  1. June 12th, with my uncle, 8 miles around the city. When was the last time you had a beer?
  2. The Cure - Friday I'm in Love
  3. Quebec looks cool. The people seem pretty awesome despite the bad reputation they might have here in the US of A. I had another Spaten product last night. How do they make this stuff! Yummy yummy in my tummy. I really want to try Racer X as soon as possible! And to close the night, another bottle of Racer 5 IPA, ABV 7.0%. This stuff is just yummy. Smells yeasty and a bit clovey, much like a typical Belgian beer would. The first impression comes off belgian like to me as well, but you get some really nice sweet flavors at the end. I liked it A LOT. Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu's Hefe-Weisse Dunkel. From Munich, Germany. ABV 5.0% Very appealing looking in the glass, very smooth head!
  4. Why does it always seem like I fill the last post on the page... Feels like some people might be missing my posts sometimes. Anyone ever been to Toronado in San Francisco? Noticed it's #4 on the list. Have you guys seen the website for Flying Dog's open source beer project? They're giving homebrewers the exact recipe for a beer they are going to be bottling soon, the "Collaborator" doppelbock. http://www.opensourcebeerproject.com Last night I tried one I wasn't really sure about... Crisp and refreshing, with some real flavor too. Best Kolsch I've had from a bottle. Do they bottle Victory's Kolsch? I hear that's good. Followed it up with a Tire Bite Kolsch from Flying Dog. 5.12% ABV. I was really underwhelmed. It might just be because I love IPAs so much now, but it just wasn't that good, don't know how else to put it. Lost Coast's Pale Ale. 5.2% ABV. They used Pacific Northwest hops in this one.
  5. ^ Nice start on the Photo TR Heath. I haven't tried anything from any of those companies before, except Sam Adams of course =P Last night I had my first taste of a brewery I've been meaning to try for a long time... This is probably the hoppiest Imperial Stout I've had yet. A quick shot of piney hops hits you, and then transitions into the raisin/chocolate flavors. At the end you get the alcohol rum flavors. Very nice. Drake's Imperial Stout. 8.75% ABV. Drake's is located in San Leandro. I love the smell, it's like rum/raisin/chocolate. A pint a day keeps scurvy away!
  6. ^ Thanks for the link Derek. I see Toronado is #4 on the list. Have you ever been there? Next time I am in the city with friends hopefully we'll stop by. Last night I had more projects to work on, and when I finally finished, I had a treat waiting for me in the fridge. An import from Germany this time... They take green malts and dry them over an open fire of beech wood. It tastes like a campfire basically, with some nice Marzen flavors underneath as you swirl it around. Very impressive, going to try their other two soon. From Brauerei Heller-Trum in Bamberg, Germany, I present to you the Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Marzen. ABV 5.4% It's a Rauchbier, literally translated, Smokebeer.
  7. Last night I finished some work on a bunch of projects and then tried another beer from North Coast Brewing Company in Fort Bragg. I followed it up by a nice Racer 5 IPA which I didn't get pictures of. I am ushering in a new generation of odd facial expressions here! It was delicious. I liked it better than Ol' Foghorn, but Ol' Foghorn is good too. Old Stock Ale. 11.7% ABV. It's an Old Ale, whatever that means... Tastes like a Barley-Wine to me.
  8. I was outdone again! Son of a *****. Derek went all out this weekend, haha. Also, nice post Adam. I've had a question on my mind for a while now Derek... When you say you're at the "Xth best place to have a beer in America" where are you getting that list from? I don't seem to be able to find it on beeradvocate.com Just curious to see how certain places around here rate...
  9. Oh my gosh, I'm back!!! I was out of beer for almost a week, how depressing. My mom feinted and had to go to the Hospital and stuff so that sucked and I've been trying to take care of her and and all this other crap going on. But, enough about that, the bottomline is, my uncle and I went to BevMo for a rather large purchase of beers that should hold me over for a while. It seemed like they changed their inventory quite a bit since I was there 3-4 weeks ago. That's a good thing in my book since it just gives me more new things to try. Anyway, onto the beers we drank last night in his garage. One of the best wheat beers I've had to date. I like the fact that it doesn't taste like lemon, you can really taste the wheat. Lovely... Coastal Fog's Bavarian Wheat Beer. These guys brew in Gilroy, CA. Nice color in the glass. Oh, check out the Beer and Cheddar chips we got!!! Delicious. I can confidently say, I like this IPA better than Stone's. The main difference between the two is that Racer 5 is much more piney, and Stone's is much more citrusy. I like the pine, it smelled and tasted marvelous. If you can remember what I had from the last time I went to BevMo, I bought a Stone IPA six pack. Well, this time I picked up a sixer of Racer 5 IPA by Bear Republic. 7.0% ABV. A much more typical Stout than the St. Peters Cream Stout. Nice roasty flavors with a little tinge of chocolate and coffee. Better mouthfeel than St. Peters Cream Stout as well. Lost Coast's 8 Ball Stout. 6.3% ABV. Found this nice bomber at BevMo finally. The texture could best be described as motor oil. It was syrupy as I poured it into the glass, and had an oily mouthfeel. The flavors were very good, chocolate up front, with a bittersweet finish. Very impressed with this brewery from Suffolk, UK. You may remember my uncle found a St. Peters Golden Ale a ways back, that we really enjoyed. Well BevMo had St. Peters Cream Stout. 6.5% ABV. I wasn't terribly impressed with this beer, but it's one of the better Kölsches I've had from a bottle, which isn't saying much. Faultline's Kölsch on tap is so amazing. First up, Flying Dog's Tire Bite. It's a Kölsch with 5.12% ABV.
