  1. I'll go with B&M on this one even though I never rode an Intamin stand-up. Liked Green Lantern, disliked Mantis, but I hate Shock Wave at KD much more.
  2. Definitely: Hersheypark Dorney Park Knoebels Six Flags Great Adventure Likely: Kings Dominion Busch Gardens Williamsburg Cedar Point Six Flags Great America Possible: Kennywood Waldameer Park Conneaut Lake Lakemont Park Dollywood It's probably going to be a quieter year than 2013, but I may get a few new credits here and there.
  3. As I was walking past Tidal Force to go ride Lightning Racer at Hersheypark the other week, I hear this kid behind me say that he wishes that ride was open right now. It was around 40 degrees out at 9pm in the evening...
  4. I think this needs a bump since someone just replied to a spam thread.
  5. Also Pg.8, along with Skyride cars!!! Those cars are from the old Windmill kiddie ferris wheel attraction that was in the back of the park. It looks like several of those signs are from the Turnpike ride, which I believe is possibly being removed for a new attraction (at least that is what I heard mid-way through the season).
  6. Day #2: Six Flags Fiesta Texas: (see bottom of the page). Day #3: SeaWorld San Antonio: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1399036#p1399036 Day #4: Six Flags Over Texas: http://themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1463685#p1463685 _________________________________________________________ Days 0 and 1 My first flying experience and Schlitterbahn: Before this trip, I have only traveled by car and have never gone more than 300 miles from home so a lot of this trip were things that were new to me. After having to sit at the end of a row with a girl who got sick, but moving to another seat and feeling queazy myself on the first flight, the second was awesome. The feeling of takeoff was like riding a coaster with a gradual launch and the view of Earth and cloud formations from 3/4 mile above is breathtaking. In between the flights, I had a good seven hour layover in Houston which was spent exploring the terminals, having fun on the speedy moving walkways, riding the monorail a few times, having lunch at Fuddruckers, and watching a season of Insane Coaster Wars. At San Antonio, I pretty much sat and searched the Internet for an hour or two and watched an employee at a small convenience store clerk try to tell a guy who didn't really understand English that they just closed and were cleaning up for the day. Once a few other TPR members showed up, we shared a cab to the hotel. I pretty much crashed for the night in my room and fell asleep. Next morning, I packed my swimsuit, had breakfast, then loaded up the bus for the first unofficial park of the trip: Schlitterbahn. Some people are waterpark people and I am one of them. After a good 45 minute drive of park info and getting to know everyone, we arrived. One of the things that kind of rubbed off as odd for this park is the way the park handles admission between the three of them. All guests must wear a wristband and there are no line of ticket booths or turnstiles, but park employees visually looking for the bands as people walk by. As for the slides, they were great. We first had ERT on Master Blaster, which has been frequently shown on many Travel Channel shows and I have to say that because of the frequent attention of this, the ride never really interested me too much. After riding it, I still think it is kind of overhyped, but still enjoyable. It did have a few pop of airtime, but it tried to shove water up my a$$ in places I never thought it could go. The Black Knight tube slides were enjoyable and managed to get two rides on it before our ride on The Falls, their new lazy river. Schlitterbahn is famous for their lazy river/slides, which pretty much act like a maze around the three parks and The Falls is their newest and longest water ride in the world. The first part from the conveyer lift to the second park was kind of slower compared to the other, which was crazy. They did seem to have trouble with capacity of the lift hill later on. Over at the second park, our group did Dragon Blaster a good two or three times with a wait time from 15 to 30 minutes each time and it ended up being worth it. I feel it is underrated and is probably one of the best waterslides I've ever been on. I do wish I had my glasses on so that I could see the effects! Buggie Bahn was kind of a bust IMO. Being experienced on the normal Flow Rider models, I though that I wouldn't have any issues with this thing. After heading down the ramp and into the main portion, I straightened out my board and stayed there for five seconds and figured I'd do a barrel roll... well, I nailed it and pretty much ended off the side of the attraction ending my session. After doing the random torrent of river a few times after that my group boarded the 70s busses and went to the original park where we first did the Congo Expedition. After waiting in an hour long line, we got in the freezing water and spent the next 20 minutes doing down random drops, over rapids, and going on forever. As someone who has enjoyed Riptide Run at Dorney Park (now it's being removed), I have always wished that there was one that just went on forever. Let's just say that this place was a dream come true. Most of the river slides did have some issues with current flow and I could've done without them ending up in the creek, but it was awesome overall. After getting lunch and having time for one more slide, we did the second part of the falls, took a few laps on the insane six-foot high waves in the lazy river in the wave pool (which was my second favorite at the park). Overall, Schlitterbahn has to be the best waterpark I've been to. It Great slides in a great setting with a great use of space. The food could be a little better, but it's park food. We then headed back to the hotel, got dressed, and then took the bus across the highway to have some epic pizza in an awesome shopping mall at the welcome dinner. We were also were treated to some taunting views of Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Six Flags Fiesta Texas with behind-the-scenes views of Iron Rattler are coming up soon. After circling the Philly Airport four times to find the correct lot and waiting an hour to go through security, here's what's going to take me on my first plane ride. Here's the boarding gate. After an sickening first flight, I landed in Houston and spent the next several hours exploring the terminals... and riding the monorail system. I wanted to ride the one built by Disney, but I didn't feel like having to go back though security again. It was kind of cool how there was no driver. For lunch, I had this view while eating a great cheeseburger. The view from 27,000 feet in the air is beautiful. The river is pretty winding. Much better than my first flight even though the plane was more spacious. There she is, the legendary Master Blaster. We had our own swim-up bar, pool, and cabanas. I am willing to bet after seeing a sign at the top that the wait time at that point is 30 minutes, that if the line went to the bottom, it would probably be two hours. Schlitterbahn was truly awesome. It had a bunch of attractions that I have ever even seen before. For example, this thing was epic. Kind of like a rapids ride without a giant raft. For it being 100 degrees out, the water made it feel like it was actually 70. The view from my hotel room. Clearly this isn't Pennsylvania. After a quick shower, we took the bus to a nearby mall for some epic pizza and the official welcome dinner for the trip. The mall is located right next to Six Flags Fiesta Texas, which gave us some time to drool over what we'll be riding the next day. Unlike malls in the northeast, this one was outdoors and had some great architecture. The pizza was epic. This is about 85% of the people on the trip. We filled this long and narrow room and some tables in the main dining area. Making friends is not that hard on a TPR trip. Six Flags Fiesta Texas and the coaster porn of Iron Rattler is coming up next.
