^*watches video again.* Hm. Don't know how I missed that. The only thing that I'm probably not going to like about NL2 is that I'll have to delete all the auto flange supports for my current coasters and put them in with the new system, and I have like 40+ coasters, too. -

Will you be able to use multiple terrain textures in one map? IE, dirt in one area, grass in another? -

1: Are pipe flanges automatically added to support columns? Will they have bolted connections? 2: Will the support dimensions be labeled in actual units of distance (mm or in.) instead of Small to XXL? -

^^I was going to ask how many people were developing NL. I thought it would be like a dozen, but three? That's impressive. -

Holy crap. Can we edit the sizes of the trees? Having all the trees of one relatively small size in NL1.X has really annoyed me for a long time. I saw that the bent spacing changer for the wooden support generator. Can I have multiple different bent spacings in one coaster (like for example, 10 foot spacing in low G spots and 5 foot spacing in high G spots?) -

^Oh good, now I won't have to be all over the place and I'll just use NL2 as soon as I'm done importing all my coasters. It's good that I won't have to use NL1.8 just to save the file. -

More questions for the NL dev team: 1: Have you fixed the error where when you try to make supports in a "subterranean tunnel" the footers end up being placed on the ground directly above? 2: Have you fixed the error where the wide auto wooden supports drop down to "sea level" in a map with terrain enabled? -
azza, just an FYI, the silos you took photos of were of the original chocolate factory which closed down in 2010, as they outgrew the facility and it was also the factory that the company started in, and they're gradually doing demolition (hopefully they'll keep the smokestacks for aesthetic purposes, though.) The new facility is a mile or two away.

When I try to recreate plots of land of real parks for my own designs, my process of making the terrain is as follows: 1: Google Earth a prospective park. 2: Save the relevant plot area as a .3DS file. 3: Draw a support template of the land plot in NL in order to scale up the .3DS file to a proper size, also because Google Sketchup only exports plots of land in rectangular shapes with faces oriented in the four cardinal directions. 4: Go into the Editor and drag the terrain tiles, one by one, until the terrain matches the approximate profile of the .3DS file. I use the tiles in the track editor and not the terraformer because they are smaller and thus more accurate, and .3DS is not visible in the Terraformer so I have no reference. (This takes many hours for larger rides.) 5: Use the terraformer to smooth out the rough terrain. Might there be a way in NL2 that you perceive may hasten this process? (Primarily in steps 3 and 4, where 95% of the work takes place.) Can we import terrain from programs with topographic data, like Google Earth? Also, might you be able to go into a bit more detail of the terrain editing system in other ways that I have not described? -

^Seeing as people have already asked this question, I think I'll word it in a less spoiler-ish way: Are there new coaster types that you have yet to reveal? Also, will all the coasters used in NL 1.X return? -

1: Have the errors for wacky banking on vertical track nodes been fixed? Is this just a problem for bezier curves? 2: I have no idea if TheRealEntropy (the guy who made Newton) is actually part of the NL dev team; if he is, are there plans to have an update to it that will export directly to an NL2 format? 3: Will the auto wooden support generator be any more updated than it currently is? (Basically in its current configuration, I have to probably do half the support structure of a wooden coaster by hand if I want it to be realistic.) 4: Will the heartline values for each of the coaster types be listed, so we can properly build their tracks with other third party FVD programs? 5: Will the professional version be able to export to any CAD file formats? -

^In that case, it looks like I might end up using Newton 2 and import my NL1 coasters into NL2. But I have a question about the 4D coasters: Can I still make a Newton file with an equivalent heartline, import the track, change the coaster type to Arrow 4D and then somehow change the track settings so that I can incorporate the car flips? Will the (typically) 2 meter long track lengths between nodes only permit incredibly rapid and jerky 4D flips or do I enter in the flips in a system that is independent of the length of the track segments? In short, are there any coaster types whose features cannot be used fully by importing a Newton 2-generated NL1.X coaster into NL2? -

Actually, this won't be as mechanically complex as you'd think; all you would need is just one big motor (or more likely a bunch of smaller motors) and it would revolve just like a ferris wheel. As for evacuation, the only thing I can think up of would be multiple backup generators supplying power to the motors, which is certainly within the realm of possibility. -

