  1. Cedar Fair are obviously wanting to invest in the park, while there haven't been any new rides in two years, there have been many improvements. That stadium will continue to be the roadblock for a while.
  2. I'm glad that's resolved... that post scared the heck outta me!
  3. I went to River Country in 1985. It was in fact mostly Lake water and the water used in the slides were used from that as well. One of the large inner tube rides always flipped over once it hit the lake. I only rode it once, since at age 11, I hated involuntarily going under water... still do! (the tubes were big and black and round and had no grab-handles) River Country also had a white sandy beach and a lot of gadgets to play with. It was still a very nice park and would still most likely be open if it weren't for the natural lake water. The park also featured a somewhat large pool and a hot tub or two. They were very strict about guests getting sand in the pool as you can imagine. We only went one day there, and it was only for a few hours, so the memory is a little fuzzy. There was also a petting zoo nearby. I hope something comes from the area, fort wilderness was a very nice area. A trip to Discovery Island cost extra, and we didn't do it.
  4. ^ It ran for a couple more years afterward
  5. Orient Express had some major structural problems. They didn't want to take it out, they had to as the repairs outweighed the value of the ride. I think it was Spinning Dragons that replaced it. Ridership and costs played a major part in Shockwave's removal. They were planning on relocating it elsewhere or selling it. They took it down with care. Im not convinced that they truly were going to remove Whizzer, I think it was a publicity stunt. Engineers would have had to survey that site at least a year prior.
  6. Looks like the mayor of Louisville is trying to keep the park from closing by asking the State Fair board to reconsider the lease: http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20100204/BUSINESS/2040358/Six+Flags+to+close+Kentucky+Kingdom Frankly, I think Six Flags will walk away, regardless of lease negotiations. But it might be a great time for someone else to pick it up. Its early enough to make a Memorial Day opening. Time will tell.
  7. I've said this before, but, Personally, if I owned "The Mountain": Ride Park: • Move Pirate Ship & Yo Yo to Cyclone Bay • Remove/Sell Thrill shot • Remove/Sell Superman • Remove/Sell Scream! • Remove/Sell Deja Vu • Remove Monorail • Build a Giant Wheel on old Pirate Ship/Yo Yo Pad • Build Splash Battle • Build "Water-Coaster" • Place DCA's Maliboomer near "Supermans" Entrance calling it "Superman's Tower of Power" • Build High-Capacity simulator • Build HUSS Giant Frisbee™ (on Thrillshot site) • Build HUSS Top Spin™ w/Water Effects • Build CHANCE Wipeout™ • Build "Shaded" Zamperla Tea Cups • Build Larson Flying Scooter Water Park • Build Second Wave Pool/Non-Wave Pool on Flashback Site • Build 2 New Proslide™ Family (four-person raft) Waterslides
  8. To venture off the height restriction discussion... Has the ride (Dance Coaster) actually been spotted on SFMM property yet, or is it still sitting at SFNO?
  9. ^ No, The opening scene in 'Rollercoaster' was "Ocean View Park" in Virginia
  10. ^ Exactly. But remember, it was inspected and cleared by the state. The cheapest thing to do would be to reopen it and add a trim (if thats even possible) or they can knock it down... or redesign 1/3 of it. Personally, they have enough stuff in that park to where knocking it down wouldn't upset that many people... as guest favorites still remain to be the Beast, Vortex and now Diamondback
  11. ^ That brings up a good point, Boll&Mab. But who's to say if Knotts still owned the place it would be the same as it always was. Look at how some people dislike the new Disney. Nothing will ever stay the same, and with each negative change, you'll always find as many bright spots. Heres something to think about with all the CF vs Paramount discussions: When CF puts in a new ride, how many other rides do they take out in the process, and what is the reasoning behind it? Now compare that to Paramount.
  12. There is a general consensus that everything broken at the park can be fixed right away.. and thats just not the case. They have only had the park for 3.5 years now. Say what you will about Cedar Fair management, but they have put a ton of money into that park already and Planet Snoopy is still going to have a hefty price tag as well. Paramount really did a job on the park, and Cedar Fair are doing quite well at maintaining it and bringing things back up to a better standard. I was at the park 4 times last year and everything was running, well staffed and the lines moved well. Properly painting Top Gun will cost over $500,000 and with it being tucked back in the corner, I honestly don't see it being repainted for a few more years at least. As for Son of Beast, they spent several million to trash the loop and put the G-Trains on, frankly, my thoughts are it will just be taken out and written off or just plain reopened. As much as I agree to pull out the Rosebowl, add a few hills, a high turnaround and low to the ground return reconnecting to the block, I just don't see them spending another $5 to $8 million just to do that... unless they rebrand and market the ride completely as "new".
  13. Here are the rides that are left at Cypress Gardens: http://www.rides4u.com/index.php/rides/results/cat/44 Starliner is off the list... Triple Hurricane is still on it. Im pretty sure STARLINER is headed up to Green Bay Wisconsin (or Big Dipper)
  14. We went to Cypress in 2007 and had no trouble whatsoever finding it. Its all about marketing and branding and LEGO is a very powerful brand... even more powerful than Universal. If you're worried about people not having the transportation to get there, nearly half of Orlando Tourists have rental cars and the 40 minutes it takes to get to CG is not much more than your average local theme park or to some... an every-day commute to work. The parks infrastructure is already set up to achieve 6 Million annually and *If* Cypress becomes a Legoland, I have faith it will succeed.
  15. Im 36 and the first coaster I remember was the Little Dipper at Conneaut Lake. Other firsts were the Big Dipper and Cyclone at Geauga Lake. I think I was too young to ride Geauga Lakes little Dipper, which was removed at the end of 1975
  16. Aside from that great report, that's one BEAUTIFUL HONDA FIT!
  17. I'm glad they are putting work into that Trabant. They take very well-care of their equipment.
  18. It looks overly complex and heavy. If they can build that 24 or 32 passenger 1-trailer portable model then we may see a few, but that 16-passenger one wont be very popular.
  19. I really don't like this idea at all. I hope it's not a true rumor. DD should either stay where it is, or come down to never operate again.
  20. Is it me, or are all of the arms on that spider lowered at the same time? It looks like an Eyerly, but you can only load two arms (4 tubs) at one time on the spiders... unless this is a in-house modification. That ferris wheel is neat, too!
  21. You'd think since it's a French Park, Wallygator would have named it "Le Monster" I hope that's not the final logo or font they use.
  22. I liked Pony Express, I thought it was a great little coaster. What I didn't like was their "no glasses (even with a strap) policy". Anyway, the Great America situation feels like the Michigan Adventure situation where the park had to wait a few years to figure out what the local government was doing before thy could really start investing into the park.
  23. B&M will NOT allow a floorless conversion. It has something to do with the heartline and the riders position.
  24. The Three "New" Rides are coming from Celebration City: • Scrambler • Flying Scooters • A Coaster All the rides that Cypress has been selling have been put on hold for now until they figure out whats happening with the park land.
  25. Those are also very close Stats to the Geauga Lake Big Dipper.
