  1. Why? Are you the mechanic who's in charge of repairing it? Why is that of any consequence to you? Frequent maintenance means frequent downtime, which is of consequence to everyone. Though it rarely operates both sides at once, it's also rarely completely down. I haven't heard anything about it being closed lately. The only major coaster that is closed right now (Obviously other than Colossus) is Scream.
  2. Congratulations, it looks like a fun place to work and from what I hear Cedar Fair is a good company to work for. Now please, help make sure Gold Striker has as little down time as possible PS please direct a middle finger at the Prudential building for me
  3. First off, use some punctuation to clarify your sentences and distinguish between two sentences. Second, what do you mean is that true? What exactly are you asking? If you were at the park and saw they were closed, then you answered your own question already. Otherwise, why would anybody else know which rides are currently closed? He posted the same thing in the SFDK thread, he's reading which rides say "Temporarily Closed" on the sixflags.com site.
  4. I agree 100% with your assessment of Roar. It's miles better than it used to be, and I now classify it as a fun coaster, where it definitely wasn't before. I saw someone else say that it was better than Gold Striker though and that's just ridiculous. Giant Dipper was always better than Roar and Gold Striker is the first coaster in California in 90 years to better than Giant Dipper. I'm so happy to see you were able to ride Kong without the . Nothing riders can do is going to make it a smooth ride, but with a minimal effort it can at least be a fun and painless ride. Were you on the yellow train? In my experience the least roughest place to ride is the back row of the orange train..the yellow train seems to shake a lot more than the orange and in either train the front to me seems rougher than the back. Dare Devil is the same as Hammerhead in that it just loops continuously, but hopefully being that its a new ride it will at least have comfortable restraints. Those one size "fits" all automatic restraints on Hammerhead are terrible. Really uncomfortable for tall people.
  5. Right, but I don't think that blue and green RMC track is painted in the normal sense like other steel coaster track, I don't think it's subject to the same sun bleaching that normal track paint is. I remember someone from RMC talking about it previously when they were talking about how the track can be ordered in all different colors. How does NTAG and IRAT's track look now? Is the red/orange faded at all?
  6. You mean bright colors like the ones for Twisted Colossus? What bright colors, the white wood or the track? That's not normal track paint, I don't think the same conditions apply there. I mean lessons learned from how bad Scream (blue, yellow, and purple) and Tatsu (Orange and yellow) look when faded.
  7. Its not what it looks like when its painted that scares me, it's what it looks like when it's faded, like Tatsu does now. Bright colors end up looking like sucked on skittles and its really tacky.
  8. No kidding, I would have thought they learned their lesson with bright colors in the southern California sun.
  9. I'm not a huge fan of the hydraulic motion rides, but this seems like a fantastic use of it, I'm looking forward to this.
  10. I'd say Tatsu operations have improved as well since even though theyre still slow loading the trains, for the last several months they've been using both stations on a regular basis. It used to be extremely rare to see both going at once.
  11. I agree with you in that I would still go and I would still enjoy myself, but I would enjoy myself so much more if there was a quality environment around those same rides. I love riding the coasters everywhere, but the day at a park like Cedar Point, KBF, or DLR is more enjoyable overall because there's so much more to enjoy than just the coasters. tl;dr: This is good, but it could be so much better.
  12. Well thats the difference, isn't it? The coaster is being constructed by Rocky Mountain Construction, and the area around it and theming are being done by Six Flags. I'll give you one guess which one gets done on time.
  13. From what I have seen, the lines on both of those rides would say otherwise. I have always seen lines for Grizzly, but none for Vortex. Case closed. I'm gonna have to appeal that case. Grizzly always has a line because it takes 30 minutes to dispatch each train. It's the only ride I've ever seen where they had to build in entertainment on the brake run because trains stack there so unbelievably long.
  14. ^ I'll be doing both, so maybe I'll do a TR, it might be interesting. We're gonna get to the park at opening and then just walk to the stadium, hoping to save $30 on parking (since I have a gold pass).
