  1. A little off topic, but how long has Xcelerator been running 1 train for? I was there Sunday for the first time in a few years and it was quite interesting to see them only running a single train with parts of another sitting to the left of the brake run. That article about the park changing is quite interesting! I've generally been a fan of how Cedar Fair hasn't turned the majority of the park into a trashcan laden concrete jungle. Xcelerator was a stellar addition and Sierra Sidewinder was a great addition as well. Only two big rides that I didn't agree with and still don't are 1) Silver Bullet and how it doesn't fit into its surrounding area and instead just sits on top of everything & 2) Pony Express, because Pony Express. Overall though, I'm glad Knott's has retained its Ghost Town charm and friendly atmosphere. I'll definitely be going back more frequently than once every few years.
  2. They just keep putting more pieces on! I'm quite interested to see the final product. Just a thought, but I wonder how this effects the snow facade that they usually put over the castle? Perhaps they won't do that this year or they have new molds to fit over the 60th facade that's on top of the real castle roofs.
  3. Wow that is now the best themed ride in the entire park. Seriously though, as far as in park advertisements and ride overlays goes, this actually looks... Dare I say it... Alright? Definitely a lot better than just putting a train wrap on the coaster and calling it a day. Since Six Flags will never get rid of ads, I'd much prefer this to Viper and Revolution's tacky wraps.
  4. Tatsu is definitely the only coaster that is in dire need of a paint job this instant, but sadly the red on Viper is starting to fade and Revolution is still the half painted mess it was when Tatsu opened. Other than the nitpicky details, every other coaster actually still looks really good. It's a nice change of pace from the days of rainbow vomit X and faded Scream and Batman. In other news, Goliath is the latest Magic Mountain roller coaster to fall victim to specific advertising. Hopefully only one train gets wrapped (if that's what they're doing). Goliath: Monster Hunter The Video Game: The Ride.
  5. Just be careful what you say and post. Management actually does pay attention to this forum and if you give out information they will find out. Just a heads up. Otherwise, welcome and glad to see a fellow Magic Mountain worker.
  6. Wow forget the castle, it's a small world looks fantastic again! Interesting how they used that light blue to create more depth to the structure. Looks really good!
  7. Continuing the Dollywood trend, Thunderhead was not very enjoyable to me when I rode it in 2013. I remember the days when people were saying that it was one of the best wooden coasters and this and that, but boy it hasn't aged well... Another would be Dueling Dragons/Dragon Challenge. Again, rode it in 2013 when it wasn't dueling, but even still the ride wasn't that impressive or that forceful. I prefer the Batman clones. Finally, everyone hyped up the Raven at Holiday World to be one of the best 'terrain' wooden coasters around but I got off totally unimpressed and confused as to why everyone thought it was so good. Moral of the story, don't let other enthusiasts shape/make your expectations for you.
  8. I think the best answer is because no park has asked for one. If a park asked for it, they would make it. Also, the steeper the drop the longer the pullout.
  9. What? You really think that Twisted Colossus will be more intense than the rock climbing wall? OMG! THE ROCK CLIMBING WALL!!!!! This list makes zero sense... "Hey little Johnny....Do you want to do the rock climbing wall or that 400 foot free fall tower? They are the same level of intensity." Ahh see the rock wall is 400 feet as well. Magic Mountain forgot to advertise that as a world record. But you see, Six Flags would never be caught dead forgetting to advertise a WORLD RECORD!!!!1 After all, what is the point of building anything if it isn't the biggest, longest, or fastest??!
  10. Glad they updated the map, interesting that they didn't update the colors on scream though.
  11. Not sure if they were added or moved, but a lot of the sea trains have been moved due to the park vacating backstage land that they apparently don't own. Why the park doesn't own the yard behind Apocalypse or even beyond the access road behind Batman and Riddler's is beyond me...
  12. So officially, no name change? :/ Considering that the area is now going to be called the Screampunk District, I'd argue that the name Scream fits much better now then it used to. Not surprised that Scream isn't getting anything "new" added to it besides the paint job, the ride has been there for years and is no longer the focal point of the area. They don't need to sell it, they are now trying to sell Twisted Colossus next door. Will I be secretly disappointed if Scream doesn't get mulch or anything to cover the parking lot? Yes. Surprised? Not at all.
