Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

And what people don't seem to get is that is a hassle for the parks, also. Whether it be endless harassment of guests wanting the park to look for lost items immediately or extra time employees need to put in at the end of the day. -
Anyone else wish new spinners offered a non-spinning option? What? If new spinners offered a non-spinning options they wouldn't be spinners. Who or what are the new spinners offering options? Sorry, this is just a horribly worded question. But if I interpreted your question correctly: No, there are plenty of coasters that don't spin.

Lakemont Park changes
larrygator replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I do not think it will be back in 2018. -
I didn't ride this time, but the couple I was with (who are well traveled) really liked it and said it was not painful, they ride the Volare next, so it wasn't a comparison between the two. They hated the Volare. At the end of the day, they gave me their Luna Card with $20 left on it, so I will ride it sometime this summer.

Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Thanks for the clarification. I knew about the visit in the fall and to me that only means that RMC was part of the RFP for the new coaster. No matter the amount of technology available today a personal visit is always necessary. Business revolves around relationships. I missed the part about the recent RMC markers (or proof that they were RMC markers) along workers at the park last week. I thought the reference to RMC employees in the park was still a fall 2016 event. -
I won't dispute which is a better park to visit. Nor will I argue over which park for an out-of-state visitor to choose if they can go to just one. But to think this will seriously effect SFStL or WoF is very myopic. If every park goer in the Missouri area was given a choice to go to only one park one time, SDC could be the winner. However, the vast majority of visitors to SFStL and WoF have to concern themselves with travel. While neither park is entirely convenient to it's own market, they are clearly closer than SDC. $100 could provide someone a year worth of visits to SFStL (slightly more for WoF ) but that might afford only one trip to SDC. This becomes more than one-time park experience quality over quantity issue as the money goes much further across a whole summer in St Louis or Kansas City .

Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread

Sorry if I misinterpreted your writing as fact. So let me get this straight: There is a rumor that RMC was at the park. There is a rumor that the layout shown at the town council meeting looks like an RMC. And the conclusion is that the coaster is an RMC. Even if both statements are fact (which you say they are not); RMC could have been at the park the analyze the landscape during the RFP process for the 2018-9 project or possibly a future project. Even if they were analyzing the landscape for the 2018 coaster that does not mean they were the selected company. Regarding the layout, companies evolve and borrow techniques from other companies to stay current all the time. And on top of all this, we don't even know if the proposed coaster was approved with the original design. Even if RMC was intended to be the original designer, Kennywood may have had to go with a fall back plan (even secondary company) if the original layout was not approved. Until there is more proof (any any proof) RMC's currrent stake in this project is not known. -
I met up with some friends yesterday at Coney Island. People might think the prices are high but I think CAI is doing a great job pricing the wristband to market conditions. Lines to buy wristbands and cards were long but rides queue lines were very manageable. If you compare LunaPark to a corporate park the admission pricing is usually going to favor the corporate parks. Luna Park makes no money for parking and the food concessions % is much lower due to the outside businesses running most food stands. Yesterday there was a free pet talent show on the boardwalk that was more entertaining than any Six Flags Great Adventure show since the removal of the foul mouthed Percy Pelican show. Luna Park (and many other shore parks) sits on very expensive property. If prices are not managed properly it is a no win situation for all involved. The Luna Park/Scream Park all day wristband is expensive if you visit repeatedly, but for a first timer on the weekend it is in line with the value you get, if you take advantage of the 3 rides that are normally upcharges. Those 3 upcharge rides alone are priced at $46. That equates to only $24 for the rest of the rides. I rode Endeavor for the first time and thought it was a very good, intense ride. It felt a little more intense than an Enterprise, maybe it was because I'm getting older, maybe I was a little dehydrated but I really liked it.

I thought the site "scales" them. . . I've never adjusted my pics, I just upload in batches of 25 (as suggested in the posting of multiple option). . . and then they simply come out to 800x600 adjusted. I just checked several in the report so far, and all of them scaled to that, and look just beautiful (ie: no degradation when scaling). The 800x600 is a legacy rule, the site now does "scale" them. The only time the 800 x 600 submission is helpful for the moderating team is when members use the Park Index submission tool to add a photo to the Park Index.

Photo Trip Report: Worlds of Fun

JimmyBo - this must be your first new park in 5 years or so, and you still deliver a great story with your PTR At least Cedar Point left some of Worlds of Fun's soul. I really enjoyed my one trip to Worlds of Fun a few years ago. -

And because multiple people reported that they saw RMC employees at the park. And because the town council meeting plan had a layout that looked like a RMC wood coaster. So based on this your "fact" we know that the coaster will look like an RMC. That doesn't mean it will be an RMC. -

The Whip is the best ride in the park. -
When two parks in such close proximity (Ocean Park and Hong Kong Disney) both have over 10% drops, that definitely speaks to the economics of the area. From 2014 - 2015 Hong Kong Disney showed a larger % drop. Looking at both parks 2014 -2016 Ocean Park down 24% Hong Kong Disney down 19% That's not a good 2-year trend for either park

I like the topics mentioned over the past two pages. It seems to me that many of the sun shades that are originally installed get removed. Out of the box thinking, it might work. I know for years John Fitzgerald was trying to find a magic bullet to keep people in the park longer. I wonder if something like this was every considered. I still think to fully capitalize bad weather days and Holiday in the Park Event (and possibly become year-round down the road) the park needs a little more to do indoors. It doesn't necessarily have to be rides, but I think you need the 4D theater back (or even convert it to show multiple movies), one more indoor ride and a decent show.

Dollywood Discussion Thread

Kentucky Kingdom... Is that you?? I'm surprised Lightning Rod and Lightning Run don't get confused more often, considering they're somewhat close geographically. I have an odd theory with the design of Lightning Rod's launch hill: I feel it was designed the way it was that if it had lots of problems, Dollywood and RMC could replace the launch with a chain lift over an offseason (while eliminating the short drop at the top of the first hill). I'm just glad I got to ride it. Maybe they can change the name to Flash in the Pan, so I don't mess up the name again. -
BOOM! You get my logic, however, it is not, because it does not feel like one. You would not come off and go, "possibly in my top three hypers" however, I feel it can work the other way around, so Ex G for me is my only and top hyper. It is how I imagine one to feel, so until I get on a real one, that is staying as my top hyper. Something is seriously wrong with you. There is no 200 foot drop. All mountain coasters have changes of elevation over 200 feet!
