  1. I've had painful rides on Magnum before, but it mainly comes from lap bars or seat belts that are too loose. Regardless, from my experience, ride in the second row of any car and you'll be fine and the ride will feel a lot smoother. It's a ride that is nearly 30 years old and still packs a punch. Avoid the "wheel" rows (1 and 3) and you're good as gold.
  2. Track lift postponed again (high winds). Looks like we'll see that tomorrow (according to Tony)
  3. Look like flat turns to me. Likely the turn at the top of the lift. Diameter of the new supports in the staging lot look like they would be for the single column in the middle of the turn as well. We'll see.
  4. He posted later that it was a "false alarm," just supports today. Track will likely go up tomorrow morning.
  5. I'm thinking that the turn and first drop will likely be placed after the Immelman and turn into the midcourse brakes are placed. This would allow the crane to move through to that section. I assume that this section of the lift will probably be last lift component added until that's done, since the only other support sections for the lift is a singular column directly under the turn. At that point after that section is done, the rest of the ride falls on the other side of the drop so they can roll the crane wherever they need it at down Perimeter Road.
  6. The lift hill piece will more than likely be going up tomorrow. Support 1 of 3 on the lift hill is completed on the ground and waiting to be lifted, then that piece will go up. Following that section, we will probably see them place the supports / track for the post-immelman turn, since that area is located nearly directly in front of the crane at the moment.
  7. You mean something like this? Valravn Construction Progress as of 11/18/2015
  8. If you consider re-routing Perimeter Road, you could add 180,517 sqft with the removal of the Dorms. Considerable amount of space to work with. Dorms area before. Dorms area considering re-routing Perimeter Road
  9. The only possible way I could see the ride ever being removed from the park is if the entirety of the "final report" comes to light that the accident was caused 100% by the computer / operations system. At that point, you could see lawsuits from Alton Towers / Merlin against Gerstlauer for liability, damages, etc. to recoup the money invested into a faulty product. At this point, there really isn't much suggesting that this was anything other than human / user error. That being the case, unless there was a huge backlash from the public and subsequent loss of profit or drop in attendance because the "ride is still there", there is no reason for them to remove the ride and lose that much of an investment. Economically, there is literally zero to gain by removing it.
  10. The "Good Time Theater" is closing for "future expansion": https://www.cedarpoint.com/blog-article/online-fun/The-Curtain-Closes We’ve just announced that over the winter months, we’ll be removing the Good Time Theatre from the park. We can’t tell you all the details, but we’ll need that space for future expansion. Originally opened in 1975 as the Cedar Point Cinema featuring IMAX movies, it was converted into The Good Time Theatre in 2002 with the debut of “Snoopy Rocks! On Ice.”
  11. If I'm not mistaken they repainted the station. I am assuming everything will be happening under the current station. Why go from above when there is so much room under the stations currently to just hoist up and install from there. The track won't change, only maybe brakes, sensors, different mechanisms for locking and unlocking the harnesses, etc.
  12. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions! We ended up going to the park on Friday and despite a little bit of rain, which only stopped the rides at one point through the day, it was a perfect day in the park. The rain actually caused us to ride Blazing Fury which we weren't planning to do originally. Bought the Q2Q q-bot, and it was well worth the $20/person. Ended up waiting no longer than 2-5 minutes for all rides, though everything turned into a walk-on the last hour of the day as more rain moved in. Wild Eagle, Thunderhead, and Firechaser are even better in the rain! Also, thanks for the multiple suggestions about the cinnamon bread and other food. Ended up getting one in the park, then buying two more "loaves" to take with us, and grabbed some fried green tomatoes for the walk out to our car. We loved the park, and it was definitely worth the 10-hour drive from NW Pennsylvania. The area was great and full of good attractions, great views/nature, and southern hospitality, even with some of the cheesy "touristy" areas. Thanks everyone!!
  13. For what it's worth, when at the park on Friday and looking at the ride, The entire lift hill, turn, drop and most of the loop was painted, but the trim area (trim and track around it) weren't painted... Could be waiting on that part, or could be waiting for it to be removed, either way I really don't think it's an issue.
  14. Me and my girlfriend are looking to take our first trip to Dollywood on either October 10th or the 11th. So my questions are, during the Fall which day is better to go on, Friday or Saturday? Also, any recommendations on hotels around the park that are better than others? Thanks in advance guys!
  15. Oh no, Millenium Force is gone, Power Tower is gone, Top Thrill Dragster is gone... Cedar Fair is "Geauga Lake-ing" Cedar Point!
  16. There isn't much left. Here is a more recent fly-over from April that shows RWB completely gone. It's very strange to watch and piece together what it used to be. Very sad.
