  1. Unless we have access to the financial records of SFMM we wont be able to determine if this has a positive or negative effect on the bottom line, but since the company is billions in debt they have shown they dont know how to operate there business in a profitable manner and a few quarters that they make a little money doesnt constitute a recovery. It would be nice too see a breakdown to see how much profit each individual park actually made this year. But what other major park chains give away there gate so cheaply?? And while this will bring in larger crowds it does little to make the guest experience any better if the park is so busy that you have to wait hours for most rides. I dont know SFMM that well, but when i visit my local SF park i spend little money beyond the season pass admission. I eat outside the park most of the time because the food is medicore at best and bring in my own water/munchies due to the overpricing of items in the park. The souvenirs are also not that good, so money i want to spend on them goes unspent because i find little to buy. This affects the bottom line and when you talk to other people(escpecially familie) at the park who do likewise and then see the mass exodus of people at lunch time leaving to eat elsewhere you realize the park loses alot of money that could otherwise be made by not giving away the store at the gate but try to make up for it by overcharging for food/soda etc.
  2. I wonder if the park just put that sign there as a safty precaution. While Wisc. is over-regulated i wonder if they would pass a law for one row of seats on one roller coaster ride.
  3. I wish i was going as this is a great event, and if you go on non-weekend nights i found the lines to be very short. We havent found any of the lines to be more than 5-10 minutes(that is going on tuesday/thursday)and with the excellant shows/parades/fireworks/cookies etc it makes for a great evening.
  4. Im sure the current managment doesnt want to lose there job which isnt surprising. And while a change at the top could be good at the top, there is no evidence that snyder and his cronies have the expertise to run theme parks. Making alot of money out of a awful football team where you have a monoply doesnt mean you can run theme parks that are spread out all over the country in competition with other aggressive companies.
  5. You could always go visit Art Bell who lives in the city!!
  6. Its is a awesome ride and great POV!!! The ride has great speed and airtime no matter where you sit on the ride. And with that park/mini golf center not being busy you can get numerous rides and they dont make you get off, so numerous re-rides. I found the ride to be more enjoyable than Hades which is also a excellant ride, but maybe the fact i rode it so often compared to Hades affected my viewpoint.
  7. Nye World could bring tourists CONTINGENT HEADED TO ATLANTA FOR CONVENTION By PHILLIP GOMEZ Nye County and the Town of Pahrump are seriously looking into the possibility of bringing a Six-Flags-over-Nye-style amusement park to Pahrump - an Area-51, sci-fi themed park owned and operated by the county. The Nye County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday voted to send one of its members, Commissioner Patricia Cox, and the county's economic development director Ann Barron to Atlanta to attend a week-long trade show and convention, Nov. 14-19, put on by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. The association is the world's leader in connecting buyers and suppliers in the amusement park industry. Amusement parks, zoos, aquariums, museums, water parks and resorts are represented. The expo is billed as "the one marketplace where amusement and attractions industry leaders, decision makers and visionaries gather to view and explore new amenities for their facilities." More than 1,100 participants are expected to display their exhibits within 1 million gross square feet. The estimated attendance at this year's expo is 28,000. The trade show, closed to the general public, is open to its more than 5,000 individual members, amusement park-type facility operators and suppliers. The association supports the industry through programs to improve efficiency, marketing and profitability, while maintaining high professional standards. More than 60 daylong seminars are offered on various aspects of the amusement industry, offering attendees opportunities for developing new ideas to take home with them, according to the association's Web site, www.iaapa.org. The town of Pahrump is sending town board member Laurayne Murray to the expo with the county's representatives. Kulkin first floated the idea for Nye World about a year and a-half ago as a way to make the county more independent of tax revenue and federal grants. He has been working on demonstrating its feasibility ever since. If Nye World ever comes to pass, the theme park would hardly be an original idea, though it might be a moneymaking one. The United States is home to more theme parks and family-oriented entertainment centers than any other county in the world. More than 50 years ago, Disneyland inaugurated the idea with its travel-fantasy themed rides, spawning Six Flags Over Texas in 1961 and some 29 other Six Flag knockoff parks around the nation. Closer to home, Buffalo Bill's Wild West Resort opened in 1994 in Primm, a western-themed hotel-casino 40 miles west of Las Vegas on the California border. It features a 210-foot "super coaster," reportedly the world's tallest. Two years ago, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority opened a new visitor information center in Primm, just off Interstate 15 next to Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas. webmaster@pahrumpvalleytimes.com Copyright © Pahrump
