Disagree. LOL! I'm not sure what kind of butter you're used to eating, but this statement would only be true if your butter has nails and glass shards in it! I also do not agree that the difference is that significant. I believe that some people want others to *THINK* that "I got a better ride on the coaster than you did because it's not easy for anyone to ride it at night." I also disagree and feel this is a pretty arrogant comment to make. I have one of the highest coaster counts of anyone in the world (I think I'm #2 on Coaster Counter by last check) so I think I'm pretty conditioned to woodies. In my "conditioned opinion" I think Voyage is one of the more uncomfortable, un-reridable woodies in the world. Every time I have ridden it - morning, noon, night - rainy weather, HOT weather, etc - I feel like I'm getting the crap kicked out of me. I can't go more than 1 or 2 rounds without having to stop and do something else. I feel like I HAVE to ride it "defensively" by holding on to the bar as tight as possible trying NOT to get thrown around. IMO, that is *NOT* the sign of a #1 woodie. But I guess there are enough people in the world that don't mind getting the crapped kicked out of them due to how high it's been ranked. Basically, It's just not my style of ride. I appreciate it for what it is, don't get me wrong, it's just not for me. On the other side of the park though, Raven, is absolutely my style of ride! Quick, fast, smooth, with insane aritime! I could ride this over and over and over without ever leaving the seat! I can hold my hands up every ride and just let loose and have fun! *THAT*, IMO is what makes a great coaster experience! (And why it's in my top ten!) And as for Gravity Group coasters Ravine Flyer II and Hades are some of my favorite coasters in the world! I love the work they do, I just don't agree with the opinions on The Voyage. Looking forward to riding Fireball in a few weeks also! While I appreciate everyone's opinions to be expressed on this site, and while I'm totally ok with people having a difference of opinions, I think it's totally not cool to basically tell someone "You don't like the ride because you're not conditioned to ride it." That's total crap. How about just accepting the fact that someone may not like the same roller coasters as you...the same movies as you...the same music as you...etc, etc.... --Robb "Who still thinks The Voyage is the #1 over-rated coaster in the world." I didn't take any footage from the day, sorry. I was hoping to post a full POV of Termination Salvation: The Ride, but I'm still waiting to get my hands on it. Once I do, I will post it! --Robb -
TPR's Termination Day! Sunday, June 28th, 2009
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Photos and more from Termination Day! The goal of Termination Day was to let people get their fill of rides in on the brand new Termination Salvation: The Ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain. And get their fill they did! With morning and night ERT combined some people got as many as 35 rides in! I'd say most people got between 10 and 15, but if you were a crazy die-hard Terminator fan, you could get quite a few more! The ride was running AWESOME! It seems to have really broken in quite a bit since the opening. And night rides. OMFG. INSANE!!! I'll let the photos to most of the talking but overall it was a PERFECT event. (And I know I'm biased, but still!) ps. If you want one of those awesome Take the Tunnel shirts, order them HERE! And we leave you with the final explosion of the night to end this report! Thank you to everyone at Six Flags Magic Mountain for another AWESOME TPR event!!! Thank you to Dan and Jeff for the use of your photos! See you all very soon (we hope!) "If you haven't ridden Terminator Salvation the ride...at night...between the 10:26 and 11:04...when the moon is full...and two crows are pertched atop Sky Tower...and there is fudge melting in your pocket...then you haven't ridden Terminator Salvation: The Ride!" With one of the most awesome and enthusiastic ride ops ever!!! This was seriously one of the most awesome ERT sessions EVER!!! At night Termination Salvation: The Ride really does look more like a war zone! "Night rides will totally rupture your spleen!" Then came night ERT. And this is when the day went from AWESOME to OMFG Out of CONTROL! And of course there is a lineup for food! Ian tried to look