Cedar Point or Kings Island?
Scaparri replied to NINCUB's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Seeing how you haven't been on Raptor or Maverick, definitely go back to CP. Those are the best two coaster in all of Ohio. I'm actually somebody who loves Kings Island, but you're definitely missing out if you haven't ridden those two coasters at CP. -
EDIT: Video now posted at the bottom of pg. 3! So yesterday, Myself, Tyler (CTU Agent), Robby (BamaRob21), and our friend Keelan all ventured over to Six Flags Over Georgia for opening day to get our SF season passes processed. It ended up being the greatest experience any of us have ever had at a Six Flags park! First off, the crowds were non-existent and the weather was awesome, which automatically made for a pretty awesome day. We immediately experienced the wrath of SF's new ridiculous locker policy. As we tried to open the day with the Georgia Cyclone, we were informed that we couldn't bring any loose articles on it as well as Goliath, Scorcher, and Superman. Ok, no biggie, but instead of offering lockers all day for one price, you had to pay for one locker that only lasted for 2 hours and expired once you open it. It's a little shady in my opinion, but we worked around it, and the employees were awesome!! Their service set the theme throughout the day. If we walked into a store, we were greeted with "Hey guys, how are you today?" If we walked by a game, we got the same. If our harness was getting checked on Acro, the same. It was unreal. Everywhere we went, the employees were so polite and helpful. They actually acted like they wanted to be there. They pretty much made every other park's staff I've ever been to look like a bunch of douche bags. We were blown away. As we mentioned the crowds blew us away too. Nobody was there! Our longest wait all day was four trains for Mindbender. The rides were all running fairly well too. For once, I walked off Cyclone without any pain! It was unreal. The whole day was just a blast, and I really hope that kind of service is what we can expect at the rest of the SF parks from now on. It was really unprecedented. I've never experienced anything like it. Enjoy the TR! Just a little background for a particular picture: Throughout the day, I saw this guy that I saw during my first visit to the park back in '03. He's tall, skinny, and very mentally challenged. He seems to be in love with the park though. During my first visit, I rode GASM with him in front of me, and throughout the ride, he screamed "Dip, baby, dip!" I'm not making fun of the guy. I've never really forgotten him. He's one of those people that really makes me feel lucky to have what I do, but it's awesome to see him havin' a good time at the park. Anyway, I was really stunned and excited to see this guy again at the park yesterday. So yeah, you'll know what picture I'm talking about when you come across it. Again, Enjoy! Video will be up later tonight! Majority of the picture credits go to Robby and Tyler. Sadly, that closes this TR. Thankfully we found our car among the sea of vehicles! Robby, Tyler, how steep did you guys say that turn is again? This was simply stunning. All the supervisors and head honchos of the park came out and were telling everybody bye and thanks. We were all pretty blown away. The service we experienced throughout the day was unprecedented. I'm straight out of ATL, bitch! At this point in the ride, your seat is fairly pointless. That's what I'm talkin' about. Grab your Kleenex boxes, fellow coaster nerds. We see you over there Goliath... you need some more photos up in hurrr. You've been deprived during this TR. Dip, baby, dip! This might be the best kiddie coaster in the country. Seriously, it's better than a third of the coasters in the park! We took a break from all that hot, steamy coaster action for a ride on the Wheelie. Keelan, what is your opinion of GASM and Superman? Yeah, me too. In case you guys have ever wanted to know the definition of "meh." Thank God we got those gold flash passes today! On a seperate note, this picture does no justice to the new SF uniforms. Those polos are neon bright. A blind person could find an SF employee in one of those. Six Flags is very family friendly... Keelan sports what is quite possibly the most awesomely bad merch idea to come from the brains at SF. Seriously though... the most underrated coaster in the park. "What's up NOW?"- Scorcher Goliath embarrasses it. Poor Scorcher looks so sad and pathetic. Look at it! What a total MILF. Monster I'd like to... Robby grabs the reverse Monster Plantation POV. Sweet... Keelan, Myself, and Tyler "in line" for Monster Plantation. So messed up, but so awesome. The scariest freakin' ride on the planet. Whatever phobia is the fear of crapping youself is the phobia this ride should have been named after. No caption needed Lunch time! Let's go to the place that's also right down the street! I don't care, this picture never gets old. Keelan dry heaves into Batman's special barf bin, the "Toxic Accumulator." The gang minus Robby "in line" for Batman. Tunnel vision. Test seat stapling POV! "I had TWO orgasms on that ride!" Hey Jow. Thanks for the beer last weekend. Down zee drop... Mindbender is lookin' good with it's new coat of paint. Ahh yes... the sign of excellence. Jeez the crowds sucked today... Hmm... spring? Are you sure? Ninja upskirt for all you freaks... Seriously, it's not THAT bad. Here's the only good part of this ride. Flying Dutchmen > B&M Flyers Look at the awesomeness. America, $% yeah!!! After our puzzling ride on Cyclone to open the day, we headed to the main event. We walked off so confused. Our back car ride was actually really good and "smooth" for the Cyclone. "I want to eat your babies!" It's amazing how a coaster that isn't even THAT big makes every other ride in the park look so small. Son of a b... we better get gold q-bots today. Hooray! Off-season finally ends.

