The Official iPhone Discussion thread
ernierocker replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
It looks like the early upgrade will indeed just be for current iPhone users. http://news.yahoo.com/s/macworld/20100607/tc_macworld/attdetailsearlyiphone4eligibilitypricing I was tempted to get the 3GS when it was rumored to be lowered to $99, but that price will only be for the new 8GB model and I am wanted at least 16GB. So, I think I will go with the newer model over the $50 savings to go with 3GS. -

I read somewhere that if your current contract ends sometime in 2010, AT&T will allow an early upgrade to buy the new iPhone. I am assuming this means that you will be able to get the $199/$299 price for the 16MB/32MB models. If this is true, looks like I will finally be getting an iPhone earlier than November. -
Nice Mallrats reference!!

I first read about the time period of the "Across the Sea" episode being around 20 A.D. from spoiler sites. This was probably discovered from production notes or from interviews with producers/cast members. I am not sure why it didn't just have a caption saying the year like they did in the Richard-centric episode. They were definitely very sloppy in closing the loose ends on the mythology aspect of the show, probably because the final twist dealt more with the character aspect and they wanted enough time to set that up with the flash sideways. That probably explains why Dogen and Ilana's character seem so wasted because they didn't have enough time to explain their characters more thouroughly.

I can buy that. I like that a lot more than the whole six seasons was just a fancy version of purgatory. I really hope they do a Question and Answer and explain some of this crap. Like what the hell was up with Jacob's Cabin?!?

Let me see if I got everything straight. The Flash Sideways was actually an epilogue of sorts. When they all died during the show they went to this "place" and they couldn't move on until they all connected with each other. So, they all had to wait until everyone died. I am assuming the Flash Sideways was taking place well into the future because Hurley and Ben were aware that they had spent time on the island together protecting it. Hurley to Ben: You made a great #2. Ben to Hurley: You made a great #1. And evidently there is now a large camp of fans that are saying that they all died at the beginning of the show and the whole island was purgatory (which is specifically what the writers said it wasn't) and they were trapped on it until they could move on. (i.e. the whispers) Supposedly, Locke was reading a book called "An occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" at some point during the show which is a short story about purgatory and the wikipedia article about this story leaked on Twitter 5 hours before the episode aired. I don't know what to think about all that.

I need to get off my butt and order one of these. From what I have seen the quality is definitely worth the money! I am really impressed with how you guys are always willing to keep your product fresh with new ideas. Seriously, Blu-Ray production and copying is NOT cheap right now. The technology to store and burn these things has not done a good job of catching up like DVDs, so major kudos to you guys for taking a chance!

That episode was simply amazing!

I definitely think it will be Jack, but I think Smokey's replacement will be another character not Locke. I have thought the same thing about Eloise and hope they don't just leave her character open. Also, all of you Ben lovers out there will not be disappointed after this next episode Tuesday night.

The time period of this episode was 20 A.D. or something like that. After reading some spoiler sites, I assumed everyone knew that but I just realized they never showed that during the show. So yeah, it was quite a bit before the black rock and MIB was just taking the form of his old body. With all the development that has happened on the island, (the lighthouse, temple, ruins, etc.) Jacob brought several groups of people to the island before the black rock. As for why his skeleton was still there, remember that Locke's body is still on the island and he has taken form in Locke's body. I think we can assume that Christian Sheppard's body is still on the island somewhere after MIB took his form.

I thought we would find out a lot more about how the rules were created. We just know that Mother made it so that they could not kill each other. I guess Jacob didn't technically kill his brother since he became the smoke monster and still exists in some form. I am confused about the frozen donkey wheel as well. I still don't understand what Man in Black was trying to do with it to manipulate the light. Overall, the acting in this episode was superb. Hopefully, we will have a couple more flashbacks about them in the final hours of the show.

I know some people do not like the Jacob-Man in Black plot, but I personally can not wait for next week's episode. A LOT of mysteries (most from the 1st season) will be answered next week. I have been fascinated with Jacob's character since we first heard about him in Season 2. Whether you like it or not, this entire show has been revolving around this battle between darkness/light or good/evil. From the 2nd episode, when Locke and Walt were playing backgammon we were clued into what this show was going to be about. Even the main logo of Lost is white letters on a black background (except for the ending to last season where it was reversed, a major clue?!?). As far as Dogen and the temple goes, I think this is a plot angle they thought they would have more time to explore but simply ran out of time. It is kind of disappointing because these are the "Others" that Jin and Eko hide when we see them walking through the jungle in Season 2. Here is some major questions that I hope get answered: 1) Why did Walt's apparition lead Shannon into getting shot/killed by Ana Lucia and why did we hear the whispers before he appeared. I thought the whispers were only those who had died on the island? 2) What is the deal with Jacob's cabin? It was obviously originally for Jacob, but then Christian Sheppard (probably being impersonated by MIB) is the one that appears in the cabin. 3) How does Eloise Hawkins and Daniel Faraday play into this? They both seem to "know" what is going on in both universes. 4) What is the Smoke Monsters real name?

Yeah, last night was just a piece of crap filler episode. I don't think they are making this up as they go along. I have a feeling that the Jacob/MIB-centric episode coming up will prove that. Just have some faith. But, I agree this season has had a lot of filler for a show that has supposedely "run out of time" to answer all the questions.

While I agree with Larry that all the answers we got tonight were pretty much assumed, I felt that the way they presented us with this information was wonderful. I thought that the acting was superb tonight. I am assuming that next week is a Jin/Sun centric episode?

Done! Pretty fun little game.

Another positive about staying in Mandalay Bay is that you can walk all the way to Excalibur without actually going outside. This is especially useful in the summer months.

The north part of the strip is okay until you go north of the Sahara. Between Sahara and Stratosphere is where it gets a little interesting. Nice TR Larry!

Finally got to watch this week's episode. Did anyone else find the ghost kid creepy? My guess is that he is Jacob as a kid. Terry O'Quinn is doing some serious acting so far this season.

So, you are saying these recent Intamin accidents weren't accidents but actually a little preview of the carnage to come? Interesting. -
I actually like the Winter Olympics more than the Summer Olympics. It's probably because there a lot more unique sports than what you find in the summer sports. This might finally be the year that I figure out the rules to Curling, who knows.

That is correct, the smoke monster has only taken possession of those that have died. He also took possession of Jack's dad and Alex. Looks like he mainly uses them as ways of manipulating his plans. He used Jack's dad and Alex to convince Ben to bring Locke back to the island. I think the "sickness" is when someone is consumed by the evil or dark force that exists on the island. I don't know if it is the smoke monster or something else. I think Danielle probably had it, but she was obsessed with finding Alex which might of saved her from going completely crazy. Same thing with Claire. She will probably be obsessed with finding Aaron, and yes I believe she will treat Kate in a similar manner to how Danielle treated Sayid at first.
-
One interesting fact from last night was that Danielle was actually dead years before Oceanic 815 crashed. There are a lot of similarities between Danielle and Claire. Both were pregnant when they came to the island. The Others attempt to take both babies (they are successful with Alex). Both, have evidently been killed and brought back to life. Both, become crazed, sharp shooters. I think I have figured out why the Others always try to get the children and babies. Maybe, the smoke monsters (man in black) can easily possess children, so the Others must take them before he has a chance. We also now know what the "sickness" is.

^My theory on Desmond and Shannon is that in this alternate timeline, Jacob and the other guy (smoke monster) have not been meddling in their lives, so this is how their lives would of been. Daniel's mom doesn't show up in the past to convince Desmond to go the island, so he never went there.
