I'm going for the decades-old hope for new Revolution trains without OTSRs and a coat of paint for Tatsu. Perhaps even splurge on rehabbing Sky Tower assuming they aren't already planning on replacing it. SFMM loves to add something every year, but Twisted Colossus is the best ride they've added in such a long time I agree that it can hold it's own for at least 2 years, so I think there's never been a better time to make needed improvements to existing rides.

Interesting, I didnt think of that, is this the newest coaster to get the makeover? Regarding it's aging, ironically it's been running great in the last year and a half or so. It used to have this horrible dip in the bottom of the first drop that hurt like hell. About a year ago or a little more they did some serious retracking that made a huge difference. It's not gold striker or el toro smooth, but it's not mean streak rough anymore either.

I think you're half right. SFDK is my home park and the one that I visit often, and very very commonly I hear GP in the park talk about their visits down to SFMM. A lot of them are probably like me, they drive to SFDK all the time and once or twice a year drive the 6-7 hrs down to SFMM. I think there are significantly less people whose home park is SFMM that know about or care about SFDK. Perhaps with a new RMC, there could be a West Coast Bash North and do SFDK, CGA, and SCBB? I would be all over that.

So we'll finally hear the end of it? Not quite, but we're inching towards it. This only confirms the ride is closing, not what will be taking it's place. I'm sure we'll have confirmation next month, and I have no doubt it will be RMC. Anyone else notice though that Roar is closing on the exact same day that Colossus did?
-
Yeah the paper avoided mentioning the park, saying "Cedar Fair park near San Francisco" or something, which didn't explicitly say it but made it obvious. Same thing with the RMC job posting that gave away the Roar makeover. It just said "Project is in CA" and by process of elimination we know it really can't be anything other than Roar, especially as loose lipped employees at SFDK have been warning guests that Roar will be closing later this year. The CA project could be GhostRider. Knott's GM has talked about celebrating the 50th anniversary of Ghost Town and implied GhostRider would be getting some love. I can definitely see that happening and as amazing as it would be, I don't think Ghost rider is the project RMC listed for CA. It's been flying around the forum that Six Flags has only one RMC conversion project lined up for next year, and when you consider that they no longer own a park in Kentucky or a park in Pigeon Forge, SFDK it is! Though I really hope Knott's goes through with the "Ghost rider love", I don't even have to say how much that ride could use it. I don't see that happening. It was the last ride that the Knott family designed, they don't want to mess with it, ever. They might eventually do a topper track, but they'd never change the layout like with a full RMC conversion.

Tickets bought, it's finally official! Pardon me for being a TPR event newbie So I'm guessing based on "4 Hours of ERT" that its split up as 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the evening, so start to finish should be approx 0830-2300 for SFMM and 0800-2100 KBF? Is check in usually like 30 mins or so before ERT starts? Trying to get a solid handle on what times for flights, rental car pu/do, and how much sleep I'm going to get Saturday night Im going to stay Saturday night in Valencia and drive to Buena Park Sunday morning. -
I dont know if that image shows intent to duel or lack thereof, but it certainly shows that the rideops currently working the ride are doing a crap job to say the least. To have all three trains stacked on a ride that long in duration is ridiculous. I know the guests cause a lot of problems with loose articles but at a certain point the ride op needs to step in and remove people from the ride if they can't follow the rules and board the ride in a timely fashion.

They also mentioned there was extensive rehab over the off season that supposedly made it less uncomfortable..anyone who's ridden it this season agree that it's better than before? -

Did anyone else catch the Periscope Q&A that Tony Clark just did with Jason McClure and Tony their director of food? Among the things discussed: - Raptor paint job is on the "to do list", no timeline - Dragster paint job is also on the "to do list", said it will be a multi-year project. - Pinks Hot Dogs is not leaving despite rumors to contrary - In park WiFi and Apple Pay are on the "to do list", the latter is probably more than a year out but will probably come eventually. - New attraction announcement to come in August, but we knew that. RMC of Mean Streak was asked, Tony pretended not to know what RMC stood for. Jason said he likes Mean Streak and thinks it is undeserving of it's bad reputation. Several people in the chat implied he was crazy. His comments seem to me to hint at RMC for MS not currently being planned. https://www.periscope.tv/w/aHFRPjE3MDAwNDN8Mzc5NTA2NDCWvNn_dGg8Gv2YBVuw2eitERFuKBDdJL5ZshyW1mawAg== -

