The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread

Then many of TPR's younger posters should love it. -
Mi Tierra rocks! I agree with you on Casa Rio. Actually, I did not find any of the Tex/Mex on the Riverwalk to be very good.

JimmyBo and Family Cruise Over New Years

Did a game of Family Fued break out after you took the pictures around the piano? Glad you had a great New Year's Trip with the family. -
Eric - agreed SF claims they wanted to go in a family friendly direction and the new messaging (more flags guy) in broadcast ads did nothing to re-inforce a new direction. Before even considering seperate ads for each park, SF would be best served creating secondary messages that focus on the family friendly elements and run them only shows targeting mothers.

Hercules and Joey both make some good points. Here are a few of my jumbled thoughts. Just something for everyone to keep in mind is just because people like an ad campaign and its' characters or music this does not translate to success for an advertiser. Production costs for shooting multiple commercials are ridiculously expensive, that is how creative agencies make they money today. The "more flags guy" was doomed from the start. When the main character has 4 words to utter and no one can understand what he is saying, that's a bad thing. Keep in mind some actors hold advertisers hostage when a campaign becomes successful and demand huge salary increases that force campaign characters to disappear. Remember the "Dell Dude", "Chad - the Alltel guy that is now a cartoon" there are plenty of examples out there. With a character like Mr. Six at least this can potentially be neutralized as the actor is behind make-up and the actor can change. Six Flags certainly looks to be abandoning any hopes of targeting families through TV ads in bringing Mr Six back as he did creep out parents of small children in research groups. However, teens do love him.

Choice of a few theme parks...
larrygator replied to Hobbesx2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not voting since I've never been to SFoT. I prefer HW over VF, but I'd pick Indiana Beach over either in a heartbeat. Is IB within 8 hours of KC. -
Cedar Point in May, a good idea?

I've gone opening weekend (and the Monday) twice and had no problems with crowds. However, I think one of the weekdays was Physics day which is a nightmare for lines. -

^I agree that a demerger would be good, provided that the parks are currently turning a profit. However, capital expeditures (new rides) would probably suffer for a couple of years. -
My thoughts are to use 24 pages as your mock-up. 4 for the cover pages and 20 inside. You probably need to set aside 5 pages (plus the 3 covers) for ads and one page for the Table of Contents. That leaves you 14 pages for edit. I would set aside a total of 6 edit/picture pages for a feature on one park. That feature should be real in depth mentioning the park's coasters, unique rides, tips to navigate the park, suggested places to eat and local accomodations. Remaining 8 edit pages. 2 pages on new attractions throughout Europe 1 page letter from publisher/masthead 2 page interview with an industry expert 1 page for upcoming events Remaining 2 pages - well, I can't do the whole project for you. Good Luck

Dinosaur World would be sooooo awesome if they added a B&M. Maybe they can buy Led Zeppelin from Hard Rock Park's creditors. NOTE: There is not a hint of seriousness to this post. -
SFNO/Jazzland Discussion Thread

I'm sure SF is quietly negotiating a way out of the contract. However when the deal is settled as a public company, they will have a an obligation to announce the status (if not the specific details). -
I've never had such a situation. I always try to ride wooden coasters more than once in a day. If I go somewhere for an event I always try to ride a coaster before the event, just in case mechanical problems occur. It would have been very easy to not return to Balder after 3 hours of ERT, but I just had to go back later in the day and sample it in typical conditions.

John - that link to the YouTube recap was great. Theories, I have no idea. I don't the island moved back in time, just physically moved. Then again didn't the creators say that there wouldn't be any of this hocus pocus stuff that couldn't be easily explained. I'll just watch it and be entertained.

I can not give my perspective on this as I don't have all the details of what BPB objected to on the website. A corporation has a right to protect its business from statements that or untrue and malicious. I don't know what the website owners said that would incur legal action from BPB's lawyers. I'm not sure of the technicality of laws in the UK, but in the US laws can not be broken under the guise of "I can do whatever I want on my website or in cyberspace"? Were the lawyers heavy-handed? Possibly, as it is hard to fight a corporation's lawyers as an individual without legal resources. However, I'm not going to jump to conclusions and condone one side or the other without knowing the facts.

There is no right or wrong answer. I go semi-Olympic style. I use an average but throw out great rides that were casued by temporary conditions. For instance, some of the single greatest rides I have had are on Voyage at night (Holliwood Nights) and Balder in the morning for 3 hours of TPR ERT. Voyage would be my number one if I solely based my ranking on those night rides, but that is a special instance. I liked my daytime rides and still rank it highly, just not #1. Balder was incredible during ERT, yet rides later in the day (with a 30-40 minute wait) were just as incredible. Now with Boulder Dash, I've been on it dozens of times and I notice a considerable difference in the way the coaster runs throughout the day (and I know some experts who completely disagree with me on this). Late in the day it is a Top 5 coaster for me, but it is not nearly as good earlier in the day. Therefore in my rankings it sits below all the other wood coasters that I think give a strong consistent ride any time of day. I'd like to think that my rankings are credible. If I tell someone that this is the #1 coaster it should be an experience that the average Joe can experience on a average day at any time.

^Although this doesn't vary much from factory work. "The only work open to women consists of tracing the characters on clear celluloid sheets with Indian ink and filling in the tracings on the reverse side with paint according to directions." -

Showing old creative to people in focus groups is standard practice and means nothing. Don't read too much into this Screamscape tidbit. It will be difficult to bring back a character that scares small children if the target audience for SF remains families.