  7. Before you get all upset, did you possible think it could be a safety issue? If the ride breaks down you could be stuck out on the track and it could be very difficult to evacuate you. Its possible, but if that were the case, they probably wouldn't let anyone in a wheelchair to ride altogether reguardless if they were running two or three trains.
  8. It sounds to me that the possible reasoning behind this might be that the ride probably '"sets up" (breaks down) if they have Three or four trains stack. I do find it odd that they would enact this policy, but I guess the way they are looking at is that it cuts back on breakdowns.
  9. To answer your question, Hersheypark's Facebook page made this post about two years ago: From October 28, 2011 As of right now according to the Weather Channel, the temperature is predicted to be 52 for the high and 32 for the low.
  10. Most rides are taken apart each year down to the bare frame and each nut, bolt, and part is inspected. Not all parks do this and I'm not sure if Knoebels does, but this could be what they might be doing. I hope it says because it is a pretty fun ride. But then again, this is the only ride other than Wipeout that I have ever seen down for maintenance when ever I go to the park, and even that is rare.
  11. They are starting to build a Chipotle in Hershey right now. Its been somewhat of a controversial topic because some of the townspeople think that there shouldn't be a fast food joint in town (it is actually technically called fast casual) and that it would ruin the overall look of it. The sad thing is that ten years ago there was a Hardees right across the street and people don't remember it. I welcome this addition because the only fast food places around Hersheypark are Wendy's, McDonalds, and a couple of Subways. EDIT: Fenicci's, which is located right across from The Hershey Story Museum is a pretty good pizza place with some of the best in town. The old world style is the best and they also have a nice ice cream and small sub shop nextdoor.
  12. I'm going to be honest, I really am not seeing the similarity. For it to be a double spine, the track would need to be completely be below the giga track a little more and there wouldn't be any rails from the Looping coaster track. Looks unique though. You really don't see many RCT3 park builders modifying and combining different tracks.
  13. I was thinking the same thing! Nice pictures of the flooding. I remember that picnic area from the TPR trip a few years ago. I think there was a good BBQ place nearby. It honestly feels like clockwork as Central Pa has had some sort of major storm or flooding event every year in this late August to late October time period. In 2011 we had Hurricane Sandy, Tropical Storm Lee (which was the worst), and a very unusual snowstorm in October, 2012 brought Hurricane Sandy, and 2013 has so far brought this massive rainstorm the other week. Hopefully this is the end of it for awhile. The lines for Friday most likely won't be bad at all, but it might be pretty full on Saturday like during the summer season. You're better off going on a Friday if you don't like lines.
  14. Not busy at all. I'd head to Fahrenheit first thing, then do Lightning Racer and work your way foreward. Saturday is the busier day and Sunday is slightly busier than a Friday, but not as packed as a Saturday.
  15. I stopped by after class this afternoon after class around 1pm. The water was rushing through the catering area, about one or two inches above the Skyrush path, and the dam was nowhere to be seen. The return cable for the lift hill does look like it was underwater at one point. ZooAmerica was closed today with 25 animals being moved to higher ground. As for the rain, it was pouring heavily for awhile late last night.
  16. Hersheypark has wait-times in their mobile app and they are pretty accurate and are constantly updated. Let's just say that they are addictive to have as once you go to a different park, you wish they have this type of thing implemented. Hopefully more parks follow suit and go this route.
  17. If it does indeed open this weekend, I'll have to see about making a special trip to check it out next weekend since I have off (would rather be at BGW and KD instead of ACEr Fest this year). I was starting to wonder if anyone has heard of it possibly opening this weekend. Hoping for the best!