Sounds to me more along the lines of what SFMM would build for their #20. -
Screamscape Does anyone know anything? Dang. Nope, but I did hear that the SFDK one has been closed for a while. It was breaking down a lot when I was there the end of last month. I can tell you (since I was standing in the station while they were troubleshooting it with the mechanics) that the problem they were having then was with faulty sensors reporting restraints open that were really closed and locked. Mechanics had to keep coming out and basically just rebooting the ride. No idea if this is the same problem Screamscape reported though.

I heard that the lift chain replacement is complete, the subsequent problem was with the lift walkway which was apparently in disrepair, and it is reportedly being brought up to code. You're absolutely right that this is the most comfortable way to ride a stand-up, but I've found a lot of operators at SFMM and CGA do not want you to ride this way and will actively stop you from doing that if they see it, yelling "Stand up straight, don't bend your knees!" I usually stand at such an angle that it looks like I'm standing up completely straight whereas in reality I'm slouched a bit so that when they lock the restraints and I stand up I still have that little bit of room. And yeah, Riddlers' SR line is easily the best for saving time vs the standby queue. The SRL being hard to find leading to fewer people using it combined with the high capacity 4-wide trains means that you will almost always walk right onto a train with no wait at all.
-
It really is (literally) incredible. I've never waited more than a half hour for that ride, and I've only once seen the line reach the upper queue. Every time I go there it's clear that that crew is busting their behinds to be as efficient as possible. When the ride opened they were more strict about assigned seating, but nowadays as long as the line isn't long they'll almost always say yes to your row request and it doesn't hurt their capacity at all. There was a bit of a temporary lull right when the seat belts were installed mostly due to guests not listening to the spiel about not pulling down your lap bar (despite being beat over the head with it) and seat belts having to be rechecked, but it didn't take them long to recover. I noticed on my last visit that the lap bars now don't lock until after the seat belts have been checked, so if someone sits down and pulls their bar down, they no longer have to start the belt checks over.

Havent heard anything about it, I assume it wasnt renewed. There is at least one more new show though. Kari Byron and Tori Bellici (formerly of MythBusters) are now doing a show for Travel Channel where they ride and film roller coasters, among other theme park activities. It hasn't started airing yet, but the stars have been posting photos of themselves filming it the last few weeks. Source? Just realized my wording is a bit confusing. I don't mean there's another episode of ICW, I meant an entirely new show. -

Heads up I just heard from Bert Kriescher on Periscope that he will be filming for the Travel Channel show Trip Flip all day at CP tomorrow..keep an eye out for "The Machine"! -
It's unlikely in the summer when the park is busier and lines are longer, but you may be able to pull it off if you use discover or gold pass early entry, hit rides like X2 and YOLO when their lines are short, and take advantage of single rider lines on Twisted Colossus, Viper, Revolution, Lex Luthor, Green Lantern, and Riddlers, then you may be able to pull it off. It will be much more difficult on Saturdays than other days of the week.

The orange train is in rehab right now, it's in the shop. SFDK is a year-round park now, so from time to time you will encounter this. Kong and Roar are the only major coasters that will run into one train operation when one of the trains is rehabbing. I was there the other day when it was running one train and that line still moves relatively quickly considering only one train. 3 switchbacks is usually only about 15 minutes or so. Thats good operations, not bad operations - Kong's ops usually do a pretty good job moving people through there quickly, and I've ridden Kong more than most people...I'm one of the few who loves it. I really cant recall ever seeing egregiously poor ops on any coaster at SFDK, and I'm always impressed without how fast the Superman crew is. I certainly can't say that about SFMM..they only place where they run one train and they still stack. (V2, Boomerang and Superman only have one train - when they rehab the ride closes completely. Medusa has 3 trains so it always has 2 running and 1 rehabbing unless there's an unscheduled problem.)
