  1. Medusa up north at SFDK is also buttery smooth. Scream is the only one that's in relatively rough shape.
  2. My guess is that they knew this week would be dead and wanted to at least try and bring in some money? We used the $35 friend deal today, but free would have certainly been better. Thats the point in offering the free friend day today, to get passholders to come to the park, bring their friends, and hopefully they'll buy concessions and upcharges. I got them back! Kinda surprised I only had to wait a half hour after the park closed. That's very good to hear/know. If I'm running the park I'd like to put some kind of emphasis on prompt retrieval of items (at least important things like keys or phones as opposed to a hat or something). If guests know it's relatively easy to get them back, they might be less inclined to risk their life to get them on their own. (Not at the expense of more important things, and not that the park should have to - but as a general rule any time less people die, that's better, and it's easier than attempting to cure stupid.) I learned after losing my phone at Great Adventure... Keys: twist the key chain around your belt loop so its attached Phone: in the car lol Actually if you want to bring your phone in but think it might fly out, I used to do a similar thing at SFDK (due to S:UF) when I had a small iphone. I had a small neoprene type fabric pouch that I zipped the phone into and I put a chain of key rings from the zipper of the pouch to my belt loop. Works kind of like a biker's wallet chain - if it comes out, it just dangles. I never actually had it come out though, and now that I have a larger phone I'm not even worried about it coming out.
  3. Wow, didn't know that about Sidewinder, sounds fascinating, looking forward to it!
  4. My suggestion? Buy it now and get it processed this year. Either buy from Michigan's Adventure or Cedar Point and that way you don't really have much risk involved. Buying now also gets you one visit this year, so you could buy it and already start making your money back by a visit to CP or MiA. That and its already processed so you don't have to stress about being screwed or not. Thats the one big risk - you have to process at the park you purchase the pass from, so if you buy CGA and don't go go CGA, you cant use the pass anywhere else..so definitely purchase at your home park and process there, then even if you dont make it to CGA it's not a total waste.
  5. I would definitely check out Knott's on the 13th. The park will be completely dead and there are plenty of great rides, even with the Ghostrider closure. Agreed. Make your own little West Coast Bash. Knott's is fantastic, in contrast to SFMM it's a lot more than just the coasters, it's a very nice park. That said though, Xcelerator, Silver Bullet, and Montezooma's Revenge are all amazing. Don't forget to eat at Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner and have some boysenberry pie. Should be pretty light crowds, doubt you will need a flash pass. Maybe 30-40min average wait at peak I'd estimate. Parking is easy, but does cost $20 USD per car. If you don't already have one from SF Mexico and you're planning on visiting more than one Six Flags park in los Estados Unidos this year, you may want to think about purchasing a Gold Season Pass, which gets you admission (and early entry to Magic Mountain) plus free parking to all Six Flags parks in the EEUU and Mexico (but not La Ronde in Canada).
  6. Ive gotten that popup for SFDK, and I got an email about it too.
  7. No kidding. You could definitely see the "Hades face" on them at the end of their first run.
  8. Yeah you hit the nail on the head. Someone else mentioned it a few pages back; Ghost Rider takes more punishment than practically any other coaster in the world considering the trains it has and the operation schedule of it's park. Given that I really hope it's option #1 as topper track can take way more punishment, but I tend to believe it will probably be #2. Maybe we'll hit the lottery and get topper + new trains.
  9. Very likely - there are some top notch coasters at SFMM. I'm excited for you! Your current top 5 are already some pretty great coasters. I think Twisted Colossus will probably knock one of those out though, possibly X2 if you like it. People tend to either really love it or not care for it.
  10. But then we wouldn't be getting a photo tour. I'll take the photo tour now and an improved ride later!
  11. That briefly occurred to me too, but I seriously doubt it. If they're closing it on the 8th they will probably have already started work, and if we're doing a backstage tour they can't have it running while we're back there, and they certainly wont have it running during park hours, so I doubt it..but like you said, that's ok. I didn't expect it to be open anyway because they always close it this time of year for annual rehab. I've never done a backstage tour either, so that's even better and I'm looking forward to coming back and riding it after it's done and hopefully no longer rough or as rough.