  10. ^ That Doppelbock looks and sounds excellent Derek. I love banana and clove flavors in beer. I need to go to BevMo as I am fresh out again, but I hope you enjoyed my BJ's trip.
  11. Usually gettin my grub on while sobering up and browsing up in this place before bed around this time, 3am. Pub Grub.
  12. ^ Finally a PhishyBrewer post! Last night I went to BJ's. Then hung out with my uncle by the fire. Warning, warning, lots of beers ahead! Blue Heron Pale Ale, the beer that's funky until it warms up a lot! It wasn't really all that hoppy/bitter, but the flavor was nice. Lagunitas IPA. A pretty good IPA, but I wasn't that impressed. Mirror Pond Pale Ale, the first time my Uncle has tried it. He thought it was mild in flavor, I dunno what he's smoking! Eye of the Hawk, not bad, but I'm not quite sure how to describe it. Fire is so beautiful, mesmerizing even! Back over at my uncles later on, Eye of the Hawk, one of my uncle's favorites. Lawn ornament! The stout was the best beer of the four, very different and quite thick, like motor oil! And for me, fish and chips, these things just go good with beer. They were very nice! My mom ordered the Turkey Cobb Club Sandwich, looked delicious, and she confirmed that it was. Being a big fan of good Kolsch, I tried the Blonde first. It was a pretty good Kolsch, but not nearly as good as Faultline's. The 4 beer sampler, from left to right, Stout, Red, Pale, Blonde (Kolsch).
  13. More from the down the street liquor store. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that the new owners are just selling off the old stock of beer, because everytime I compliment them on the specialty beer selection they have no idea what I am talking about. I'm pretty sure the wife of the owner is the one working on the register too, so that's a bad sign if she knows nothing. Anyhow, tonight I try my 2nd belgian beer from Quebec, which can mean only one thing, Unibroue (Unibrow???) Yeah, pretty much the same exact picture as the night before, but this time I'm giving the thumbs up! Tasty. Okay, so I guess this weird smelling nose is a part of pretty much every Belgian. That and the high carbonation kinda bugs me about Belgian brews, I wish I could just taste the fruityness etc, but it's an understatement compared to that metallic taste I get. Unibroue's Maudite (Maudite means cursed) It's a Belgian Strong Dark Ale and has 8.0% ABV. Not quite as dark as it looks in the photo, though.
  14. Nice update. Hoffman Girl holding KidTums was a cute picture! I like the poem MrMorgan, must have taken a while to come up with, and I must say, it was very well presented. Is there another thread with what was inside the blue curtain in the freaky sex shop? And I leave you with... Jeff Johnson.
  15. I walked down to the nearby liquor store last night with my Uncle to buy some more brews, and he got some more cigars. Oh, I also bought a Choco Taco and ate it on the walk home, those ice cream waffle cone tacos are delicious! I also bought a sixer of one of my favorites, Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale Ale. The cascade hop flavor in this beer is just so juicy and yes, I'm going to use this word, "quaffable". The nose was a little metallic, kind of like La Fin Du Monde's was. It tastes that way too, until the head would fade, then it tasted a lot like Sam Adams Summer Ale. Not bad, but not great either... Fischer Tradition Amber. 6.0% ABV from Schiltigheim, France. Boy let me tell you that swing cap was PRESSURIZED, popped off of there real loud.
  16. Stone Temple Pilots - Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart
  17. ^ Yay, now you've tried a Dead Guy! The lack of updates from me is because sadly I am yet again out of beer, and the ones I had last night were ones that I have had before... but alas... My last Stone IPA, nooo!!!!! BevMo here I come... Sunset Wheat in yo' eye!
