  1. Okay, thanks for the info. I guess I should aim to hit Goliath, Superman and Raging Bull as early as possible. Anyone know which coasters are likely to have one-train ops? You should hit up Raging Bull in the afternoon, too. It gets a lot of crap for being kinda slow, but honestly the first drop is one of the best I've experienced and the twister section after the MCBR can be really fun once it warms up. I'd say focus on Goliath, V2, and Whizzer first since they all are low capacity. If another local wants to trump me, go for it. I've only been in Chicago for a little over a year.
  2. With this in mind I figured I might have to splash out on a Flash Pass on my visit in a few weeks' time. Except...I'm going on Thursday 19th May and the online store doesn't offer Flash Pass for that date, or indeed any other date in May when the park closes at 1700. What gives? Do they really not sell Flash Passes on a day when the park is only open for 6.5 hours? Not too sure :/ I'm sure you can buy one. I only bought a FP once last year since I visited a couple other times and got rides in before noon. I'd just call them, I'm sure they can give you an answer.
  3. I rode it for the first time back in 2011 and I couldn't believe how terrible it was. I'm not one to complain about painful rides, but I made the mistake of giving it another chance - actually, one more chance in the back car again and another in the front row - and actually walked off with a headache. Honestly, the back of the train (the outer seats, specifically) have been rattly since it opened in 2009. The worst part of the ride is the bottom of the hill between the exit of the hammerhead and the trimmed hill. It's like riding through gravel. Row 2, best ride!
  4. The park was absolutely slammed every single time I visited last year. Opening day last year was crazy, most coasters had one train ops (Goliath's line was probably 3-4 hours, one of the longest lines I've seen), and I think we ended up leaving at noon. To really enjoy this park, you need a Fastpass. Even on a day sure to be less crowded (rainy Sunday afternoon) it's just slammed. Buy the Fastpass and hope the major coasters are operating.
  5. Well done 10/10 A+ Although not as creative as LaserSnakeHorseOnFire shirts
  6. This ride is really impressive. Fingers crossed for everyone that it continues to run at that killer pace!
  7. That's disappointing because Banshee's are pretty tight IMO. After 5 rides, it really starts to wear on my collar bone. After Bansheebash/ERT sessions, it's pretty uncomfortable. But I highly doubt I'll ever be getting more than 5 Valravn rides in a day so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  8. I think that the reason they are using these restraints is because they are more comfortable. They are the next generation of restraints on B and M. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for once again adding so much to the conversation. We can always count on you... Coasterbill, you're so consistent. Don't change. (like the restraints on B and M)
  9. Oh. Well in that case follow all of our advice on Day 1 and go to Cedar Point on days 2,3 and 4. No, you're doing it wrong. Since he's poor and has 4 days to spend, Mt Olympus is the clear answer.
  10. If you're going to the park 4days, I'd just make sure to hit the low capacity rides first - one each day. V2, Goliath, Dark Knight, and then reride a fav. Superman usually does the Single Rider line, but not sure how it works. Viper's full queue is only 30 minutes. I mean you can probably hit Goliath, then XFlight and Demon in the first hour. If it doesn't look fun or worth the wait, then don't ride it. Asking the forum to plan your park visit by ride is ridiculous. You can search this thread for trip advice and find a book's worth of info, so try it out sometime. Its a good park with a great, diverse collection of rides. It just isn't operated the best.
  11. I'm glad that resort is gone. Stayed there once and it was probably the worst hotel I've ever been in. Stained floor, fdirty, cheap. It looked like it hadn't been touched since the 70's. The fact that they were allowed to use the name "resort" is beyond misleading. As the park continues to pull in massive crowds, build up the waterpark, and add new attractions it's beyond me why they haven't established their own landmark hotel/property.
  12. It's a USA today article, I would take it with a grain of salt and wait until the park speaks.
  13. Damn, I've missed these reports. Excellent photos and the captions made my day. I've never been to SLC or much of the west coast, but I now have endless things to do if I do go! Thanks for taking the time to tell your story, Erik and Smisty
  14. Oh! Sea World San Antonio had an awesome flume. They removed it in the last couple years. I'm not even sure if they replaced it with anything to be honest.
  15. Wild West Falls at WB Movie World Australia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_West_Falls_Adventure_Ride I'm also a fan of Great America's flumes. Nothing fancy about them, just a big drop! Carowinds and Kings Island's flumes are the least fun I've been on.
  16. I miss that ride. One of my favorites of all time! Thunderhead was running on an insane level when I visited in July two years ago. I don't see myself visiting this year, but I can't wait for the next time I do. But now that I've been to SDC, there will forever be the struggle of "Hmm...SDC or Dollywood?"
  17. I'm surprised they didn't pull the ad with a substitute for a generic Dollywood promotional ad. Retail advertisers or movie companies like Bass Pro or Disney have different promotions running each week and would for sure pull the ad if they were about to run a "come to the theater/store this week" when the sale/movie didn't start until the next week. It's a simple phone call and traffic swap! Source: I work for Turner and do this often for advertisers like the two above.
  18. I keep seeing these Instagram screen shots - is there any credibility here? With random pictures of the ride being posted and then "super inclusive info", has someone confirmed these people are actually with Dollywood/RMC/etc?
  19. I never thought I'd see this, honestly. I've also only been on Outlaw Run and Goliath. 1) Outlaw Run. One of the craziest coasters I've ever been on. 2) Goliath. Still a good ride with a lot of unique/kick ass elements in a compact area, but RMC's aren't supposed to be contained to a small area, IMO.
  20. Thanks everyone! I'd definitely budget for a fast track if I plan on going. I feel like I should at least go to one theme park while I'm overseas. The coaster collection looks pretty good, and the flats seem unique as well. I'm sure I'll post later when plans become concrete -Zach
  21. Hey everyone! I'm looking into a trip to London/UK in the fall, specifically the last week of October and into the first week of November. Looks like I have a change to visit this park. It seems pretty accessible by the train! I believe the Fright Nights would be going on at this time. Is Thorpe Park slammed during Fright Nights like most other parks are? Is there a front of the line pass to ride the main attractions quickly? Is their "Fright Night" worth staying around for at night or should I just get a couple rides in on each and head out? Appreciate it! My specific days of being in London would probably be October 27-Nov1.
  22. The park's coaster line up is so unique. TNT, Wildfire, and Powder Keg are all pretty intense rides. Outlaw Run is a step up and Fire in the Hole is a step down. They've already got everything they need, IMO. The only thing I'd say they're missing is a lengthy coaster. But a good portion of their guests are too old/big to ride the coasters, so I think they could focus on something outside of the coaster department. If they do already have something in the works then that's cool. I'd love to see a hyper/terrain coaster that delivers a solid 3 minute ride duration. Or if it is a wing coaster - don't focus on the inversions.
  23. It looks really intense. Really impressed with the layout and interaction with the Jurassic Park land/paths below. Looks like they took the scene of the movie and brought it to life. Props, USJ.
  24. I'll pass. OMG no one will see the painful coathangers on Ninja coming up and be able to brace for them! Oh those poor souls..they'll think an alien broke their neck instead of the shitty ride. I could also see a few of these being stolen.
  25. I really wish people would stop trying to decide how the ride is based on an off ride video and the speed it appears to be going when someone who has ridden it says it has great pacing and forces. Jeebus. Don't worry Dave, today is a new day and all the Cedar Point fanboys will be back in that thread oogling over support placements. Really appreciate the reviews and photos, I know it's easy to see some replies and lose motivation to take your time to share, but please keep it up! Overseas parks would be dominated by pov-reviewers without your coverage!