  17. I would love for Mantis to get a re-paint and go back to the Banshee name, though it is too close to KI to ever do that. Though I do think the floorless trains are coming. I do agree with the new haunt near Gatekeeper. Would be a good additional spot since there are no longer any haunts in that area of the park since DT has been demolished. For the picture with Mean Streak. I think that was just thrown in there to get peoples hopes up, only to be disappointed with another year of rough brain damage.
  18. Robb, I apologize. I wasn't trying to insult anyone, and I like both designs a lot. The things I pointed out weren't things I felt that were wrong (in the slightest), just some things I noticed that might have not been noticed by those working on the design (such as the fonts), as using a device with these fonts, you might not know or be able to notice. If I insulted anyone with my notes, I apologize completely. It was not my intention in the slightest, nor was I trying to say that I know any more than anyone else. I love both designs and feel they are a great on an already great website.
  19. As a web developer by trade here are a few things I noticed "technically" with the design itself (that really aren't a big deal, but can be noted maybe for consistancy): NOTE: None of these critiques or notes should be taken harshly, or as me saying that something is wrong at all. Just my "oh man, this guy is a douche" disclaimer Option #1: The twitter feed actually expands behind the content below, so the scroll bar on it can get lost below the content. I've done some custom work with Twitter API's and maybe using something outside of the "Twitter" standard widgets could be used instead of this to create more of a dynamic feel for the site? I could provide some examples if desired. Both Designs: I see you are trying to use "Futura-CondensedLight-Normal" as both the navigation bar font, as well as the "Disclaimer" font. As this isn't a standard font for users, if the user doesn't have the font downloaded and installed, it will show up as "Courier," which is starkly different than Futura (sans-serif, compared to the serif font of Courier). I'd suggest using @font-face kits, or a Google Web Fonts for any "custom" non-"web standard" fonts, so all users see the same fonts in areas of the website. Kind of goes with the above, but I would modify the end of page "These pages are..." statement to not be Times New Roman, as the rest of the site uses sans-serif fonts. I like the social icons being used in the header of the website, a lot. Some of the icons, though, appear outdated, as they are older-style social icons. This is more of a matter of taste, but more flat-icons or using current icons would be more appealing to me personally. The search button and search field seem a bit misaligned to each other, or at least do to me in Chrome. For the sliders, rather than have them hidden/shown, I would design it more than the slides are either moved forward/backwards using z-index, or slide into view with overflows on the blocks hidden, so that when slides contain a YouTube video/embed, the video doesn't flicker or appear after the slide is moved to as it does currently with the slides. My company has been sticking to the moving trend of making sure designs are completely responsive to all screen-sizes, so it appears that site conforms to any device/screen resolution that the person might be viewing on. While this is something we do, another option to do is a viewport tag, so that mobile devices are sized correctly. This isn't anything necessary though. Now that I've listed out my... well, extreme anal critiques of the designs, I have to say that I like both designs a lot. I like this direction towards modernization a lot and both designs look great. I prefer Option #1 over #2, simply because the Twitter feed to me makes the design seem more dynamic, and like there is more activity going on on the homepage than Option #2. Great job!
  20. I was able to download the demo in about 2 minutes, but the demo and the main download are coming from different servers. The demo is being fed from fileburst.com where as the full-version is being fed from element5.com. Either the element5 servers are slow, or they are being overloaded. Either way, it's going to be worth the wait.
  21. I started the download at 9am (Eastern) this morning, and at 7 hours I am just now around the 65% mark of completion. These servers are crawling. My download speed keeps fluctuating, but it's rare to see it over 30KB/s and at times it's been dropping to around 5-6KB/s... And I am on a relatively fast connection, usually downing about 50-60MB/s. Really excited to play with this though. I didn't bother waiting for any of this discount talk. I've purchased NL1, as well as the "premium" update that was released down the line as well, and even offered to donate money to Ole a couple times throughout the years that NL2 has been in development, but was respectfully declined. I was more than happy to send my $100 on it's way for a program like this.
  22. You're wrong about how MF is slowed and stopped at the end of the ride. There are two sets of brakes on MF, both fixed position magnetic brakes (the first set of brakes before the slight right turn), and then a second set of release magnetic brakes (which acts as the "holding" brake right behind the unload station). There are no drive tires until the one single drive tire right behind the unloading station, which moves the train from holding to unload. The reason for the closure during rain, you are correct in that drive tires are the issue, as the train will slip on the drive tires (behind the unload and between unload and load). However, the trains are completely slowed and stopped by the magnetic brakes.