  18. ^ You're always so busy with your beer and coaster adventures! Last night I went to Outback with my mom, uncle and grandma. I got the ribeye and it was excellent as always. Enjoyed that with a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on tap. Once we got home, I just kinda stayed across the street at my uncles, for what seemingly is becoming a ritualistic saturday night. So so excellent. Tons of flavor, especially as it starts to warm up. I wish this stuff was in either a bomber or six packs. And tonight I am currently enjoying another Celebrator Doppelbock. Definitely worth the 2nd buy. It honestly doesn't compare to Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout though, the mouthfeel just isn't there. Next up, Young's Oatmeal Stout. Only 5.2% ABV on this guy. It was good, had some definite dark chocolate coming out as it warmed. It was quite nice... I still prefer Black Butte Porter, but it was still pretty good. Definitely sweet stuff. My uncle picked this up, Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter. Only 5.0% ABV. Looked pretty appealing to us!
  19. ^ You had to beat me to it didn't you!!! Oh the perks of being on the east coast, you're in the future, dude! Anyhow, I waited til about 12:30am PST to try my Vertical 7/7/07. To be honest, I haven't had many beers that taste like this, so I wasn't quite sure what to think. I wish I had tried 6/6/06, since Derek speaks highly of it. Looking forward to 8/8/08 and starting work on my makeshift cellar in the crawl space underneath the house. It's got some more spice than La Fin Du Monde though, and I'm not quite sure that's a good thing. I do like the underlying pear flavors, and the zesty-ness does indeed come through nice. More quality from Stone, all in a days work. Profile Shot! 8.4% ABV. Cross between a Belgian Strong Pale Ale and a Saison. The beer it most reminded me of was La Fin Du Monde.
  20. Oooh Kentucky Breakfast Stout and Storm King. Now you're really making me jealous! I'm looking forward to midnight tonight! I think you guys know why! Vertical _ _ _ _ No, not loop silly!
  21. Just threw this together real quick lol... lou-roxbury.swf Night At The Roxbury, Lou style!
  22. Yesterday I visited the Kwik-E-Mart in Mountain View and made a little Photo TR. If you'd like to see this, then I will shamelessly cross post the link here! http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37023&start=27 I just have to say before I begin that Lay's Jalapeno Kettle Chips are excellent. Now that I've taken care of that, here is the extreme beer that I had last night. It seems less spicy, and more caramely. It also seems a bit more bold and full, very complex, and very intense flavors. It finishes very hoppy. I like it a lot, but I prefer Hop Rod Rye. He'Brew's Bittersweet Lenny's Rye Malt Double IPA. 10% ABV. Let's see how it compares to Hop Rod Rye, shall we?
  23. That sketch is called "Night at the Roxbury" and was later made into a pretty cool movie. The song is What is Love? by Haddaway. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfu0xAkEVOQ
  24. I figured I'd contribute my pictures from when I went to the same location as the Original Poster today... I got a Vanilla Squishee but wasn't in the mood for donuts. They were out of Buzz Cola in cans and also out of Krusty O's, though they're supposedly receiving a new shipment Saturday. On to the pictures... Me and my squishee posing outside. You can see Mr. Security Guard in the background! Officer Wiggum was on top of the donut display, but it was hard to get an angle of the display and him in the same shot. Nachos and Comics anyone? Ralph's tongue got stuck to the popsicle! Buzz Cola! Hey look, it's Maggie, almost didn't see her on top of there! The squishee machine in its full glory. I don't know how I managed this picture without people in front of it. Homer is awesome! A picture of the actual donut display, blurry, I know. Mmmm, donut... Not nearly as crowded as it was on the weekend by the looks of it, still a lot of traffic in the store, but no line to get in.
  25. ^^ I'm surprised you were able to find Old Rasputin out that way, and I can't believe you dislike it! It's one of if not my favorite russian imperial stout. Send the rest to me!!! =P I have some pics and a short video from my 4th of July yesterday... Excellent. Good balance between citrus and caramel and very very resiny with lots of pine. A very nice way to end my night as I ate some leftover tri-tip slices. After the fireworks I went home and tried Moylan's Double IPA, suggested by Heath after I tried the triple! 8.5% ABV. P7040028.AVI Short firework video taken on my digital camera, I wish I had more memory so I could have gotten the whole thing! Obligatory firework picture, from when we lit them off down the street at my neighbors once it got dark. DEFINITELY an english ale, very biscuity and the hops are fairly strong in this one and taste very englishy. I really liked it more than other golden's I've tried from England though. Delicious. St Peters Golden Ale, found this at the local PW Market. 4.7% ABV from Suffolk, England. Shared this with my uncle as I was BBQing Tri-Tip Roasts outside.