15/20... probably should have been 5-10 lower 'cause 90% of my answers were educated guesses at best. -
Photo TR: Jahan's Awesome TPR-Midwest Trip Report!
Scaparri replied to arrowfanman's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
That makes three of us. Heck, it's the closest park to my hometown, but I've been maybe five times in the last 10 years. I love all the woodies there (nothing but love for Legend), but the rest of the park is fairly bland. The water park would be awesome if it weren't for every freakin' slide having an hour wait and the pavement melting my feet off. I don't know, it's just gone from being a pretty special place to just "meh" for me. Awesome TR though, Jahan! I must say, I'm in Chuck's boat... I rode Voyage and was mind blown. But man, that thing is really going to suck in a few years. It's kind of a shame. -
American open wheel racing unified today! This is seriously one of the greatest days of my life! (If you were from where I'm from, that'd make a lot more sense) And to top it off, I found a friend today that I haven't seen or spoken to in about four years. It's been a good day.

Yeah, there is purpose for there anal-ness. It's fairly common for people to actually dislocate their shoulder from holding their hands up during the launch, so they'll repeat it as many times as needed. So yeah, it's not always a good idea to hold your hands up on launch rides.

American Idiot is a modern punk album. Punk began as a type of music that often was political. There was nothing revolutionary about them criticizing America in an album. Just because somebody criticizes their country doesn't mean they hate it. People criticize parks on here all the time but that doesn't always mean they hate the place.

^Agreed. Sure, there is a lot of rap or hip-hop that sucks something wicked, but you'll find that anywhere. Just listen to any pop radio station for an hour and you'll see what I mean. Even if you don't have an appreciation for rap, it's hard to deny that there are rappers out there that are ridiculously talented, whether it's musically, poetically, or both.

SFKK Northwest Territory
Scaparri replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^Yeah, I think you're probably right on Six Flags buying them. As for the height issue, while they'll never be able to build a true hyper coaster or anything, they still have a solid 150 ft to work with no matter where they are in the park, and at least 180 ft in the areas near the front. So it's not like they don't have the ability to build some major coasters, at least height-wise they do. Land-wise, they are kind of screwed at the moment. -

I must say, when I visited this past fall, the park was looking the best it has since the pre-flagged days. They really are slowly sprucing up the park with subtle changes. I'm 99% sure Top Eliminator has been removed, seeing how it's not listed on the park site, and it was surrounded by walls that said something along the lines of "building for the future" when I was there in September. Honestly, my fantasy would be for them to remove Twisted Twins as well. The rides aren't that bad, but they are a huge waste of space and are really unpopular. The combo of Twisted Twins' space along with Top Eliminator's would give the park a nice plot of land to work with. I'd love to see a THBS in Eliminator's area, and then place a few flats a Kanonen-style Intamin rocket in place of the Twins. But yeah, I'm dreamin'. There is so much that needs to be done to that place though. It kind of sucks as it is, but if they went about it right, they could use it's awkwardness to their advantage and make it a really interesting park. Overall though, I think they are moving in the right direction. The place looks so much better than it did two or three years ago. -
Yeah, I pretty much soiled my pants after the St. Bernardus. I didn't want to admit it. It made all other beers look like Keystone. She did! I wouldn't normally comment, but wow, she was racktacular. Oh, and the burgers were pretty awesome as well. I was impressed with it. It was a solid stout. I didn't taste the chocolate nearly as much as Young's, but the stout itself had a nice, rich flavor. It was definitely an awesome weekend. Thanks again dude!

