I'm not usually one to be this cynical about the operations, but this is the part that worries me. Knowing the park's past habits, if there is a choice for them syncing or not syncing I fear that there will come a time when either they just dont bother syncing it up or something goes wrong with the software/electronics and they decide its cheaper to just run it without syncing (like the fire and audio on X2 only working occasionally, or old Colossus' other side, or Superman running both sides). I don't mean to be all doom and gloom though, I'm still excited to ride it and hope all is still on the up and up for WCB. I imagine one way or another it will be running in top form for the event.

I wonder why that is. Cost perhaps? Normally IOE is the designated controls contractor for RMC coasters, but Six Flags is the exception just because Six Flags does their own controls in-house. I remember them mentioning it when TC was first announced about the same time IOE announced their partnership with RMC.

I wonder if there's some kind of electronic toggle switch to tell the system whether to hold the green train to wait for the blue train or not (im referring to track color not train color) and when it's busier they can say "dont hold" in order to keep the line moving. If this wasn't at a Six Flags park I could ask IOE as they normally do RMC's controls, but not for SF.

West Coast Bash 2015!
singemfrc replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Actually there are some very decent hotels right next to the parks. The Hilton Garden Inn is right across the street, I've stayed there numerous times and it's extremely convenient. If you're the active type, it's practically walking distance and it's handy if you want to take a break mid day and eat lunch in your room and take a nap and come back. A Best Western is also there right next to it. I haven't stayed there but friends who have have said good things. There's also a Courtyard down the street which I've stayed at and was nice and an Embassy suites right next to it. These are less than a 5 minute drive from SFMM. For KBF, I'd have to recommend of course the Knott's Berry Farm Hotel which is next door. Can't get more convenient than that, and you get discounts if you're a Cedar Fair Platinum Pass holder. I stayed there last summer and the staff was surprisingly friendly. -

Definitely, I look forward to meeting everyone that I've talked to on here for several years! Some day I hope to be able to go to one of the longer trips, preferably in Asia..the timing has been historically bad for me. -

Never been to a TPR event either, might be solo on this one. Possibly will have a friend at SFMM but probably solo at KBF. -
That basic phenomena is true for the marquee coaster(s) at any park to some extent. Most people want to race for "that one coaster" in the morning, which creates lines earlier more than later. I think that effect is amplified on X2 because of the painfulness stopping people from wanting to re-ride, so people get in their one ride and then dont come back and the line gets shorter in the afternoon. I expect Twisted Colossus' line to be long most of the day for quite a while, people will be going to the park just for that and probably reriding repeatedly.

Having done media events in the past I would suggest that you don't do that. If the release didn't specify what to wear, I would always go dressed as plainly as possible. Park might be pretty picky (as they have the right to be) about what people are wearing. Yes, this is true. Generally theyre looking to avoid logos, but they could choose to remove you for any reason. I wouldn't do it, you may not get to ride. If it's a Six Flags, Magic Mountain, and/or RMC logo you're probably safe but I wouldn't wear anything else identifiable.

1. Not very, relatively speaking, unless theres an event. 2. Not in my experience, but I havent tried in a while things might have changed. 3. Yep, usually 5 mins early. Far left lane. If you have a gold pass though, use the far right line and get in 5 minutes earlier than Discover. 4. Usually 9:30, but it varies a little. People line up though, so if you want to be front of line, get there as early as possible. The Discover line isnt usually very long though, so if youre doing that, dont sweat the parking lot opening. Gold Pass line does get pretty long pretty fast however, and sometimes even gets closed off, so keep that in mind too. 5. There isnt a seperate gold pass lane. Literally speaking pass holders get through a little faster themselves because theres less for the employee to do, but you will inevitably get stuck behind people who think that the parking employee at the booth is the person to ask to plan their day while everyone behind them waits.

Depends. Its however the park/production company decided to do it. The year i did it, it was an open invite to passholders I went with my brother. For the most part we rode together but we started getting shuffled around once people started dropping off When I went to Gold Striker it was just "If you want to ride, show up". For Twisted Colossus, you have to be invited. Send an email to the address in my previous post if you want to attend, the park will choose who can participate.