  15. ^ Yeah it's nice being in an area where you can have a "home park" and then a few "home away from home parks". I have one home park and about 6 parks that are a road trip or short flight away. My home park SFDK which is about a 60 min drive away I've gotten pretty tired of going to by myself, but it's still fun on the rare occasion I can convince someone else to go with me. In addition to that though I also have CGA about a two hour drive away, and since Gold Striker opened I've yet to get tired of that. More often than not when I drive to CGA I also drive the extra hour to Santa Cruz for the Beach Boardwalk. The Boardwalk I don't think I can ever get tired of, because it's not just about the coasters, and I think this is why Cedar Point draws the same reaction from people, it's just a great place to visit whether I'm riding Undertow and Giant Dipper, shopping or just relaxing on the beach. About a 6 hour drive or 1 hour flight away (I do both depending on how many people are with me, it's easier to fly solo but cheaper to drive with a group) is SFMM, which I really consider my "other home park". Though it's farther, I always go down there at least a couple times per year. Make no mistake, unlike SCBB, I go to SFMM for coasters and nothing but coasters. They don't have anything else and I don't want anything else from them, so I enjoy myself every time. They have enough different coasters that it's really hard to get tired of any of them without going more than a couple times per year. Beyond that there's also KBF, DLR and USH that are an hour or so drive further. I've gone to KBF a few times recently so at least for solo trips I'm kinda tired of it for now. I haven't been to USH since 1996 or so, so I'm really itching to get back there soon and though I've been to DLR a couple times in the last few years, both times I didn't get to ride any coasters (!) due to unbelievably long lines or breakdowns. I really need to do a DLR/USH trip soon, but that's gonna be an expensive one since I don't have annual passes to either like I do for Six Flags. It's pretty lucky for a coaster enthusiast to live in California, the Chicago/Ohio midwest area, or Florida where you have multiple parks you can drive to pretty easily. I'd hate to live up in Seattle or something where you have one small park and have to fly to anything else.
  16. The retracking really did make a huge difference. I rode it right after it reopened and it was just worlds better. It's certainly better than Apocalypse (which is sad, cause it shouldnt be) but Gold Striker is still the best woodie on the west coast. The hell you say! Maybe it's just nice to ride one thats different than what you're used to, because I've ridden V2 many times and I thought Wicked Twister was far more exciting, plus it has a much better backdrop. Glad you had a great time despite SUF being closed..too bad though it's a great ride, you probably would have loved it.
  17. ^ Single Rider queues are the best of all worlds, it's a crime they aren't utilized at more parks. Shorter lines for riders, no effect on standby queues, happier guests for the park, full trains leaving the station. LOVE em. I love the electronic ones such as the Q-Bot and Disney systems, cause they automatically spread out the people so that there is minimal effect on the standby users, and you don't actually have to stand in line while waiting which is the best part. I used Fast Lane at Cedar Point, and while it was still an advantage, I found it to be less of one there, particularly on rides like Maverick because depending on where the FL line merged with the regular line, you could still be standing there for 45 minutes on a not-too-busy day. Like a couple other people have said I never buy FL/FP at my home parks SFDK and CGA..I go there often enough that if something is busy I just skip it and get it later or if the whole park is busy I just leave and come back later (granted that's a luxury afforded a SP holder than the GP might not have). SFMM is a kind of "semi-home park" for me since its about a 6 hour drive but its still doable and I usually go at least a couple times a year. At SFMM I almost always buy FastPass, as I can't be quite as choosy about what days I go, so sometimes I have no choice but to go on a busy day. Last year my friends wanted to go to SFMM with me but they only day they could go was Saturday of Labor Day weekend..ugh. Boy did FP save our butts that day.
  18. The most convenient place for food outside the park is the Carls Jr. that's across the street. (You can actually sit and watch Medusa trains while you eat your burger, which is kind of cool) Carls Jrs can vary quite a bit in quality, and for what it's worth this is one of the better ones. If you dont mind hopping in the car and going one exit down the freeway there are a few more options over in Gateway Plaza.
  19. Has anyone else noticed the park has been slowly posting official POVs of all the major coasters on it's Facebook page over the last couple years? As of last night when they posted Apocalypse we're now missing only Green Lantern and Scream. It's a little interesting that they didn't post Scream much earlier, at this point you'd have to wait for the re-opening.
  20. Now you can ride Kong and Boomerang one.more.time
  21. Bad timing, Superman is down for maintenance through next month.
  22. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that first event was a night game and the stadium wasn't completely sold out. 3/29's event will have a crowd larger than a sold out 49ers game (Theyre erecting temporary grandstands inside to add more fans, plus the seats on the field) and the event starts at 3pm, so people will be arriving for the event a good 5 hours before CGA closes..but the worst part is that those events usually last about 4 hours, which means Levis Stadium will be emptying out at the same time that CGA closes, 7pm. I think driving is going to be more of a nightmare than that first night for most people, but I'm hoping I can get there at 9am to do CGA in the morning and either pay for WM parking at the beginning and leave my car where it is and not have to worry about it until later so I can walk over to the stadium and not repark, or even better if the lot is totally mixed perhaps my gold pass will get me free parking through the entire day. If I had to guess I'm sure my gold pass will just get me in, seeing as both things close at the same time, I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to leave my car where it is even if there is a lot just for CGA. The park just replied on Facebook to a post about this and said "The park will be open and it may get busier late in the day so you may want to get to the park early"
  23. You might have better luck visiting the park and asking them in person.