  8. The link also didnt work for me.
  9. I also found the show to be very interesting and informative. And you have to give kudo's to the people working on the coaster who dealt with some awful weather!
  10. The last coaster i rode was Raging Bull at SFGAM, and sadly it will likely be the last coaster i ride till April of next year(grr)
  11. I just added my info. Im from Milw., known for our Beer and the City Made famous by the "Crusher"!!
  12. Glad to hear you had a great time and let us know when the pictures are ready!!
  13. I was at DL several years ago during the first week of Dec. and had a excellant time. The park wasnt that busy during the week or on Friday(didnt go Sat/Sun). The christmas decorations are great as is the x-mas parade/Its a small world and Mansion holiday decorations. So i would recommend going to DL in early Dec.(the same for wdw/universal also). The parks do a great job putting you in the x-mas mood.
  14. I dont think gun violence has anything to do with the availability of guns. When we have deer hunting in Wisc. and hundreds pf thousands of people hit the woods, all with guns and we dont have murders/robbery's/carjackings etc. The bottom line from dealing with it on a daily basis is that there is a segment of our society that is human debris and they are the one commiting crimes with guns and if these people didnt have guns they would use other tools to commit there crimes. And if we would get rid of them all of society would be better. Sadly with the current criminal justice system there is little done so the problems get worse and the human debris procreate at a higher rate and which makes for a endless supply of the criminal element that will use guns to harm people and not for sporting purposes.
  15. While i would love to get a new coaster in the park, what i think the park needs is a interactive dark ride that can be enjoyed by the whole family rather than another coaster with a 54" height limit which it seems is all they add lately. And he park isnt blessed by a lot of empty space so i wonder if they would tear a coaster out to add a new one??
  16. http://drkssk.fc2web.com/zekkyou/local/maru/loopcork/loopcork.html I stole the above link from rrc and was wondering if anone here(like Robb/Elissa) have ridden this coaster and what park it might be in. It seems very unique.
  17. I think for at least 2 to 3 weeks before the regular season ended AE blue has been down and you could see one of the blue trains on the side of the coaster torn apart, it started when the park went to weekend only operation and i know somewhere on the net i have also seen photo's of this.
  18. Excellant photo's!!!
  19. The blue side of AE has been down for awhile and isnt suppossed to open this season. And DV is also supposed to be closed for the rest of the year but i havent found out why that is/what the problem is. Great photo's, im looking forward to my visit this friday!!
  20. I think the competition in the Dells is very tough. You have major competitors in the Kalahari/Wilderness and even others like the Polyensian/Chula Vista and in summer the hotel connenected to Mt Olympus as well as alot of smaller ones that offer good deals for the money. I think they under-estimated how tough ot would be in this marketplace.
  21. I didnt really get into riding roller coasters/visiting Theme parks till i was in my mid 20's. Now it is something i do often with my wife(who tolerates SF type parks but likes wdw/USF)and kids who benefit from my older life obession. But while i talk ablout it at work etc. i usually only visit parks with family or by myself and i dont let it out that i am a theme park geek. Though im sure other family members among themselves talk about it and question my sanity.
  22. I would say im the" Raging Bull" because it just implies sexual carnage as you ram it on home!
  23. Very funny, the girl;s did a great job!!! How come there arent any girls like these at any ACE events??(lol)
  24. Well, i for one wasnt offended and found the pictures funny!! People need to lighten up.
  25. So which one of you did it with 2 guys on a ride???(lol) And nice addition to your site!
