They did the same thing last year so they they could clear the queues and do "sweep" (clear the general public guests from the park) before our ERT started. Luckily it was a very slow day so sweep didn't take very long and ERT actually started shortly after 8pm! Hopefully that will happen again this year, but there is no promises that ERT will start early. --Robb

TPR TV or CoasterTube
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm currently working on getting everything moved over to CoasterTube: www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube At the moment, embedded videos in the forum don't work but that should be fixed by tomorrow. It's getting VERY CLOSE to going live! --Robb -

Yes it is! You can see a version of the new logo installed here: http://www.themeparkreview.com/tprtv/ I'm going to do some work to change everything that says "TPR TV" over to "Coastertube" and at the moment www.coastertube.com also works! --Robb -

Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride

You are also noticing the slab more now because it's exposed. Once the ride is built I doubt you'll notice it. Just look at some of these shots of Troy: And Thunderbird: -
TPR TV or CoasterTube
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I thought about that. And I think I'd like to stay consistent. So it's either all abbreviations or none at all. TPR TV or Theme Park Review Television Seeing how it seemed to fit very nicely in the logo I decided to go with Television. --Robb -

We rode this exact same model of coaster at Nigloland in 2005. Here's a picture of the restraints: Seems to me you'd really have to try to get out of them. --Robb -
TPR TV or CoasterTube
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So I've been going back and forth about this a lot lately and I think I've decided on the name: "Coastertube: Theme Park Review Television." I believe that "TPR TV" as an acronym will be totally lost on anyone outside of TPR. I think "Coastertube" is VERY self explanatory, or at least in one word more explanatory than "TPR TV" The more I think about it, I want to stay away from using "TPR" whenever possible and actually say "Theme Park Review" as that title in inself is also very self-explanitory. I'm getting very close to actually launching this so if there is any feedback on the name, even though I know it wasn't the 'popular vote' it would be appreciated! --Robb -
Let's face it, there are some ACE members and TPR members that will never get along. It doesn't really bother me in the slightest. If they want to boo and hiss because of what we offer to the community, then they can knock themselves out! (litterally!) There isn't any other group out there that offers the volume of content and information that we offer ***FOR FREE*** and I think this is what upsets a lot of ACE members and the executive committee. --Robb

Hey everyone, Would you all mind updating your Big Mike Signature Banners to point to this file: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/files/bigmikereaderrj7_113.jpg The ImageShack file produces a little red "X" anytime that server goes down. Once again here is the code to add to your signature: Thank you! --Robb

My pics on rcdb!
robbalvey replied to angryemobeaver's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think it's great you have your photos on RCDB. A lot of us do, in fact, hundreds of people, many of them TPR members also have their photos on RCDB. It's great and all, but I don't think we need a seperate topic for links to your pics. If you want, maybe you could also upload them to TPR as a Photo TR for our readers to see too? Just an idea... --Robb -

What a great thread! Thanks for posting these pics. I'm sure we can use some of them in the Park Index. If anyone else has to BTTF photos to post, please add them here! Thanks! --Robb -
Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
February 15th, 2009 Update! Here is the Aerial view as seen by the Cyberdyne HK Drone (aka Sky Tower View) Looks like this turn is fairly complete and ready for some track! Here you can see the dead man turn...not too many Popsicle sticks left laying around now! Remember when that whole back area was filled with Popsicle sticks just a few short weeks ago? Mr. Big Crane is lifting another bent into place. It's cool to see how they are working on two sections of the ride at once! I see some steel has been put into place for some of the cross overs. How about a nice closeup of that overpass? Another look at the Dead Mans Party Turn, Deja Vu featuring DJ Jazzy Jeff and some fresh paint, and a little cameo by Mr. Big Crane. You're looking at the future Terminator Salvation: The Ride entrance! I like the little make-shift bridge they've got going on! From the midway, Terminator is really taking shape! Each week the wood seems to get more and more dense. Terminator only went vertical just under 1 month ago and look how much is already done! Cyberdyne Systems crew is inspecting the ride. There's that new brand spanking new bent going into place! I have a feeling there will be a pop of airtime here! The Dead Mans Party turn almost looks bigger than Deja Vu! Looks like that alien transmitter has been covered in wood! Those Cyberdyne drones know how to disguise themselves! Two giant curves! Even on a Sunday these guys are still going at it. Terminator Salvation: The Ride, a yellow thing, a red thing, and a silver box. This area is going to look so much better with a GOOD woodie behind it! "It's a dead mans party...who could ask for more..." Another view of wooden sticks. Mr. Small Crane is still hanging around. But Mr. Big Crane is the center of attention today! I really, REALLY hope they get rid of the "Cyclone Bay" signs!!! Anyway, that's today's update! Hope you've enjoyed it. We will have more next week! --Robb -
Hey there Matt, While I appreciate your enthusiasm about the history of these two rides, it's been made very clear from management at Six Flags Magic Mountain why the changes on these two rides needed to happen and that it is not possible for them to return to their former selves. If you want to attend West Coast Bash this year, I have a feeling it will be discussed again. I'm going to go ahead and merge this thread with the SFMM discussion thread since we already have another topic about anything and everything SFMM related. --Robb

Thorpe Park 14/2/2009
robbalvey replied to Nemesis Inferno's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just playing devil's advocate here, according to the website it does say the following about this time period: It seems to me they've made the terms and conditions of this period very clear. It only took me one click to find this and the "Only Selected Rides Available" quote was on the front page very visible. While I understand it's VERY frustrating to get to a park and find many rides closed either to operational issues or the weather, isn't it still nice to have the park open one month early to at least "hang out" in? I know when I lived in Baltimore and we had our parks closed from October to March/April we took the opportunity to go to Hersheypark during the winter event where there were NO COASTERS OPEN and very few other rides open just because it was nice to have a park to go to. And as far as weather goes, to be honest, this is one reason why many parks aren't open in the winter. Even here at Six Flags Magic Mountain we have rides that cannot operate if it's below 60 degrees or if the wind it blowing too hard. Yeah, it sucks, but ask yourself this - would you rather have a park to hang out in or not? Are you a season pass holder to the park? --Robb