^Perhaps you may be mistaken of its location, for it is still on the boardwalk; I was looking at all the colorful "stuff" along the waterfront, and there it was, about 1,000 feet west of the park. EDIT: Now I see why you may be confused, for there are multiple Clancy's locations in the area. -

For Playland's Castaway Cove: Clancy's by the Sea (1244 Boardwalk, Ocean City, NJ) http://oceancity.clancysrestaurantgroup.com/ I had sweet potato fries and a Reuben there for lunch, and both were fantastic. Not too expensive, really nice atmosphere, and when I went (end of June, mid day) I was literally the only customer in the restaurant, which was really weird and awesome. To get there from the park, just travel about 1,000 feet west of the park on the boardwalk. -

The correct formula for the radius, assuming zero air resistance and friction, would be as follows. Symbol list: a = acceleration (units = m/s^2) g = acceleration due to earth's gravity (9.81 m/s^2) v = velocity r = radius When we are talking about the bottom of a vertical drop, a = g + [(v^2)/r], but the units of acceleration here are in meters per second. When we algebraically rearrange the equation to solve for r, we get r = (v^2)/(a-g). But if you notice that if you want to calculate the radius of the track throughout the whole bottom of the drop, that is extremely difficult to calculate: Assume that you instantly change from 0 to 3.5 G's (which will cause an extremely nasty pump, by the way) in order to keep at a constant 3.5 G's, rearranging our initial equation slightly will show that a-g = (v^2)/r. This means that if you want the centripedal acceleration to be a constant 2.5 G's, r will have to continually increase so that v^2 / r = 2.5*(9.81 m/s^2) at all times, so r will have to increase in a quadratic manner as time increases. But then if you want to get rid of that nasty pump, then you will have to vary how the acceleration changes from 0 - 3.5 G's in either a set amount of time or a set distance (depending on whichever makes the equations easier.) Though I know the basic mathematical concepts behind calculating the radius of the track as it varies in time (you will need to learn Differential Equations, which I learned last year as a sophomore in Mechanical Engineering) but the actual numbers and calculations required are absolutely ridiculous (dare I say impossible) without a computer, which is why coaster designs until the late 1980's were always more or less very rough and in the shape of regular geometric designs, because it was simply beyond the scope of human capability. And this is why Newton is so powerful, because all you have to do is enter in how you want the G's and roll angle to vary in a certain time frame, and then it will compute those values for you. Why do you wish to learn this in the first place? Are you trying to solve a (sounds like high school) physics problem, are you trying to build something in No Limits, or are you just curious about the bare-bones basics of the mathematics behind calculating the shaping of a roller coaster's track layout?

Tried some Goya ginger beer, expecting something relatively similar to ginger ale. Haha nope. WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more ginger. The drink was actually kind of spicy, and this was one of the very few foods/drinks that I ever ingested that I didn't like. (The cola champagne soda I had right beforehand, however, was totally awesome.)

^I read that the transfer track pieces could be scripted to move in any direction, so if there aren't any track pieces that do, it won't be long until someone uploads the script to make a track segment do that. -

Six Flags parks help/question!
Tanks4me05 replied to thejanuarylove's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Note: Though the US has more coasters than any other country, there are still many countries that have amazing parks as well. That being said, if you go to a country whose native language(s) you don't speak, I highly recommend doing one of the trips with TPR first. I know you want to go to as many Six Flags parks as possible, but if you just go to two or three, the season pass will pay for itself (most regions in the US listed below have that amount.) Here is a general description of the "coaster regions" of the US, and a little bit of Canada because some of their parks are close. I'll only list four or five of what would be considered the primary parks in the region, and whichever region sounds most interesting to you, I'll go into more detail of the other and smaller parks as well as a basic schedule to follow. Several of the parks may have cloned rides, but almost every park still has some unique rides that make them worth the visit. Please tell me if you want to drive or fly to these regions. If you want to drive, I will be able to graft other parks from other regions that are on the route. Northeast: Maine, New Hampshire, Montreal, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Toronto.