  12. WOW, they actually used Olympia Looping in episode 104! Pleasantly surprised to see something like that make it onto a main stream TV show. Looks to be Robb's footage so if you're to thank for that Robb, thank you Instead of Olympia Looping though the hosts get to ride Hades 360..thats a serious best-to-worst turn right there.
  13. It should be a pretty healthy crowd but nothing crazy. Viper, Revolution, Riddler, Green Lantern, Lex Luthor.
  14. I have the same problem, I keep going to Knott's every year in early Sept and it's always closed. Consequently to date I've only ridden it twice. Photo tour is even better though, then I can't wait to get my next lap in when it's refurb'd.
  15. I don't think the RMC employees working at SFDK for the last week would find that funny.
  16. Seriously doubt you'll need a flash pass that day. Some schools are still out but some are in, and there's no event that day. Crowds should be very manageable.
  17. Free water? Next thing you know guests will be wanting things like shade and clean restrooms. It's a slippery slope.
  18. Replacing a GCI with an RMC feels like it is an addition to me even though the # of coasters technically didn't go up. As much as I personally love ZacSpins, I don't think you'll see another one any time soon, especially with the S&S FreeSpin model available as a much more universally enjoyed (And I'm guessing probably cheaper) version of that kind of layout.
  19. It definitely isn't the roughest coaster ever, Mean Streak and Ghost Rider are both worse to me. I haven't ridden Hades 360 but from what I've seen it's a lot worse. Apocalypse is just rough enough so that you get no real joy out of it...it's not a fantastic layout. It was mediocre to begin with. At least Ghost Rider, though rougher, is a better layout so there's that redeeming quality.
  20. For KBF, the KBF hotel is obviously the most convenient and if you get a high floor noise level is sure to be low. Near SFMM my favorite is the Hilton Garden Inn because it's the closest and pretty nice, but a few blocks away are a couple others including a Courtyard that I've stayed at before that were just as nice.
  21. still want to get a gold flash pass for the WCB day, yea? how are lines? I wouldn't expect it to be terribly busy as it's just after they go back to weekend-only operation. If you really want to go nuts, thats your prerogative, but I doubt it will be necessary especially since we will have ERT on most of the coasters with the longest lines, and 2 of the ones that we don't have ERT on have single rider lines. SIVELTON2 - woohoo, see ya there!
  22. Oh nice, I didn't know that, re: TC I was just going by what another user here said as I haven't been to the park since TC opened. That actually makes the Platinum pass a better deal at least on busy days. I would recommend SIVEL TON2 just buy a WCB ticket though, then he can ride TC, X2, and YOLO with us all he wants for less than the price of the Flash Pass. He'll have a much better time and save money in the process. SIVEL TON2 if you're not familiar with it yet, the "ERT" or "Exclusive Ride Time" sessions before and after the park mean that the park is open only for attendees of the TPR event. There will only be a couple hundred people across the 4 or 5 rides open that time, so that means you can essentially just ride over and over...it's much better than a Flash Pass!
  23. Thats actually a really good point. For $60 (assuming you're still buying a season pass) you can buy a ticket to West Coast Bash which runs from 8:30am to 11:00pm on Saturday Sept. 12th. With that you get 2 hours before and after the park to ride 5 or 6 coasters with only other WCB attendees plus breakfast, lunch, Q&A with park management, and anything else Robb might think of between now and then. The coasters you can ride before the park opens are currently scheduled to be Twisted Colossus, F.ull Throttle, Goliath, Scream, and Lex Luthor (I know not a coaster). The ones open after the park closes for us will be Twisted Colossus, X2, Superman, Tatsu, and Viper. If you buy the WCB ticket, you can ride all of those as much as you want leaving only the coasters not mentioned to ride during normal hours so you shouldn't need a flash pass. You should buy it soon though, because tickets are close to selling out.
  24. Yeah for X2 and Twisted Colossus you have to pay for a single reservation for a one time skip the line pass. $10 per person per ride for X2 and $30 per person per ride for Twisted Colossus. I don't like that deal either, my advice is just do Twisted Colossus first in the morning before there's a line, and X2 you can either do first on another day or go to X2 at bout 4:30-5:00 in the afternoon. So many people ride it first that the line tends to shorten dramatically around that time.
