  1. I just heard the news about MJ's death. Totally unexpected.
  2. ^ Kings Dominion is owned by Cedar Fair, not Six Flags. Besides why would Cedar Fair copy a company that's currently in bankruptcy?
  3. So you're trying to trick us, eh? OK, then. Is it a VHS tape reel?
  4. I guess this answers my question. It looks like it's almost certainly a lift hill.
  5. Could someone explain to me why these rides are such a maintenance nightmare?
  6. OK... back on topic. Twister II got it right. It's his turn.
  7. Does anybody know if this thing is going to have a launch or a traditional lift hill?
  8. ^One problem. Gigas are expensive in terms of materials.
  9. ^I'm pretty sure he did that intentionally.
  10. My downstairs still smells like wet carpet.
  11. We have a winner!
  12. I sure do like watching television.
  13. None, thankfully.
  14. We just had about 4 inches of rain and right now I'm standing on soaking-wet carpet with a shopvac trying to clean it up. Any questions?
  15. No, I didn't ride it. But then again, I wasn't being serious when I called it "boring". I'm sure it's a fun ride.
  16. The flyback transformer for my plasma speaker, IT'S ALIVE!!!
  17. ^^It's fairly intense. I cannot see Kidtums riding it.
  18. Sorry, but she actually died last year. www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,340332,00.html
  19. OK, here's the deal. I had a tour of Penn State scheduled for Monday, so I convinced my family to stop at Lakemont Park for a few hours on Sunday, since you literally have to go right past it on the way to State College. Unfortunately, we were pressed for time, so I didn't get as many pictures as I had hoped. At any rate, here's my review of the place: Coasters: Leap The Dips: OMG, for being the world's oldest coaster, this thing is freaking ridiculous! There are absolutely not restraints to hold you in, and you can literally feel the car lift up on the dips. While this ride is not intense, it's definitely scary! It feels less like a coaster and more like a runaway go-kart! Skyliner: I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The first drop has some nice floater on it, and the rest of the ride was relatively smooth and fast paced. Overall, it was a decent woodie with no real problems, but at the same time it wasn't anything that special, either. Toboggan: What can I say? It's a Chance Toboggan. It's boring, painful, and the lift hill smells funny. They have a Kiddie coaster there, but I'm too big to ride it. Flats: I didn't get to ride too many flats, so I'm not going to comment on them. Food: I did not have a good experience with their food services. They screwed up my order, and the coke they gave me was flat. General: - The park was absolutely empty. According to the staff, it's like that all the time except for dollar days, so I have no idea how this park stays afloat. - I'm not sure, but the place appeared to be understaffed. Alright, I think I covered basically everything. Let's move on to the photos. Well, it has a few problems, but ultimately Lakemont Park receives my seal of approval! Thanks for reading. BTW, they have a train - with almost no one on it. BAD IDEA! I became nauseous and had to sit down for a while. Next, someone convinced me to ride the Tilt-a-whirl. This midway is also where their kiddie coaster is. And this monstrosity called "Twister". I did not ride it because I was still recovering from my encounter with the Toboggan. After getting raped by the Chance Toboggan, I stumbled out onto a midway full of strange, old rides, like the Monster wannabe in the background... "OH GOD!" "Noooooo!" Toboggan: "Too late, you're already on me. Muhahahahaha!" "No, I won't ride you just to get the credit. You can't make me!" "Oh god, what is that?!" They had one of those gas powered car rides, which we rode. Skyliner THROUGH THE TREES!! Moneyshot. Thankfully, it wasn't. See how empty the train is? Yeah, it was like that all day. Skyliner is a relocated wooden coaster, so I was afraid it was going to be rough. After riding Leap The Dips a few times, we went over to the park's second major coaster, Skyliner. Here's the "Dips" part. Thankfully, there is no "Leap" part, although I did feel the front end lift up a few times. Leap The Dips has a very interesting and very questionable lift hill. Before there were drive tires, before stations were sloped downhill, there were ride ops, and muscle. This is the car. They only run one at a time because it tends to get stuck from time to time. Like I said, the only thing it has are handle bars; no restraints. BTW, the ride op in the background - he's a real ride op. He actually has to pull a lever to stop the car! "Don't worry, Mr. ACE plaque. I think you matter. Sort of." The plaque that doesn't. The plaque that matters. Ah yes, the real reason I'm here. I kind of wanted to ride the Monster, but time wouldn't permit it. Right next to the Skydiver is this boring, non-oscillating chair swing. One of the first rides to greet you is this Chance death machine, the Skydiver. It wasn't running, and being carsick meant I probably wouldn't have rode it even if it was. One of the most striking things I noticed upon entering the park is that it's essentially empty. This is the view from the front entrance. It's also basically the entire park. We're here!
  20. Here's an easy one.
  21. You know, this is an interesting point. Everyone knows I'm in the Six Flags Hater camp--but, honestly, I wouldn't want any of the parks to go away. What I would like to see--and this isn't just Six Flags--is more parks going back to being independent (or at least smaller chains). That's probably not realistic. But, still, is there anything inherently good about "Six Flags" that you would miss if all the parks magically got sold to different individuals? You're right, that's definitely not realistic. In recent years, the general trend in the amusement industry has been consolidation (take Kennywood Entertainment's merger with Parques Reunidos, for instance). That's not likely to change anytime soon. It's a shame that SF had to file for chapter 11, but honestly, most of us saw this one coming years ago. What is amazing is how long they managed to put it off. On a more positive note, I went to Lakemont Park today and am currently staying in a Sleep Inn in State College.
  22. I'm going to Lakemont Park on Sunday.
  23. It's a cyclotron.
  24. When they did the rolling stock restoration back in 2000 (I think) they had them, and they only lasted a season or 2, the wear and tear was just too great. But this was before the advent of cheap LEDs and Li-Io batteries. I'd like to see them try it again. I think the lights were restored in 1998 for the park's centennial season. They removed them a year later after a minor collision because they didn't hold up well to the ride's vibrations.
