  1. My only issue with the "wings" is that for people with shorter torsos lik emine, it may block your vision from side to side. I do like a view.
  2. Wings? Yep, little "wings". It's hard to explain without a picture, so I won't try. Besides, my head hurts a lot right now.
  3. Lies. I lost my phone on Nitro, and it was in a velcro pocket. I'm all about the zippers now.
  4. I wouldn't go as far as to say they are "cheats", but I definitely agree that seeing a 400'+ lifthill would be beautiful. I'd ride that anytime. Could you imagine the anticipation building?
  5. Wow, lots to talk about here. Let's see if I hit everything I want to: First of all, how is Kingda Ka a "cheat"? Sounds like a sour CP fanboy to me... I'm going to smack anyone I see witha cell phone after Kingda Ka's lockers if they don't have zippered or buttoned pockets. That crap happened last year and had it down for a week. Boo. My guess is that he had the phone out to be cool and take a crappy POV. The force of the launch caught him off guard, he let go, and the train fell straight back into the launch track. One of the improvements made over TTD with Ka was the launch track. Because the cable was able to fray and spray up at the train during a snap, they made the trough that the catch car more enclosed for Kingda Ka so that the cable would be contained if an incident like that were to happen. This could be part of the reason that the accident was so loud if it was a cable snap. The trains are weighed before they launch. The train is actually launched based on the weight of the previous train and how it performed. This is a big reason in why the empty trains roll back more often than full trains. Because the trains have less mass, there's less momentum carrying the train up the tophat, so empty trains have to be launched harder than a full one. Since this was the first test launch, the train was going slower than it would have been if an empty train was launched before the accident. Lastly, the brakes on Ka are defaulted to the up position. If anything was to happen to the ride where it lost power, a pump failed, or anything that would affect the brakes, they would shoot up as they need to be forced down.
  6. Sounds nothing like water dude. Water wouldn't shut the ride down. Hopefully it's something small like a spectacular cable snap.
  7. According to the last construction journal entry, the track should all be layed by the 8th of May. Everything after that, it's your guess.
  8. Gotcha. I'm poor too, so I understand. As long as you don't mind the drive, it's all good. Just make sure to give yourself some kind of cushion with driving time. Lookint at the map on Google, I feel silly because I've driven past this motel way too many times to not know where it is, Exit 9 of the NJ Turnpike is right in E. Brunswick, and is actually right down the highway (Rt. 18) from the motel! Since you are landing in Newark, you will most likely use that exit to get to the motel to begin with. *edit* http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g46400-d92368-r3280810-Motel_6_East_Brunswick-East_Brunswick_New_Jersey.html There's one review of the motel on that site. Seems like it isn't bad.
  9. I've never stayed in a Motel 6, but I can say something about the location. I live a town over from East Brunswick, and you're not going to want to stay that far from the park. If traffic is light (which it probably won't be), it will probably be a 25-30 minute ride to the park. I'd personally give this page a look, as they are close to the park and have some deals. http://www.sixflagslodging.com/
  10. Not too bad. September tends to be a bit slow since the peak season is over, but Fright Fest hasn't started yet.
  11. I haven't seen an episode of SNL that has made me laugh that much in a long time. I've never been so excited to watch one either. It was classic.
  12. How does a ride look rough? Chiller was a head banger until they took out the OTSRs. Now it's a beauty.
  13. They've actually been a LOT better with getting the rides open. Shapiro's been on their ass and visits frequently, and Ron Sevart (The new GM at Gadv) doesn't want things like that ruining the experience. He's actually planning to have more ride ops in the stations then there are now to improve the flow through rates on the coasters, and have all available trains running. Arriving at the park and a lot of rides simply not being open is much, much less of a concern.
  14. Look at the difference between GA's picture and the picture I took a week ago: That doesn't look too slow to me. Did they start later than we all desired, yes. But that does not make it slow. Also, it'll be open in August. They're confident about Memorial Day (official, unnofficial word).
  15. Memorial Day Weekend, June, it's only like a day difference anyway. That's really nice to hear that the charachters were riding things with the kids. I didn't see that at all opening weekend. I'm suprised that Shapiro made two visits to Gadv on opening weekend. I knew he was there on Sunday, but I'm suprised to hear he was there on Friday as well.
  16. I used to go to Great Adventure by myself all of the time. I had access to the car, a license, and a season pass. No one else wanted to go, so I'd steal the car for a day and have fun. I got to do what I want, when I want, how I want. Now I have a girlfriend, so things take some more planning then "just go", but she likes to ride too, so it's all good. I don't have to battle about riding what I want, when I want because she knows that I know how the traffic flows in the park better. She loves the fact that I don't waste our time with long lines, standing in line for rides that aren't working ATM, but others just might not get it, somehow knowing if a breakdown is wirth waiting through, and all of the other talents us coaster enthusiast pick up over time. The only "downside" to that is that she doesn't ride Scream Machine, and we always have to swing by the shops in the GK to look at the stuffed tigers. I honestly don't mind that much, so whatever.
  17. You are correct sir. That's a pretty basic explination of terminal velocity.
  18. Mid-May? Try more like they are "confident about Memorial Day".
  19. Real definitely got it there. It's NoLimits Roller Coaster Simulator. It is not NoLimits Amusement Park Simulator. If you want a park sim, go buy one. If you're playing with NL, it's because you're concentrating on the roller coaster aspect. People IMO are stupid on the coasters for NL. It would not fit at all. It would cheapen the game into something that would end up leaving few happy. I'm not one for wishlist, but my main wish is that people stop asking for people to make absurd noises and drop the frame rate on my coasters. As for tools, i'm not going to get deel into that debate. But, I will issue this challenge. I've issued it before, and no one has ever taken it up. If you truly think that tools are cheating and that they are a magic wand, then I would like you to do this. Build a coaster using onlytools. Don't place a single vertex by hand (you may move the first one into position). After all, you're using Elementary. It's a magic wand, so everything will come out perfect anyway. Make your track only by making elements in Elementary. Don't worry about size or anything, because you're using tools. There's no skill involved. It's all going to come out perfect anyway. After getting your coaster all perfectly done in Elementary, read the speed at the beginning and end of your coaster so that you can plug them into the AHG. Don't worry about what the Gs are saying in the sim. Afterall, you're using tools! You don't have to do any real work! Run the track through the AHG and upload it to your favorite exchange. Enjoy the medals you'll win and the accolaids you'll recieve. You just created the best ride ever. It's flawless, all because you used tools, and not your brain. You cheated quite well!
  20. 1. Kingda Ka was open on opening day. El Toro, Not even close. 2. The cheapest are online if you saw them for $40. I know there's discounts on the site, but I don't remember offhand the price. 3. Traffic shouldn't be too bad. In the early season, lines are rarely long. You should be able to hit most, if not all the big coasters on Friday, provided you try Ka last. It's stumbling out of the gate.
  21. I finally got done the update for CoasterSims. Check out the new pictures!
  22. This is a wonderul thread. I've been looking into the internship at WDW for a while now since I'm a *takes long breath* Recreation Professional with a concentration in Commercial Recreation and Tourism major at my school. I'll most likely do it as soon as next semester, or the semester after that.
  23. Now I see why my family liked the zoo. They skipped off to the zoo when decided to go to SFNO. I'm still happy with my decision last summer.