  13. The misters in yolo plaza still work, they have been turned off though since HIP because there is no need for them. From the sound of it, Screampunk District should be a very vibrant area next year with a lot of stuff going on in it. I too am worried about the shade though... A part of me dies every time the park cuts down a nice, full grown tree. Needless to say, I died a lot this year...
  14. ^Yes you were one of the few... I'm super happy that it's getting repainted. The track and support color look great in person so vibrant compared to how it used to be. Overall it's shaping up to be an exciting summer! Only a few more months.
  15. If anyone posts pictures this next weekend you will have your answer. It's gone.
  16. I could see Sky Tower getting turned into a giant ad. That would be a very Six Flags thing to do! Whatever the case may be, I just wish the thing was open.
  17. Their excuse is that it's too much of a monetary investment repair the elevators and bring them up to newer codes to make any sort of return. Should it have gotten to this state in the first place? No. It's sad actually. It's one of those things that IMO should warrant the investment no matter what. "Code" doesn't magically change for existing structures. Existing structures are grandfathered in. That's what I thought as well. However I was told that due to it being inoperable for so long as well as it needing a complete overhaul of the elevator system, the elevators would in fact no longer be grandfathered in and would need to meet today's standards. Which ties in to why it could be cost prohibitive to repair. Personally I don't really buy whatever the park's excuse may be. I would love to see it reopened sooner rather than later.
  18. 60,000 homes? That's insane! Their excuse is that it's too much of a monetary investment repair the elevators and bring them up to newer codes to make any sort of return. Should it have gotten to this state in the first place? No. It's sad actually. It's one of those things that IMO should warrant the investment no matter what.
  19. ^That was fantastic! Super cheesy and all but man I kind of wish commercials were still like that... Love the footage of Revolution. It's so barren around the ride! That might not actually last too much longer surprisingly. Newhall Land and Farm has just recently erected a brand new perimeter fence behind the park (Riddler's and Batman side) and they are supposedly going ahead with building a new development back there. Whether or not they actually go through with those plans and start building remains to be seen. There seems to be a threat of homes built behind Magic Mountain every few years but this looks to be the most serious it's been in a while.
  20. Yolo Stage will be back next year, better than ever. As previously mentioned it's a seasonal stage. It has to be taken down or inspected eventually due to California law as it is not a permanent structure.
  21. Part of Arrow was picked up by S&S yes, but does S&S still actively supply parts for old Arrow suspended coasters? I was under the impression that they were not (only special orders) which is partially why there has been a disappearance of many suspended coasters throughout the world.
  22. The park is actively working to get a second train back on Ninja. I wouldn't say that Ninja has limited years based on its on train operation right now. When the park only had two operable trains and one of them ended up hitting a tree and getting damaged I think it's safe to assume it's only going to be one train operation for a while. Especially since the parts to said train aren't readily available due to the company that made the ride being defunct for a decade. And Colossus ran backwards well before Psyclone was demolished, they just took the extra trains from Psyclone. Remember the good old days of having to wait for 18 (I think) people to sit in the train so there was enough weight that it would complete its course? Sometimes it took a while just to get 18 cadavers for the ride.
  23. I'm going to make a wild assumption and assume that there will be no TC backwards for the first few years of its operation. What is key to remember is that potential gimmicks like Colossus backwards were something that the park did during Fright Fest in order to drum up an extra marketing opportunity or reason for a guest to visit the park during that period of time. Besides its closing, the only time I remember ever waiting for a ride on Colossus was when it was backwards for Fright Fest (exactly what Magic Mountain was trying to accomplish). With Twisted Colossus, it will be a draw on its own so it is my assumption that TC backwards will not happen until the park feels that they need to draw attention back to the ride or need something fresh and new to market (both of which will most likely not happen for a while). Now, could I be completely wrong and Six Flags might keep up the tradition of Colossus backwards? Maybe! In actuality, we're probably going to have to wait a while.
  24. Based on this last week I would assume crowds will be quite heavy. The 22nd and 23rd were so full that the overflow lot was used. Might as well grin and bear it though if you need to get them processed.
