An Upgraded TPR Forum Coming Soon!

Any company working off of Internet Explorer 6 should upgrade immediately. There are so many vulnerabilities, let alone visual in-capabilities of the browser. Hell, look at the Google in China fiasco... http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/news/article/0,289142,sid14_gci1378911,00.html -

I was talking about adding those two snippets to the CSS class named "postBody" I'm a professional webdesigner (check the link in my signature), so I'm constantly playing with CSS and HTML formatting... forum templating is simply using CSS and HTML templates. -

From looking at the HTML of the page, it looks like the tag for the body of the post (class: postBody) just needs to have "height: 100%;", along with "vertical-align: top;" added to it, for the white border to be stretched the entire height of the box... -

Should be easily switched in the themes .css file. -

^ The "harshness" would be from switching the font from Verdana to Trebuchet MS, which isn't smoothed as nicely using ClearType. -

A few things I would suggest... - 1-pixel border around avatars... I always think it looks cleaner when avatars have borders to them, it keeps things less "random" looking to me. - Increase text size of user names on the post... Right now, the user names are set at what looks like 10pt font, along with the rest of the information. I think that it would look better, and more easily decipherable if it were made larger. -

Or it could fit red by looking at: Earnhardt's 1998 Coke Japan Car: -- or -- Earnhardt's 2000 Taz Car: Both of which what Cedar Fair was obviously going for... -
No fog, eh? Hmmm.... That's why right there. They aren't going to waste their money pumping out a crapload of fog on a day that is really windy. They cut back significantly when there is a decent amount of wind. We went about 3 weeks ago on a Friday, and like stated above, the waits are TINY. The day was perfect, as there was almost no wind, the fog machines were pumping like crazy in every house and zone. It was one of the best Halloweekends I've been to at Cedar Point.

No it doesn't. Trucking companies use routes. They don't send trucks down to a park in Kentucky to retrieve parts for a park. Look at trucks on the interstate next time you're on it, there are plates from everywhere, that doesn't mean that the load it's taking is going to the location of the license plate.

Odd looking supports

That coaster is Tornado at Parque de Atracciones de Madrid... Both loops are supported the same, and the overall coaster looks way "over supported" -

Already been brought up before... likely that the "/stats" subdirectory is just a protected section for just website stats. A few of the sites I've worked with have the /stats/ administrative section. Nothing to see there. -

New blog wants to thank it's sponsors... Yet on the linked sponsors page shows a logo for "Crystal Rock Bottling Company" which links to... http://www.whytelightning.com Which everyone knows... "Lightning strikes twYce..." Looks like we've found the name for both Carowinds and Cedar Points new rides. -
Waldameer Park Questions
CoasterLine replied to LJGoBlue's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ravine Flyer 2 from day and night are like totally different rides... both equally as awesome, but night rides get faster, and the tunnels seem longer, and more unexpected. X-Scream may not look that tall, but due to the parks hillside location, when you're near the top, all you can see is the peninsula and the drop is really good. POP bands are def. the way to go if you want to ride more than 4 rides. Hell, one ride alone on RF2 is $4.50 worth of tickets. This Saturday shouldn't be that bad crowd wise, as there are a lot of festivities down the road (Roar on the Shore) so less crowds will be at Waldameer. Don't miss anything at the park... it's easy to do everything at least two times, and it's a great little park. -

The new track style might require less support, but it requires more track metal, in essence equaling itself out cost wise. It is more useful to less support columns around, but the track itself requires a more rigid and built up structure, thus not really eliminating much in cost. You're basically just trading one off for the other. It will be quicker to assemble, and requires less footer work, but still requires roughly the same amount of metal by having the rigid spines. You might save a little, but not enough to say "damn, we should have been doing this all along..." -

I don't really think that vertical lifts would save money, at all. You can consider less support, but then you have to beef up supports on vertical sections as all the load is on those, rather than spread out... I would assume it would probably equal itself out in the way of cost... However, the benefit of gaining all the space that a 45 degree lift would take up would be tremendous. -

How do you know those "supports for stairs" are not actually supports for an elevator (ala Millennium Force's lift elevator)? -
Millennium Force Cable
CoasterLine replied to CPmaverick's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I really don't see anyway how the cable snapping can be linked with the catch car not engaging, they are completely separate ideas and implementations... The lift is simple. There are two cables on the ride. One attaches at the head of the catch car assembly, and it's primary function is to pull the catch car up, and over the lift. There is another cable that connects to the foot of the catch car which is responsible for stopping the catch car as it goes over the lift, and to pull it back down to the station. If the reverse cable snapped mid-lift, the pull cable would still do it's job and pull the catch car (and train) up and over the lift. However, once the catch car crests the lift, without the reversing cable connected, the catch car becomes like a coaster train itself, and just keeps going down the lift until it just de-rails itself out of the catch car channel, as it is open-ended. What confuses me is that I would think there should be some computer sensor that would have detected a loss of tension in the reversing cable, actually in both cables, that would cause an immediate e-stop had there been a tension loss. This however wouldn't help if the cable snapped as the ride was cresting the hill, and there is nothing that could have possibly be done. I'm pretty sure that this is the first time that the reversing cable has snapped, as it really doesn't heed the forces and strain that the lifting cable does, only really pulls the catch back down the lift to the station. -
Millennium Force Cable

You really can't tell if there is any damage from that far away... there could be structure cracks in the track pieces that the catch car jammed into while falling... it's all a guessing game on our part. You can't tell until you are up there and see. -

Ouch. Hopefully there isn't too much damage to the catch car or the track. -
