  1. The alamo facade was recently repainted then torn down a couple weeks before the park opened for the season.
  2. SFOT 1995 - 1999 1995 Worked Spain Rides (Bobsled, Conquistador, El Hat, Log Flume) 1996 Strike Force (walked half the park sweeping, no bathroom/patio duties), Chameleon 1997 Splashdown, Cliffhangar 1998 Looney Tunes, Front Gate P/S, Dive Bobmer Alley 1999 Dive bomber Alley Zero Gravity 2000,2001, and 2003 SkyCoaster, Bunjee Jump, Blastoff, Nothin But Net, and Skyscraper
  3. I have a suggestion. In regards to the influx of spam threads, could you make it so there is a waiting period after signing up to post? I think a day would be good, but wouldn't 30 minutes possibly do the trick? Or has this already been tried and they still keep happening?
  4. When I worked for the park, I saw plans for a possible make over of the good times area to a superhero area. It showed on it Batman (these plans that I saw were before Batman was built but after Mr. Freeze), Gotham city, rethemeing of Flashback, and shoot out as well to marvel superhereos. The other thing that was interesting was that part of the concept art showed them moving the Car Lanes to go along side Judge Row Scream and the toll plaza being moved as well. This would free up all of that area for development. A second plan was for a HyperCoaster to be built by Judge Roy Scream going over the lake, 6 lanes, and over by Splash. This of course never happened as Titan was built by Texas Giant.
  5. No just a weight limit (240 lb at the one in Dallas). I've seen men in their 60's on it. It is not very hard to video tape it either. I did video taped people quite a bit. Just put on a climbing harness and safety to the cage, saftey the camera to the cage and then stradle the opening above the person and film.
  6. My favorite thing is watching people drop right after it had rained. The nets would be soaked. People went up dry and came down soak.
  7. I worked on the one in Dallas. You put your hands through loops so that you won't try and move. They way you are suspended in the harness, your basically in the fetal position, so that your butt is the lowest point. The 3 summers I worked there, I never saw anyone land wrong (except for a couple workers who were free diving with out a harness and doing flips).
  8. It was one of the Bungee Cord ejector seats from what I can tell. I worked at a bungee jump park and I was there the night of the accident a few years ago on the ejector seat. Here is what I remember about this type of ride. Whether it was cords that were built on site or bought from a company in Colorado, these cords really started to wear thin at 400 launches. I believe they were suppose to be okay up to 600 but we never went that high in # of launches. We had to keep a very detailed record of how many launches there was every day in the log book. The cords we used had a safety line in them that was able to hold 10,000 pounds. There was one on each cord, (one of the main reason to have both is if there was a cord failure, the safety line would prevent the chair from wrapping around the opposite pole). The nite of the accident the chair was launched, and as it was coming back towards the ground is when the cord failed, the safety line kept the chair from hitting the ground, the recoil from the other cord, prepelled it up and into the tower, it bounced off, and went a little higher and was stuck on the tower. There was 2 guys riding, one of which got stiches in his leg, but both walked away. (The guy that got stiches refused to take an ambulance, and went in his own vehicle to the hospital. Don't remember the exact # but I do believe it was less than 10 stiches that he received). I watched the whole thing happen from the top of the bungee jump tower. Very surreal watching it happen right before you. And yes I have ridden it alot since than, and still get a rush from it. edit: it was this accident that i was there for # Bungee cord snaps on Texas thrill ride; 2 injured (7/29/01)
  9. 1. Tribes 2 no other game has kept me hooked for as long as this game has. The Team oriented game play, as well as being more than a run and shoot (UT, Quake, etc.. first person shooter game). I have played this game for over 5 years now, 3 years competively, and I still find myself coming back for more.
  10. Never been kicked out but I did get 2 teenagers kicked out and season pass revoked for the season once @ SFOT Was during the Season Pass preview for Mr. Freeze before it opened to the public, because it didn't open the year it was suppos to. Brand new queue line and these stupid kids thought it would be funny to write their name on the wall. I got security there ASAP and the rest is history.
  11. Crap I feared it was OFN or VOFN. edit: Thanks. I thought it was weird it came up under a search for roller coasters. yes it is a slow day at work.
  12. Was searching through you tube and found this video. Not sure when or where it happened. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Eou1usX2zLw&search=roller%20coaster Anyone have any info on this?
  13. I thought I could run down the first hill of Bobsled/LaVibora at SFOT during inspection. Needless to say I had to go to wardrobe for a new pair of pants.
  14. My last cigarette was on 5/22. I finally went to my doctor and had him put me on Wellbutron (sp?). This is a an anti-depressant drug, but one of the side effects that they found is that it helps people stop smoking. I get the urge every now and then, but then I think about how I have made it this far. Good luck!
  15. No kidding. I worked at Zero Gravity for a while here in Dallas. The skycoaster only had the manual pole as well. To top it off, the ground was entirely gravel, and you basically were water skiing on rocks to stop the group. Though it was always fun to catch a big group really high and get pulled hard. Was dangerous but fun! Also, while working at SFOT, the Cliffhanger (old intamin Freefall) was a very tiring ride. You were constantly jumping from car to car to check the restraints. It used to have 3 loading platforms, but now there are only 2. You worked your ass off, but time flew by.
  16. The pic of the AA plane is photoshopped. The two of the cargo planes taking a dump is most likely caused from not balancing the load on the plane. For more aircraft pictures, www.airliners.net has alot of good pics. Also can find some videos at www.flightlevel350.com
  17. I have seen Mr. Freeze (SFOT) valley a couple times. Most during testing before it ever opened (funniest one was, when they forgot to turn the motors on, on top of the spike). Freeze was designed so that if it valleyed in either section, after unloading the passengers, there is 4 foot sections of the track that come off so they can take the train apart. Only problem is that each car is almost 6 feet long.
  18. www.pixel2life.com great site for tutorials for photoshop and more edit:sorry about that.
  19. I'm not that surprised. I was in Shenzhen (mainland china next to HK) end of july. One day I was walking down the side walk and there was a young boy taking a sh*t right in front of everybody with his mom standing next to him. Disgusting.
  20. Titan rocks, and it wasn't completely put on the parking lot. The first drop, tunnel and turn around occupy what use to be the the softball field that was used in the summer for the employee league. Ah the memories from working there.
  21. I was the lead for a year at the one at SFOT. Yes they now have antiroll backs all the way up the lift. Blowbacks were always a problem when the wind was blowing from the SE. The tires at the top could not move the car from the lift to the free fall position so we would have to run up there push it out ourselves. I actually say 2 cars hit twice while I was there. Both times was because the motor that regulated the speed when the car was being uprighted went out so the car would come down extremely fast. E-stoping the ride wouldn't help at all either. Once the car is uprighted it moves freely most of the way to the station till it hits the tires to slow it down. Unfortunately when the motor goes out like that, they are no help and BAM. Never any serious injury thank god.
  22. When I was involved in all the testing of Mr. Freeze at SFOT before it opened. I rode it prolly close to 30 times one day. I was also apart of the commercial shoot for it, and did about 15 laps that day. It was funny too, because they had a bunch of paid actors there and some park employees. The actors were taking dramamien (sp) and all the park employees were eating up the catered food.
  23. having worked at SFOT for a couple of years, I saw the tower get hit once, and while I worked there AirRacer was hit, but that pos was down for months because of it!
  24. I was just in Hong Kong area last week (Shenzhen to be exact). I flew back last thursday, and the flight was a little over 13 hours. Didn't get to spend any time in HK, so no cool pics to show
