Posted in the KI thread too, but provides some input on when exactly the parks might open. https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2020/06/cedar-point-kings-island-water-parks-can-reopen-june-19-says-ohio-gov-mike-dewine.html Two weeks is when they're allowed to open, the 19th; three is June 26th. -

Well, this helps solve the "when" debate: https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2020/06/cedar-point-kings-island-water-parks-can-reopen-june-19-says-ohio-gov-mike-dewine.html Two weeks is when they're allowed to open, the 19th; three is June 26th. -

Hopefully Morey's, Casino Pier, Six Flags, and the others, follow suit (pun?) in NJ. Gov. Murphy needs a slap upside his head the way he's been handling reopening. -

You know that the inspection process hasn't happened how? Do you think they've just been running test cycles of the rides for the hell of it? Take your negativity somewhere else. -

Their lawsuit wanted them to "open immediately." They'll be ready in two weeks. -

They won't say they need until to July to be ready, given how they were suing to be able to open immediately, and if they tell you to wear a mask you suck it up and do so, or don't go. Their business, their property, their rules, regardless of how silly one may find them. Edit: Given that Ohio does not have a "mask required for customers" rule as part of it's emergency orders, it will be entirely up to CF if they choose to follow that guidance or institute a more severe policy requiring them. -

Sadly, from one of those articles, it said Gov. DeWine plans on vetoing the bill if it makes it to his desk. Allowing indoor FECs and movie theaters but not amusement parks makes no sense. Back to planning alternatives... -

Energylandia Park Discussion Thread
AmyUD06 replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Here's where I got that idea: https://energylandia.pl/en/about-us/subsidies/ Converted to US Dollars, that's $10,665,283.88 and $8,685,504.90. Not sure if that's EU or Polish finding, but it doesn't matter, they're not small figures. Also, from the attached image posted during the Hyperion expansion, they received $1,599,953.36 direct from the Polish government and $9,066,402.48 from the EU, which might as well be the same source. Also not small figures. And that's just what's being disclosed publicly by the park; if you don't think there's other incentives behind the scenes (which the fact that the Hyperion project numbers are not listed on their "subsidies" page, it virtually confirms that there are), you're blind. I'm sure their independently wealthy owner has a lot to do with it, but you can't say that the government (either Poland's or the EU) wasn't highly involved in its success or massive growth. The park would look a lot different today if it didn't have the financial support of Poland/the EU. I'm sorry if I offended your national landmark, but it is what it is. -

Well, I had been deciding between Vegas and Tampa for my 4th of July vacation...this about settles it. Are bars back to normal (edit: well, close to it...meaning a single guy can walk in, sit at the bar, and have a drink) in Ohio yet? -

It's easy when the government is funding the project with tax dollars, which is also easy when your federal income tax is 18-32%, social security and "sickness tax" is 13.71%, and you pay a 23% sales tax (they call it VAT) on everything except food. -

I was at KI during the Haunt, October 4 and 5. I believe I rode it on the 5th. I could have possibly just had a glitched run where nothing worked. -

I've been on both the KI and KD versions, both in their heyday and recently, and don't remember a difference. If anything, KD's still had more functional props as of last year. The fire effect and helicopter movement, both worked on the KD version, while the KI version just had you sit there while stuff was supposed to happen. If you're referring to the two Tomb Raiders, then I absolutely agree that KD got the budget version. That said, theirs lasted a lot longer. -

-Volcano, no question, no explanation needed. -Flight of Fear with the original Outer Limits theming in the queue. -Hurler and the whole Wayne's World areas. Yes, the Hurlers turned into barely-rideable coasters later in their life, but me as a teenager though it was super cool and loved the fast turnaround right after the first drop. I was originally going to say Sky Pilot and it's KI twin, but then realized they were pre-Paramount. That's about it. I still lament the de-Hanna-Barbera-izing the kids areas went through under them though. -

I fail to see the difference between a "dedicated launch coaster" and the "launch added to an existing model." If it launches, it's a launched coaster. If it has a lift and then gravity does the work, it's not. I'm also gonna laugh and laugh if B&M's "Surf Coaster" ends up being just like like Intamin's Surfrider model. -

Ouch....they list ACE, Coaster Crew, and GOCC, but not TPR. Shafted. -
Speaking as a LEO with almost 14 years on the job, you are making a lot of assumptions. You'd be surprised how many LEOs, even in suburban and rural areas, have more liberal beliefs. Most of us are unionized, and a lot are very anti-private-gun-ownership, so you have to take that into account. Also, the only "elected" LEO are Sheriffs...as in THE Sheriff, not the deputies that make up the actual department. Everyone else is hired, either by the Chief/Sheriff/Commissioner, or in the cases of Chiefs/Commissioners, the local government (mayor/council/etc.). Finally, it doesn't matter what the rank-and-file believe, it matters what the Chief/Sheriff/Commissioner believes, since they're the ones issuing directives to those actually out on the street. I can't speak for my entire profession, but if my boss tells me to write someone a ticket for not wearing a mask or lose my job, you can bet that person is getting that ticket. Personally, I think the masks and social distancing stuff is ridiculous, but I wear a mask when there's a sign on the door to the business telling me to, and would write a ticket if so instructed, because it's not a big enough affront to my personal moral code to justify losing my career over. Not trying to derail the topic, just provide some perspective on what law enforcement will or won't enforce.

Given that people need to buy tickets on the website to be able to reserve their date with the new reservation system, I'm not sure how any of those "in-person" type deals would work. -

I think you have to buy tickets before you can make a reservation as a non-passholder. And I'm not gonna lie, this is kinda making me want to get on a plane and get my coaster fix. Two Schwarzkopfs would be the perfect remedy for 5 months of no coasters LOL. -

Thanks, Zach. Glad to know I'm not the only one with this perspective. Yeah, I didn't consider that CF parks would realistically implement a skip-the-line system similar to Six Flags Flash Pass (if they were to adopt virtual queues at all, fingers crossed they don't), with various grades and wait times. I agree that it's just not the same as bypassing the whole regular queue and getting that "better than you" feeling LOL. -

Some events in Wildwood, NJ, for August and September were cancelled months ago. Some events just take a lot of planning and prep, and it would be simpler to just cancel out of an abundance of caution. I wouldn't read too much into it. -

Oh, I know it's all speculation, and I'm not really flipping out. Just responding to A.J.'s speculation that all parks will adopt this nonsense for foreseeable future, seen here: If people are going to throw out hypotheticals, they're going to get hypothetical responses. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

Or, you buy Fast Lane Plus at Cedar Fair parks, and don't wait more than 5 minutes. My concern is obviously not with Holiday World, a park that is geographically distant that I have only ever planned on visiting once or twice in my life. That said, it absolutely IS a reservation system - when you click on it, it will give you a time to go to the ride in question. My concern is with my regular CF parks adopting something similar - namely Kings Dominion; where I used to buy Fast Lane Plus and wait no more than 5 minutes for just about anything. -

If that's the case I guess my amusement park days are over, or at least going to be severely cut back. Especially if, as their site says, you can only reserve one ride at a time. What are you supposed to do while waiting for a ride, if every ride is on this program, and there are no shows or anything else to do? EDIT: Oh wait, I can tell you what the bulk of people are going to do: crowd around the entrance for the next ride they're set to go on via the app, thus diminishing the entire "social distancing" point of the virtual queue in the first place.
