Robb & Elissa's Europe Trip Schedule!
robbeal replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've been looking at popping over to a couple of those parks for a couple of day trips, so I may see if I can co-ordinate them, who knows. The main one for me is Walibi World, but that's a saturday, so unless i'm out of my saturday job by then, it's a no-go. Although, either Walibi Belgium or Liseberg are doable i'm sure on a day-trip. I'll see what I can do. Edit - Flights to Gothenburg for 1p! I'm having that! -
^So true. My Ford Fiesta costs me £30/$60 to fill, and that is about as small as anything you'd get in the states. 4 cylinders though, and even at 11 years old, its still nippy enough. Not quick by any means but it definitely does the job.

Amusement Ride Breakdown!
robbeal replied to Mr Stratosphere's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Got stuck just onto the brake-run of Nemesis: Inferno last summer. Sat there for 10/15 minutes, until they brought the evacuation steps around, and let us out on the catwalk to walk back round to the station. Not much, but you got views that you wouldn't normally see. -
Yeah, I noticed that, but it's not that you can't hire under 25, just that you have to pay a small surcharge, which wasn't much I don't think. I must check Europcar actually, as i'm hiring from them in Germany this summer, and there's no issue with age. Cheers for the advice guys. Got a few things to consider now.

How Old Are You & What Was Your 1st Coaster?
robbeal replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
21 years old. First coaster was Space Mountain at Disneyland Paris, in 2001. It seemed so smooth back then... -
Swamp Thing On-Ride Video
robbeal replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That has got some squeaking issues. I've never ridden one of these, just the converted Vampire at Chessington. I can't imagine them being so bad, but it seems that they really are. -
Insanity - Incident
robbeal replied to Mr Stratosphere's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can understand why they were scared, I certainly would be. But fearing for your life... where are you going that would snuff your life out? You're sat in a seat with a meaty restraint on your lap, you're not moving. -
Deep River Waterpark Construction Pics
robbeal replied to DRWP2005's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The dueling bowl ride looks like it could be a good laugh when there with friends (as opposed to on your own maybe...?!). I've got to get me to a decent waterpark sometime, the majority of the ones in this country are indifferent. -
NEWS: Adventure Parks Purchases Starliner
robbeal replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Being over here, i've never had the chance to ride Starliner, but to me, it does look like a nice ride. Okay, so it may not be the best, but I still think it'd make a great addition to Cypress Gardens. They're still building the place up, and a ride like this would definitely make it seem more complete to me. -
Favorite Photos YOU Have Taken

I'm not exactly reknowned for my photo-taking skills, but I think this one came out quite well. Shame about the annoying (and incorrect) datestamp spoiling it! Nemesis: Inferno & Detonator at dusk -
I actually can't remember if I ever posted in here, and 17 pages is a fair bit to sift through to check. Anyway, i'm Rob. I'm 21. I'm from Cheshire in England, and i'm at university in Liverpool, studying an Information System degree. I'm a big music fan, play bass guitar (to an extent, more just get a noise out of it than play it), play tennis, watch football/soccer (too much effort to play). I'm part of the team at Coasterforce. Only conquered my fear of coasters about 12 months ago. Meh, that's about it...

If it's got an entry on Coastercounter, it's a credit for me. Purely because that's the way I keep track of my count.

Safest Restraints and Manufacturer
robbeal replied to Mr Stratosphere's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ah, you see, i've only ridden Silver Star, which doesn't have a massive amount of airtime on the best of days. I'm not the bravest though, and I do like to hold on on most rides. I rode Expedition GeForce the day before, and after the 4th ride, I managed to coax my hands up on the last bunny hop. On Silver Star, arms were up straight away due to the comfort of the restraints! I know what you mean about the exposedness though. Back row of Silver Star was very exposed. Nothing behind either. I was gripping the restraints good! -
SFNE is the first place to hit currently, unless anything changes before then. Logan Intl was the plan, flown to there before, but if there's probs getting out of Boston at the moment, then maybe Bradley could be looked at. To be honest, I was planning to get the transatlantic flight booked as a return from one place, probably Philly, and then get internal transfers to and from there. Makes the cost of the transatlantic leg cheaper. So, is public transport (trains, buses etc) really that bad in the US? I'm not too fussed if it takes a bit longer. I'm not entirely sure whether it'd work out cheaper in the long run either.

Daniel Craig'll be a good Bond I reckon. He played his role in Layer Cake well, and showed of some of both the laid-back style that is Bond, and the grittiness that they want to bring back. I agree with 'Movieguy' that maybe Clive Owen would've been a better choice, but i'm happy enough with Dan Craig.

Ben Kweller - Wasted & Ready, oooh, the track just changed, it's Attack of the Ghost Riders by the Raveonettes now.

Yep, straight. My girlfriend of nearly 4 years will vouch for that if need be. I hope there shouldn't be a need, but, erm, yeah.

That is an option, but it'd mean a re-plan in trip terms. The original plan was to drive full-length of the country over a month, from Massachusetts to Florida (or the other way, hadn't decided). I guess if the southern half of the trip was left out, then a loop around Mass, Ohio, Pennsylvania, NJ & Connecticut could work. Having said that, my research last night brought up prices for the trip from Avis, and they quoted $1800 for a month, which actually isn't as bad as I was expecting. I was expecting more in the region of £3000.

Realistically, now that i've ridden Rita, it's either Velocity, Flamingoland's motorbike, or the X-Car at Drayton Manor. Both will be completely new concepts to me, and I expect both will be such fun. SheiKra & Hades have also got my full attention, but I won't get to ride either this year (SheiKra next year hopefully!).

I'm not too keen on doing a pre-organised trip to be honest, i'd rather have a bit more freedom on what I do. If I don't feel like going to a park one day, just rest and chill out instead, that sort of thing. I'd love to be able to do the driving myself too. I'd love to be able to drive around a foreign country, seeing the sights. It's just the logistics of it all.

This isn't a question to anyone specific, just need a bit of advice/help/something like that from any US members. I'm planning to come over from the UK with a friend next summer, and the intention is to journey down the east coast, hitting parks on the way. The one thing that is weighing on my mind a bit is how i'll go about getting around. Car hire is expensive, especially with leaving it in a different state to the one we pick it up in. I've contemplated buying something cheap, but that's possibly not the easiest task, and can't rely on finding something, and then there's insurance to contend with. Does anyone have any helpful, kind advice?

Safest Restraints and Manufacturer

Clamshells. Great restraints. Just so cool, and so damn comfy too. I could sit there and fall asleep in a B&M Speed Coaster seat.