Wow, this guy is good. I'm really impressed with what he had to say. I can't wait to see what happens with SF parks in the next few years. I really feel like Shapiro has the right game plan. Any worries I might have had are now put to rest. I'm particularly excited about his move towards more themed attractions. That was the one question I was particularly interested in and he told me exactly what I wanted to hear. The future is lookin' good. Thanks for the awesome interview, Robb! And thanks for asking a few of my questions, even I was directly the source!

Ask Mark Shapiro a Question!
Scaparri replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
-Is there any park(s) that is your inspiration for future development of the current Six Flags properties? Are there any parks within the Six Flags chain that you feel are examples for what the other properties should strive to be like? -Six Flags seems to really be striving to improve current rides (X), or remove rides that are problematic (Deja), which I really admire. Any hints at other attractions that might see similar treatments? -How important is an atmosphere produced from theming? A few 2008 attractions such as the Dark Knight coasters and the Thomas Town additions appear to be heavily themed. Will this level of theming be a trend for the future? -What type of attractions might we see Six Flags properties invest in for the near future (say, five years)? -It was reported that Six Flags may have an interest in building new parks in India and the Middle East. Can you give us any insight on this proposal? Down the road, will Six Flags ever take an interest in possibly building a new park in North America? I'd also like to echo Joey, Ross, Wes' questions. I'd really like to hear his answers to those. -

^True, but LeSourdsville was hanging by a thread as it was. IB is, and has been, a great success. -

^Exactly. The same thing happened when my brother's employer was bought out buy a major corporation. Everybody kept their same position. The company still works like it did before, except now the profit goes to somebody else. Hopefully, for the most part, that is what has happened here with IB. -
Maxx Pass Expiration Question
Scaparri replied to ajinaz's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My understanding, at least with my Maxx Pass to Knott's, is that it expires one year from the date that it is processed at the park. So mine will be good 'til the middle of March next year. -

Are they even going to replace the management? It seems a little odd that the founder's grandson would speak so positively about the future if he and the rest of the current management aren't going to be involved in anyway. At least they are stressing that this resort company is family owned. Granted, a lot of the times, that can mean jack, but it could be worse. I definitely think it's a little unfair to just assume that things are going to crap now, though. I'm just going to keep an "eh, whatever" attitude until changes actually start to happen. -
^I definitely agree. It just seems like SF is price jacking because they raised the parking price so much, but think about it... A single day ticket to one Universal park is $71 dollar. Their parking fee is $11, just $4 less than Six Flags. However, almost all Six Flags admission tickets are between $40 and $50 dollar. Yeah, the parking sucks compared to other parks, but the ticket price is still pretty good. And besides, unless you go to a smaller, less corporate park, the food pricing is going to be comparable everywhere. Who's really doing the price jacking? I don't think it's SF. If you were to get a Q-bot at an SF park, it's still not going to be that much more than a day at Universal, and you don't have to wait in lines. And don't even get me started on season pass prices. There is NO argument.
-
Eh, I've never really cared for them, but that's because I never had a problem with the traditional way and I usually can't afford/don't want to pay the extra money. It annoyed me for the longest time because the system worked so well at Disney for free. Then places like Six Flags decided to charge a ton extra for it. If you can afford it though, I'm sure it's worth it. I don't feel the system is unfair in anyway, for the exact same reasons that Robb and so many others have pointed out. I know if it was something I was willing to cough up the money for on a regular basis, I'd probably love it. I'm sure I'll be more accepting of it come next month, seeing how I'll not only be using it for the first time, but probably be using it three or four times within a couple weeks. Hopefully it'll save my arse during my Saturday visits to SFOT and SFFT, much like Ginzo just said.

^The trims on Raging Bull definitely kill the ride. And I can only imagine how insanely awesome Goliath at SFOG would be if it's trims were turned off. Despite this though, I don't think Behemoth was designed to have trims slow it down. I really think they are just an "in case." We'll see though. -
Lou, I love how even when it is hot as balls outside, you still wear pants. When will you learn? Great TR though! Even though the best part was probably 50 pages ago.

^If you stay in one of the CP hotels, then yes. Either way though, the normal price is only $42.95. The free drinks are definitely nice, but I don't really find Holiday World to be that good of a deal anymore.
