An interview with Mark Shapiro
rjholla2003 replied to TheGreatOne's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The declines that you're talking about is what he's trying to change. If you get families in the park, they just want to have a nice day. Just because you don't have the world's newest roller coaster won't keep them away, and that will help stabilize attendance. -
To add to my last post, I'll steal Chuck's post off of GadvUpdates.com: Also, I can't wait to hear the upstops on El Toro. I watched the Colossos video and that noise sent a tingle in my spine. Feeling airtime is one thing, seeing it in the video is another thing. But hearing it, that's something chilling!

I'd agree, but then there's things like this that I didn't even think of. (Stealing my own post from CoasterSims.) Mid June is a bit too pessimistic, especially with how construction speed has picked up. I agree that it sucks that it won't be ready for opening day, but they never were aiming for opening day for whatever reason, so keeping that in mind makes it less bothersome. if you look at the progress, how fast it's starting to get now that the coaster is getting lower to the ground, and if you pay attention to the little things (most of which you can't tell in pictures), you'd see how fast they really are going. This update showed a lot more of the little things that you usually have to see with your own eyes to understand how the coaster is probably at 35-40% done material-wise. (based on the 30% mark as stated in the construction journal and the work done since then.) Hopefully I'll be able to go to the next tour, I miss walking around the park in the cold.

My Huey Freeman avatar is lonely. Could you make my title "Live from The Boondocks" please? He just wants to let people know where he's from.

The stadium beer was pretty good. My favorite was definately the FedEx Caveman one.

Gillian's Funland Discussion Thread

It's a common pratice in more places than our lovely state. Developing on former landfills is actually not that bad. Usually the dump isn't open for a number of years, so the grass and other plants end up breaking down any of the garbage that would be troublesome, and there is no smell. Plus, since it's flat, it's easy to build on. Plus, anyone's who'se ever been to Jersey knows the only trashy/smelly part is the Turnpike outside of Linden/Elisabeth where the oil refineries. I just find it funny that the "trashy/smelly" reputation comes from a strip of highway that's maybe 3-5 miles long. -
Which raises the question, what is the maximum acceleration force that the launch exerts on your body. 1.5Gs average is impressive enough, but the maximum really can wow you. For instance, the average acceleration of your standard LIM coaster is .7Gs. But if you use an accelerometer and get the maximum force, it'll reach 1.5Gs. I still find that very odd since I find those launches rather weak. Dodonpa's average acceleration is somewhere between 2.7 and 2.8 Gs, so the maximum has to be breathtaking.

Just because someone is an A-lister to a park does *not* mean that they suck up to the park. Case-in-point: Steve Urbanowitz. (R.I.P) In the end, you'll believe what you want, and we'll believe what we felt. Nothing's going to change anyone's view here, especially when your body is telling you something without a doubt. It has gone on much longer than I think any of us have anticipated. Good day to you too.

I had a post that was lost in teh crash. I'll try to recreate it as best I can. Coasterlover, let's try to keep it respectable here. Just because someone has a viewpoint, or evidence, that supports the opposing view doesn't mean that you have to get disrespectful. Obviously, if there are *many* people on the internet that felt the pulsing there is pulsing. I've had friends tell me about the pulsing, and I didn't even ask them what the launch was like in a specific way like that. I've had kids come up to me at the summer camp I work at and tell me that they felt pulses during the launch, and I never mentioned it to them, nor prompted them to say it. The pulses do exist. Like I said before and will keep saying, I will always trust the words of the Intamin engineer who was explaining things about the coaster to people over someone who simply knows a thing or two about hydraulics. Obviously this is more conplicated and intricate than the systems you have experienced in the past. Also, if you ride it a lot, you can feel some of the things like how the acceleration stops around the 3.5 second mark on a strong launch. That's something where you won't get overwheling testimonial abotu it because there are not many of us who got to ride so much. Also, I'll go with the official stat of the full acceleration taking place on average in 3.5 seconds. Especially when it's explained by an Intamin engineer that the longer-than-necessary launch is there to reduce rollbacks.

Welcome back to the interweb. -
I don't know anything about braces for teeth, but if it's a back brace, I'm your man! I have scoliosis; just a minor curve in my spine. I had a Boston brace for about a year, and I definately didn't wear it like I was supposed to. I was supposed to wear it 16 hours a day, which wasn't too bad when I got used to it. Sleeping in it was a chore though. I'm always scared of getting braces when I go to the dentist though since my two front teeth on the bottom are definately crooked. I remember asking hte dentist once if I needed them and he said "nope, everything's fine." I still think he's crazy, but I don't want braces either.

A Great Adventure season pass is good at all Six Flags theme parks. The three park pass I would imagine to be the same on the theme park end, but I don't know how Hurricane Harbor passes are. If you only have a Great Adventure pass instead of a three park pass, you can not use it to get into Hurricane Harbor. Last season, the theme park and safari (Which is Six Flags Wild Safari btw) were priced together. With the price restructuring, it appears that they will be seperate gates, so I do not know if a one park pass will get you into the safari anymore.

Try most important. Magic Mountain has been behind Great Adventure for years now. Someone on one of the forums I visit posted a link that showed all of the land that SFI owns in New Jersey. They have many plots of land that are not attached to Great Adventure at all. Some of them are vancant lots, others are rented out for cell phone tower use. Since they are not physically attached to the park, I can see those being sold. I hope that they do not sell any land that is actually attached to Great Adventure though since it holds near limitless possibilities. As for the two parks, I can see SFNO being sold. They have to rebuild it first though since that's the agreement that they reportedly have with the city, but I don't see it being rebuilt to the same status that it was, and I don't see it remaining an SFI park. As for the other one, maybe they cut the lease with SFMW, or get rid of Elich Gardens since I hear that's really doing nothing. Maybe then might go completely domestic and dump La Ronde and SFM. That's all of the senarios that I really see.

Whats the most involving coaster area?
rjholla2003 replied to ChrisFL's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Coasterlicious, are you the roller coaster enthusiast version of Gangstalicious? Superman Ultimate Flight @ Great Adventure is pretty good too. You can get decent shots of everything from the queue. -

But you can't see the tracks or the coaster go by in the Mummy que (or at least not in the Florida version) Im referring to what others said, where you're practically in the middle of the tracks or can go all through the coaster layout. True. I was using immersive in a different sense with that one. Another queue where the ride engulfs you is Talon. -

Scream Machine @ Great Adventure is pretty decent since the queue takes you right through the middle of the coaster. Kingda Ka is definately the most immersive @ Great Adventure though. You feel like you're in a different park when you're in the original queue. The temporary queue feels like one, but it's still pretty good. The most immersive queue I've experienced overall has to go to Universal Studios Hollywood's own, Revenge of the Mummy. That queue is simply spectacular. -
Just looking at the pictures you posted, I already see you made a better case for my argument. Think of how much steel that is. That would simply costs too much for any park to build. Then look at the footprint of the ride. That is simply too much land for most parks. The parks that do have the land don't have the money, or the desire. The park's that have the money, don't have the desire. Even with a more compact layout with less of those pesky BT problems that Real pointed out, something like my track "The Forgotten" is still a longshot due to land and costs.

Six Flags Price Increases
rjholla2003 replied to GAcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Dorney's passes are around ~$100 as well. Seems to be the CF pricing scheme. IMO, that's what SFI should do. Lower gate with less discounts and a higher SP.