sexy while playing pool...FAIL! Little dudes were taking the tunnel....on Mario Kart! Both cute AND hot! And if there is a TPR party, there will always be some of Robb's insane wing sauce! "Hi today we are doing our Dan impression and not going anywhere NEAR the swimming pool!" Um, shouldn't this be like MELTING Dan or something? If you think Dan should get out of the water...EMAIL HIM ***NOW*** mrt0ad13@aol.com Then to escape some of the heat it was off to the Alvey's for a mid-day break and dip in the pool! At lunch we had some interesting characters come hang out with us! Did we mention there was airtime? Curvy train with the sex box in the back! Fire, Fire everywhere...you're gonna get burnt! Awesome hair in the front row! Yup, that's the first drop there in the distance. And this would be the exact spot where you will hear "TAKE THE TUNNEL" shouted at the riders! Note! This is a "Station Fly-By" NOT a tunnel! Terminator Salvation: The Ride kicks ass!!! The Bebes even took the tunnel. Yes, it's true...the front of the train says "Transrail." The morning ERT session totally kicked ass! Some people got in as many as 23 rides! TAKE THE TUNNEL!!!! Barrels = theming. Four. There are FOUR Terminators in the final pre-show room. "Back in my day tunnels were made out of dinosaur bones!" And this would be an example of TAKING THE TUNNEL!!! Robb shows off the sexy new shirt designed for this event! Is TPR ready to TAKE THE TUNNEL!!! Most members of the resistance wear a blue shirt and tie. This dude was all over the place! You must first get past this chick to get to your Salvation. Barriers have been set up to defend the location. This is the Hunter Killer's view of the area. Finally, we arrive to the location of the transport shuttles. Sorry guys, this is a private event...oh, wait a second...they do seem to have the TPR green wristbands on! Wes says "I've found a different road to Salvation!" TPR member and SFMM awesome supervisor William briefed the new recruits on how to get to the transport vehicles. Good morning everyone! And welcome to your Salvation! We limited the tickets for Termination Day to 200 participants as we didn't want the ERT line to be very long...and it wasn't! -
Copyright n' Coasters
robbalvey replied to FLIPDUDE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Tomi, I'm not sure the advice you have been given is 100% accurate. Look at a book like "Mouse Tales" where the book, for the most part, tells "horror stories" about Disneyland and the Walt Disney Company. That book uses just about every copyrighted name in the Disney library that I can think of! And all it says on the back of the book is "This book is in now way authorized by, associated with, or endorsed by Disneyland Park or the Walt Disney Company." That book has sold millions and how does he get away with that? Now granted that is completely a different type of publication than what you are proposing, but my background in entertainment and as someone who works with other entertainment companies IP's EVERY DAY on multi-million dollar projects (and some of them are book publications), I think you may have a bit more flexibility than you're being told. For example, if your story is about fictional events going on at Cedar Point and it shows the park off in a negative way, you'll run into issues. But if your story is a comic interpretation of ACTUAL events at Cedar Point, that may be something else. Publications like Rollercoaster magazine and First Drop don't need to get permission from each park to write about them. I don't need permission for any parks for what we publish on the website. Do all political or satire comic strips need permission from certain companies that are sometimes featured in them? I'm not sure. If your use of the IP directly influences your product's sales, and the owner of that IP can prove that, you'll certainly have issues. But if the name of the park in your comic could be Cedar Point or Cedar Peak and sales of the comic wouln't be affected by the name used, I'm not sure if it's going to matter (or be noticed) by anyone. Another example, a "Star Wars" branded sci-fi book is probably going to sell a lot more units than a generic "sci-fi" book. And if you're going to write a Star Wars story you'd better make sure you have the rights to do so and have a royalty agreement in place. Just my thoughts (but don't take this as real legal advice!) --Robb -

