and I'm getting my BM in Jazz Studies. I've always loved coasters, and being a So Cal native, I've had access to quite a few! Recently, partially due to this web site and its resources, I've gone coaster crazy...perhaps unhealthily so. I'm planning a trip to SFDK and CGA in a few weeks. This trip will put me over 50 coasters and then some! With me as always will be my girlfriend of five years and coaster buddy, Laurice. She is not insane for coasters like I am, but she will ride any coaster that dares present itself to her! Parks I've in which I've farted: DL, DCA, SFMM, KBF, USH, MK, Epcot, Dollywood, Castles n' Coasters, Scandia. Top ten coasters in alphabetical order: California Screamin', Ghostrider, Goliath, Montezooma's Revenge, Mystery Mine, Space Mountain, Tatsu, Thunderhead, X2, Xcelerator No Kingda Ka, El Toro, Beast, Eagle Fortress, S:ROS, or Expedition Geforce!? Maybe when I ride 'em! Cheers to Robb, Elissa, and the famous-beyond-her-years KT! Thanks for this great web site and community!
  18. I think it's cool when existing coasters are upgraded and cosmetically altered. X2 looks way more diabolical than the old "Lakers Coaster" it once was, and the fire effects are insane. I just wish they would do the same with Scream. In fact, I find it confusing that Medusa, amidst her theming and shrubbery, is getting a face lift when Scream is still illegally parked in the Tweety section setting car alarms off with its paint job.
  19. What really kills me is that in between my childhood KBF experiences and my pretty recent coaster infatuation, I missed the Windjammer Racers. Thats two togo credits I could have had if I were on the ball!! Were they any good?
  20. For those of you who have ridden both, how is Tony Hawk's Big Spin compared to Sierra Sidewinder at KBF? SS is the only spinner I've ever been on, and it's fairly fast and forceful for a Camp Snoopy ride. On a side note, I think the Screamin' Demon at Castle Park is open now. That makes three spinning coasters in California!
  21. Now that's a freakin' fair! That indoor traveller is insane! And the triple decker flume is equally so. To quote the Sham-Wow pitch man: Thanks for posting!
  22. Would that be next to the Dirty Box Car Racers?
  23. I heard a wild rumor that a version of Rock n' Roller Coaster with No Doubt supplying the soundtrack will be built in the new Hollywoodland at DCA. I think this might actually happen because Gwen Stefani is the next logical step after insipid High School Musical 3 dance parties. There has been nothing mentioned so far, and I didn't see anything about it at the Blue Sky Cellar, but I could just see it happening. Anyway, if they build one, I will ride it. With earplugs on.
  24. Cool video! I plan on hitting DK sometime this year, thanks for posting! Do I hear the stylings of a one-armed drummer in the background?
  25. This is the only on-ride pic I've ever felt the desire to buy. Our first time on Ghostrider at KBF. Believe it or not, we loved it! Check out the kids in the VERY back. I asked if they liked the ride, and one of them goes "that was dangerous!" Poor kids!
