  1. http://www.wantchinatimes.com/news-subclass-cnt.aspx?id=20140622000001&cid=1202 Readers of this thread might find this article interesting. 59 theme parks to be built in China by 2020 China is slated to build 59 theme parks and five water parks by 2020 with total investments of US$23.8 billion, expected to attract 166.3 million people, a scale far exceeding the United States and Japan, Chinese-language Beijing Business Today reports, citing global engineering firm AECOM. The market is relatively immature, however, compared to the US and Japan, and most of the nation's theme park developers focus more on the value of the enclosed land for the parks. From 2012-2013, 14 theme parks opened offices in China, AECOM said. According to the firm's statistics the US has fewer than 40 theme parks, Japan has more than 30, while China has 40 times the amount of the two countries combined. Most of the construction focuses on the model of "parks plus properties," aiming partially to develop the property market. Chinese theme parks received 180 million of tourists in 2013, up 6% from 2012. By 2025, the nation's theme parks could receive 320 million tourists, surpassing the US, according to statistics from the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA). According to an unnamed executive of a property and hotel management company in Hainan, the 1990s was the peak of China's theme park development, with more than 2,500 theme parks being completed from 1990-1994, but over the past 10 years, 80% of the theme parks closed down, resulting in economic losses of 300 billion yuan (US$48 billion). Currently, only 10% of the surviving theme parks are profitable, 20% are breaking even, while 70% of them are losing money. Tourism industry insider Xu Fan said less than 10% of China's theme parks are profitable. It costs lots of money and requires a long period of investment before any returns to develop a theme park. China typically sets a profit return period of two to three years for a theme park, faster than the six to eight years taken internationally. Theme parks, therefore, ignore the importance of regular transformation, which creates a vicious cycle of theme park development.
  2. Do you have a source? I don't recall seeing anything official about this specific agreement.
  3. ^I thought you had to have Cleveland before the deadline, but it looks like that's only the deadline to buy the special shops. Or am I not understanding it properly.
  4. The game finally stopped kicking me out, but there is no hope for me to get Pop Star Cleveland I need 12 more hair gels and buying the upgrade salon only drops a hair gel every 8 hours, not enough time left for that.
  5. I know right, shipping a gigantic roller coaster overseas seems like it'd be ridiculously expensive Shipping by ocean is relatively cheaper per mile than transit by truck when it comes to large items. Just consider how many truck are need to transport the pieces. I'm not saying that is the only factor at play here. If the track is being fabricated overseas there is a good business reason for it.
  6. Wooden coasters run faster after rain and in warm weather. Locking the thread as there is no real discussion to be had here.
  7. I hope that it is fixed on time as I'll be there for a school trip on Tuesday.
  8. I've never seen a Harry Potter movie (nor read a book), but find this experience interesting.
  9. Happy to hear that it reopened last night. I'll try again next week.
  10. I called the park today before I left work at 3PM and confirmed Thunderbolt was running. As I approached the coaster at 4:10 the coaster was running with passengers. When I got to the coaster's ticket booth at 4:15 it had just closed and someone was pulling down the gate closing the ride. O for 3 so far.
  11. Normally you might not have to wait for more than a train or two max. But Saturday June 21st, is the Mermaid Parade, Coney Island is very busy during this event so all bets are off on wait times.
  12. For those driving to and from Knoebels June 20th - 23rd, please be aware of major construction if you normally exit at Danville and replan your route accordingly using the Bloomsburg exit. https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/t1.0-9/10487592_10154226047650551_773913302704556887_n.png
  13. I just called the park before stopping on the way home. Thunderbolt is day to day right now. The person I spoke with suggested calling before heading to the park. Just a heads up. As this is Zamperla's new showpiece, I'm sure they are working diligently to get it up and running.
  14. Unnecessary thread. We DO NOT want to see threads like this pop up for every roller coaster!!!
  15. I stopped by on the way home at around 4:30 and I got the feel that it would not open. I didn't bother to even ask anyone. I'll try again later this week.
  16. Cheapest parking is in paid spot where there used to be meters but now you have to walk to a kiosk (which takes cash or credit card) get a ticket and put that paid parking ticket on your dashboard, but you might have to return to refill as not all machines allow for more than 2 hours of parking. There are some spots on the street a block or two away, but they can be hard to find with alternate side of the street parking rules. The parking signs also don't always make perfect sense. Parking tickets run about $50 in New York and you will be ticketed if parked illegally. 4 hours is plenty of time on the wristband at Luna Park. Most rides should be walk-ons as public elementary and middle schools have not let out let. Then again you might get stuck on a day where a public school or two takes a field trip to Coney Island. Although you might not need 4 hours at Luna Park, you could spend more time at Coney Island with the other attractions not on the Luna Park wristband. Deno's WonderWheel park has the iconic WonderWheel and SpookHouse (and a kiddie coaster) Scream Zone has three coasters when you count Thunderbolt. There are a few independent rides like Saturn 6, El Dorado bumper cars and the restored B&B Carousell that are worth trying if you like that type of stuff. To get the whole Coney Island experience try Totonnos Pizza at 1524 Neptune Avenue (they only sell whole pies and it is cash only). And if you are a real credit whore don't forget the Wacky Worm at Adventurers FEC which is only one exit away on the highway.
  17. I'll probably give it a go on Monday after school on my way home.
  18. I spy, Sheriff Academy (Desperados) at the park. Now I'm super jealous.
  19. I didn't remember that but I do remember the McDonalds at Ocean Park. Shaka Shaka Seaweed Fries Luna Park (Coney Island) now has White Castle in the park.
  20. I'm only making up for the items that were already taken away. I'm not even sure if it is going to work. And it didn't work, the game wouldn't kick me out. So I still need a giraffe.
  21. I'm only making up for the items that were already taken away. I'm not even sure if it is going to work.
  22. Four more giraffes to go, I think I'm going to manipulate the game kicking me out to my advantage. I kicks me out when I tap too many characters in succession, when it kicks me out it ignores the last minute of activities I have done. So when I return to see if Quagmire gave me a giraffe, I'll only tap his house. If a giraffe drops I'll wait a minute for it to register, then I'll move on the Chris. If Chris doesn't drop a giraffe, I'll tap all the characters, get kicked out. Then when I return Quagmire's giraffe will be banked and I'll tap on Chris again. I'll repeat until I get a giraffe from Chris.