Yeah somewhat surprisingly although the park will be more crowded, it doesnt lengthen the lines as much. The cheer competitors dont ride the coasters as much in my experience. To those asking, at most promo shoots you just get on and ride over and over and they get whatever footage they get from filming repeatedly, though like I said before they can and will sometimes move riders here and there, but you can certainly ride with friends. One other big thing - do not wear clothing with visible logos. Best case you might have to cover it, worst case they might excuse you.

I dont know about SFMM specifically but a lot of parks do it. I was able to become the 5th ever rider on the first public train dispatched on Gold Striker up at CGA at a promo shoot, before even the people that bid for "first rides" It really was a unique experience to ride a coaster that no one outside of park and GCI staff had ever rode and see the engineers, construction workers, and park managers waiting at the exit to see what we thought of it. Sometimes they ask you to email them, sometimes they want photos ahead of time, sometimes they just say "Show up here at this time". Usually its about a couple hundred people and you all just line up and ride over and over until they have all the footage they need. They dont usually put people in specific places, but they may place people in the front row for close-ups. It's likely they will have drinks and snacks, nothing major. CGA had one concession stand open when I was there serving free food and drinks (At the time the rest of the park was closed). And on that subject, Magic Mountain will be doing a promo shoot for Twisted Colossus on Wednesday May 13th from 2:00-9:00 and Thursday May 14th from 10am-6pm. You must be at least 18 with valid ID and able to ride consecutively for long periods. Email them a photo to sfmmsocialmedia@gmail.com if you're interested and can be there. For whatever reason they say if you're in the SAG or AFTRA unions you are not allowed to attend. It depends on how many people they have show up, but I'm betting you'll get at least 10 laps. The last one I did was only for about 3 hours and I got 8 laps in with about 100 people there (though many left after 1 lap).

- Memberships are functionally the same as Season Passes, they're just perpetually automatically renewed. - Pass/Membership processed at any SF park will work (Except La Ronde I think), it doesnt have to be a MM pass. - Doesn't matter when you buy it as long as you have your card in hand when you walk up to the station. If you were to buy your pass the day of the preview, I think youd have to go get it processed first, I doubt they'll accept your printout at TC.

I believe the reason it's called a "top gun stall" is because of the way the two trains interact. It mimics a scene out of "Top Gun" where two planes fly upside down and right side up. That is exactly why it's called that, it's named after the movie sign. I'm pretty sure Six Flags didn't come up with it, I heard Alan Schilke talking about it back when the ride was being talked about at IAAPA. Alan is probably the one that named it that, he is the designer of the ride after all. I love using my jets to do top gun stalls to unsuspecting pilots in Grand Theft Auto V lobbies...just like in the movie they dont know what to do and it freaks them out, I get a kick out of it.

West Coast Bash 2015!
singemfrc replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Last year if I remember right SFMM just had ERT before and after the park opened and pretty much nothing else planned. KBF had numerous backstage tours including the then recently refurbished Calico Mine Ride, A Q&A, and some other stuff. This year my only hope is ERT on Twisted Colossus. I can't believe there's anyway we wouldn't get that, it's just obvious. I wonder if Knott's will have anything to show on the new dark ride by September. -

Last year they were two separate events; you could attend either or both. I think KBF sold out faster than SFMM due to MM's lack of extra activities (not TPRs fault). -

Indeed, always appreciated Robb Still only went to one actual Bash, how does payment work again? We can't yet until the official announcement is out right? Just wanna make sure it's not possible to sign up already and I'm missing it Hoping for TC ERT! That alone would make the trip worth it! Right now it's just a "save the date", which means all that's announced so far is the date. I believe once it's open for purchase it will be available on the store page, and Robb or Elissa will probably post in this thread to let us know. -

After barely missing it the last few years I'm excited to be able to go this year, it will be my first TPR event!
