As long as we get the new B&M vest restraints, I think VR would be a great addition to that ride. For a small compact ride with not much of a view that would sure give it a refresh. I cant imagine having VR with the current restraints though, its rough enough as it is without not being able to see the turns coming.

That's exactly what they should and could do. SFDK does that quite effectively on Superman. (They do it for safety though since Superman UF has a nasty reputation for creating projectiles of everything) There's a bottleneck where you enter the queue at a narrow spot and they have an employee there at the entrance who visually inspects all guests entering the queue and anyone attempting to carry anything past that point is stopped and directed to the lockers. Doesnt stop 100% cause people sneak things, but it's very effective. MM should do the same on TC. Up north they have a bank of lockers next to the queue entrance, they'd clearly have to add one to TC somewhere in order to do this.

Yeah, Superman is definitely the worst coaster I've ridden for ejecting things from your pockets. The big launch over the top will shoot things out and if that doesn't work the barrel roll will dump the rest. I've found the front pants/shorts pockets are a pretty good place to put things you don't want to fly out. The restraints naturally hold the pockets shut and then during the barrel roll you're basically hanging by your knees so again nothing can come out of there. Still, when I remember to I usually put my phone in a little zipper pouch inside my pocket and then chain that to my belt loop just in case. With those stupid new plans that the wireless companies have now if I lose my phone I'd have to keep paying them for it in addition to buying a new one at full price. Something like this. I use a couple key chains to secure it to my belt loop in case it comes out of the pocket.

Matterhorn if you count Disneyland...for some reason I don't count DL rides as a kid in my head. Otherwise it was X at SFMM. -
whoa now, SFMM had at least two good wooden coasters. They just aged poorly. If Ghostrider doesn't hold up well at Knott's after the remodel; it may be just time to give up wooden coasters in California. Between the seismic building requirements, frequent earthquakes and our parks' year round operating schedules; they don't make a lot of sense. When you say two, which two do you mean, since there were three - Colossus, Psyclone, and Apocalypse. The only one of those that has aged poorly in my opinion is Apocalypse. Psyclone was more or less destroyed by the 94 quake, it just took several more years for the park to realize it. There's a 92 year old wooden coaster sitting on a beach in northern California that's still in great shape and operates nearly all year. Colossus was also still in relatively good shape for how old it was when it was closed too due to the fantastic workmanship used when building it, something it had in common with Giant Dipper. From what I heard on the Ghost Rider "mini tour" at last year's WCB it wasn't exactly the seismic requirements that doomed Ghost Rider, it was the city's overreaction and using far more wood than even the code required that caused the problems. There's also Grizzly at CGA which, though not very exciting, is still in fantastic shape now 30 years old and the other Giant Dipper in San Diego. It went from 1925 to 1976 and then was mostly rebuilt, but it's been running since 1990 and I rode it last year and it was a lot smoother than Apocalypse or Ghost Rider - both built later than it's remodel. Roar at SFDK was still pretty well before it was converted too. It had a rough first couple drops for a while, but the park had recently retracked it a couple of years ago and the last few rides I had on it were remarkably comfortable for a GCI of its age. I think the California woodie problems are caused more by a combination of bad construction and maintenance/preservation that isn't aggressive enough. In this, I think you're right - building and maintaining a wooden coaster in California isn't impossible, but perhaps the parks don't realize how much they are biting off when they build one. The coaster I'm really curious to study the aging of is Gold Striker. I'm curious to see what it's like in the next 5 or 10 years.

I didn't find Manhattan Express too painful, though no sane person would consider it anything but rough. If you ride everything and/or want credits then do it, it won't kill you. Desperado on the other hand I found extremely uncomfortable..probably the most painful coaster I've ever ridden, and I have an unusually high tolerance for rough rides. I had planned on 3 rides when I went by there and had already bought tickets, but after the second ride I tapped out and just ate the remaining tickets (figuratively.) At least Manhattan Express has a couple fun elements like the dive loop. Desperado really has no redeeming features, plus it's way out of the way. I wouldn't recommend it unless you just have to have the credit. Adventuredome is a must visit though. El Loco is the complete polar opposite of Desperado. Fun as hell and smooth as butter. I could ride it all day long! Canyon Blaster is really short and a bit rough, but as long as you're there it's a credit. -
It doesn't bother me that a lot of people don't like Green Lantern (the one at this park), coaster opinions are mostly subjective and not everyone likes the same things. I only don't agree with telling people that have never ridden it (or any coaster really) "Dont ever try it even once, because I rode it and hated it"...some people, like me - really love the coaster. You never know, they might like it too. If they ride it once and hate it, great..but I'll ride anything at least once just to see if my opinion is different from everyone else's. GL is one of my favorite coasters due to its unpredictability, and it wouldn't be if I just listened to everyone else instead of riding it for myself to see.

When they finally do getting around to painting Tatsu they really need to go all out and use the best most expensive paint they possibly can. In my opinion it's the all around most visible coaster in the park's skyline maybe except Superman, and considering how logistically difficult it is to paint, better to spend more now and not have to do it again for many more years (or maybe ever, judging by X2).

Yes... as of today it still sucks. I'll keep you posted and let you know if anything changes. Touché. I have ridden it once - and it was god awful. This may be a sign to not give it a second chance for redemption. And apparently I'm not the only one that thought my collarbone was going to snap in two. That in part is why I love it. Unlike almost every other coaster, it's the only one that still freaks me out because on Green Lantern no matter how many times I've ridden it I still never quite know what's going to happen. (Though when you're either staring at the sky or face down going up the lift, you know it's not going to be boring!) Sometimes, it tries to tear your face off and give you a hernia and you curse it. Sometimes it's completely painless and boring and you don't flip at all and you (figuratively) want your money back. And sometimes you get that great ride where there's no pain and you flip 6 or 7 times. I like the rush of rolling the dice and hoping for that great ride. The risk of the rip your face off rides makes it more interesting.

Two things I know for sure:1. The whole park will not be open 2. At least part of the park will, which will include celebration swings, as CGA posted as such on their FB page earlier today. Will be nice if Gold Striker and one or two other coasters is open. I wonder if it's Vortex and they just mixed up their V words since Vortex is also near the park gates (for easily sectioning off the open part of the park)

The only place where driving is a bitch is within the city of San Francisco. Between SFDK and CGA/Levis is no problem. The good thing about San Francisco though is their public transit is pretty fantastic. BART is extremely convenient, you can park at a BART station outside of the city and then take the BART train into the city and/or take MUNI trains and buses to get to tourist spots in the city. Easier than driving (and parking) in the city. One driving tip I can offer is do not use the 880 during rush hour, it's a parking lot. (And btw if you're going to Levis Stadium anyway, you might as well hit CGA). Weather in June can be tough to predict..it may be mild or it may be scorching. Airports are a toss up, they're all fine though SFO can be kind of a zoo sometimes. Choose which one otherwise fits your logistics. Depending on how much time you have you should consider visiting the Santa Cruz Beach Boarwalk too. It's a stunning beautiful park with one of the greatest classic woodies ever built and it's only about an hr drive from CGA/Levis. I always go to SCBB the same day any time I go to CGA or vice versa. The drive between the two is one for skilled drivers though, highway 17 goes through some windy hilly roads and there's a lot of wrecks.

I almost always do single rider line for Green Lantern, even when the line isn't long...it's just easier. Plus I enjoy standing behind the ride op and watching them dispatch trains. Riddlers is kind of the same, unless you have a large group, its just way faster to go to the SRL and walk right onto the train in the station.