18/20! Not too bad! --Robb -
^ You should check out our Roller Coasters in the RAW DVD and iPod series. Tatsu, along with many others for example, are featured on those DVDs. We can't upload everything because then what would be the point of the DVDs? And the last thing we want to do is charge for viewing the coaster footage. Purchasing the DVDs keeps the site up and running and allows us to post even MORE footage in the future! --Robb "Buying a $10 DVD isn't asking too much!" Alvey

TPR's Termination Day! Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Please note that I have forwarded all these comments to Jay, Neal and everyone involved with Termination Day! Thank you all for your feedback! --Robb -
Volume 4 will be back to the traditional Raw format. 15 wood, 15 steel coasters and a mix of new and old. Too early to make a list as we'll be shooting footage all summer long! Hopefull to have as many "new for 2009" coasters as I can get in there, but it depends on how much footage I can get from each park. --Robb

robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Just got back from night ERT. The ride was running CRAZY INSANE tonight! While the day rides are good, the night rides are SIGIFICANTLY better! The park extended our ERT until 11:30 (they started a little late due to Kobe Bryant being in the park), but the extention MORE than made up for it! Thank you Six Flags Magic Mountain for another *FANTASTIC* event!!! --Robb -

Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
So you'd rather wait in a line and watch nothing? I'm not sure I understand your complaint. It's not as though while you are watching the pre-show a bunch of empty trains are being sent out because you're not in the station. You're not going to get on the ride any faster by NOT watching the pre-show. The pre-show is there to give you something to look at while you're waiting in the line. The alternative is to just stand in an empty room full of people, or worse, outside in the heat waiting through a bunch of switch backs. Is that really better? --Robb "Without the pre-show the queue wouldn't be much different than Superman: The Escape." Alvey -

Bring your bathing suit and come hang out in our pool tomorrow at the party! --Robb -
It's something that's not really been done before. Sure this "type" of coaster has been built at other parks, but not to this size or configuration of elements. What's wrong with it? It's going through testing. If all testing went without any problems at all, it wouldn't be called "testing" now would it? --Robb "I'm happy they are working the bugs out NOW instead of opening it pre-maturely and creating long downtimes." New show at the All American Melodrama Theater! Check it out... ALL AMERICAN MELODRAMA TO PRESENT SCI-FI SATIRE: “SPACE TREK.” (Long Beach, CA) Something intergalactic has landed in The International City and just in time for the Summer Blockbuster Season. The All American Melodrama Theater and Music Hall, Southern California’s newest family entertainment venue will present its next production, "Space Trek”. This hilarious space opera satire opens July 10th and runs through the summer until August 30th. The family friendly, fully interactive comedy, takes a loving jab at the science fiction genre. Audiences will cheer the hero and boo the villain as they join Captain Smirk, Mr. Schlock and the rest of the crew on their latest galactic quest. Notorious bad guy, Juan Montabaln, is seeking to unleash his wrath upon Space Fleet, and to do that he will need the help of a princess, a farm boy and a henchman with a respiratory problem. The All American Melodrama Theater is located in the downtown Long Beach waterfront’s Shoreline Village and has just celebrated its first year of operation. From the minute one approaches the mint green, barn-like structure it’s clear that this is the place for an innocent good time. Large cartoon-like faces, reminiscent of Snidely Whiplash and Dudley Do-right, grin down at the passers-by. Peeking in through the front doors one finds a brightly colored, Victorian-era Music Hall, complete with a mounted moose head, placidly surveying the audience. Once inside, the theater is cozy and intimate, seating under 100 people, so that all seats are up close to the action, making it even more inviting to boo, hiss and cheer the characters in the play. "Our venue is about good, clean, affordable, family entertainment.", says Ken Parks, the theater’s artistic director. “In these hard financial times, we offer a nice entertainment alternative for the price of going to the movie.” Our “Kids Free” and “Birthday Free” promotions are huge hits.” "Audience members are finding us and realizing there's nothing like it and what a bargain. “We are quickly becoming a Southern California tradition." “And what could be more All-American than sitting down at a checkered tablecloth with a hot dog and popcorn to watch a great comedy melodrama where Good always triumphs over Evil?” The All American Melodrama Theater offers a combination of casual dining with a live show and is now presenting shows four days a week with show times as follows: Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 pm. Saturdays at 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm. Sundays at 2:00pm & 7:00 pm. Doors and concessions open one half-hour before show time. All seating is general. Reservations are recommended by calling the theater at: 562 495-5900. For more information call the theater or purchase tickets online at the theater’s website: www.allamericanmelodrama.com.