  18. Works fine for me. Seems like a pretty useful app to view the forums on.
  19. It's been awhile since I've made some CS (custom scenery) items for RCT3 and I figured why not try my hand at creating a new transportation system? One of the downsides about Vodhin's Skyway Set, and I am not bashing it in anyway, is that the gondolas are not similar to most of the ones out there at parks like Cedar Point or Six Flags Great Adventure. I also wanted to design something that's more generic that can adapt to the parks that players build. Say hello to my Gondola Ropeway CS project, which is based off of Intamin's version of the Skyride. As of right now, I have three versions of gondolas planned: -Generic: These will be a series of red, blue, and yellow gondolas without any fancy markings or designs on them. They can hold up to four people. -King's Dominion Skyride: These gondolas will be similar in design to the generic design, but will feature the 70's KD logo on the entry doors. -Hersheypark Sky Ride: The design on the gondolas will be completely different from the other two and will feature alternating coal bucket and rhine-themed designs on the cars. I plan on releasing more themed designs and possibly other gondolas in the future to make the set constantly evolving. I know, the question you are probably wondering is, "Will the gondolas move?" The answer is no, because I have now knowledge on how to animate models and because when a player takes a screenshot, the ride will appear static anyways. Here's the list of pieces the set will include at this point. I'm starting out with the ride itself and may add some extras to go with it (station buildings, storage areas, etc): -Loading/Unloading Station track -Cable with Gondolas Gentle Slope Generic Gondolas -Support Tower Gentle to Flat Slope -Cable with Gondolas Flat Slope Generic Gondolas -Support Tower Flat to Flat Slope -Cable with Gondolas Gentle Slope KD Gondolas -Cable with Gondolas Gentle Slope HP Gondolas -Cable with Gondolas Flat Slope KD Gondolas -Cable with Gondolas Flat Slope HP Gondolas Feedback and advice is certainly welcome. Here is what the station sections are going to look like. I am debating weither to add the bull wheel or not since this section will most likely be built inside a building. I still need to go through and cut back the number polys on the curves. Here is what one of the towers look like. I'm going to make several of each so that there's an ability to build them pretty tall. Here is the design of the gondolas. These are pretty much ready to be imported into the game as soon as they are positioned. These are the KD version of the cars. The generic version won't have the KD logo on them. To make the ride, my plan is to build a smaller version of the ride in one piece, then make multiple files for each piece and delete certain sections. More coming soon.
  20. There's no doubt that the operations and heat were what made SFOT a terrible day. I've never seen a park with so many inexperienced ride operators, especially at Titan when they went through the station when it broke down and told everyone why they were closed (the lapbar wouldn't lock in the last row and they called maintenance to get a temporary fix for it). I kind of want to say that Mt. Olympus may have been slightly better, but I don't know.
  21. When I first looked at the press release, the list of what's being added, and the new park logo, I couldn't believe that I was looking at at Cedar Fair park. I think that this might be the 2014 announcement that I am most excited for, as a park I am able to visit. Now if they do the same at Kings Island, it might actually get be back there!
  22. Cesari's Pizza never really surprised me until I had the white broccoli. My god, it was good! I also had the BBQ Chicken, which was extremely saucy and wasn't too good. About the white birch beer, it's not really something exclusive to Knoebels. Hersheypark sells it at the Spring Creek Smokehouse. It tastes good, but is extremely annoying to fill up as it is very bubbly.
  23. Rode it last night for the last time in the front row after a 40 minute wait. I do have to say that it was one of my better rides on it. Whatever they did when they closed it down mid-season has helped smooth it out a little on the straight sections, but it did skip on the hills a little. The final turn into the brakes was still horrible and threw me around quite a bit. Am I sad to see it go? After this ride, yes, but Rolling Thunder was looking in pretty poor shape with a lot of the structure being half brown/black and white and the paint chipping. But I am actually looking more foreward to what the park will do in this space for 2015 and beyond. I think the people in the change.org group are not looking at the bigger picture and what possibilities it will open the park to down the road.
  24. Great to see the Windseekers starting to move outside of the Cedar Fair parks. Hopefully more parks go this route as they are fun rides and offer great views.
  25. I have finally added two boomerangs to my list and a inverted boomerang. What is strange by this is that when I hopped on Boomerang at SFFT, I was really expecting it to be worse than Sidewinder, but in fact it was actually pretty good! It wasn't rough, didn't slam into the brakes at the end, and seemed re-rideable. Then I rode the relocated one at SFStL and while it was slightly worse than the other one, it was still better than Sidewinder. When I got back from my trip, I re-rode Sidewinder and it seems like it improved slightly while I was on my trip and went back to be my #1 boomerang. Here is my ranking: 1. Sidewinder 2. Boomerang (SFFT) 3. Boomerang (SFStL) As for the suspended boomerangs, even though Kings Island's doesn't have a habit of stranding people like Stinger, it was pretty crappy compared to it. It may have had a new paint job, but the station looked like it could use some work. 1. Stinger (DP) 2. Invertigo (KI)
