I'm trying to understand what occurred, but i'm guessing either the catchcar failed to get ahold of the train correctly and it stopped suddenly just after releasing or the train was let go at the top and the station brakes stopped the train at a very sudden rate. Hopefully there will be more info to make it a little more clear. As much as I think it is not a bad ride, they have had quite a few issues with it with it getting in the news. Take it out and put something more reliable in its place.

Insane Coaster Wars Season 3
Ccron10 replied to CPSFMMCW's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think all of those coasters have starred in at least two coaster documentaries from the 90s. I'm pretty sure Fahrenheit will be featured this season as I think they filmed on it towards the end of summer last year. -
I think we stayed at one of the better motels, if I remember, was it like $260 per night? Yeah I don't think our room was too bad. I do remember us wrestling to try to get the TV to work and the bathroom could've been a little cleaner, but it wasn't bad for a basic room. I think what helped was that the group pretty much occupied much of our building and another so we didn't have any loud or annoying neighbors. I think it might've been worse in the buildings surrounding the parking lot where the bus nearly got stuck.

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

^^As much as I would love the road to go over that far, an earlier newspaper article had this in it where the road just kept going straight to the railroad tracks, then made a left turn: I'm kind of excited for the new road not just because of the park possibly recieving land, but because it will get rid of the old bridge and all the annoying curves the road has. I think I heard somewhere that the one on the other side of the park near ZooAmerica might be replaced soon. -

I was there and I can say that both Phoenix and Twister got quite a bit of retracking done that made quite a bit of difference than from last year. For Twister, they went down to the supports and retracked all layers of wood on the first drop and hill. A section of the first part of the helix was retracked as well. The result was one of the best rides I've had on that thing in years. As for Phoenix, the complete 2nd turn was retracked, which seem to make the trains feel a little faster through the rest of the ride. On a sidenote, Flying Turns was open with three trains and had a 90 minute wait all day. It was a great ride and one of the smoothest bobsled coasters I've ridden. It doesn't do a lot of banging going into the brake or lift sections and the main section gave a pretty out-of-control experience. I think it is a perfect fit for their coaster collection and a great ride of the family. I am kind of amazed at how their loading system works as it is pretty high-tech compared to what Knoebels has. Also, Power Surge is in the picnic area in pieces for a rehabbing process. I have a few photos from Saturday that I'll post when I get the chance. -

The two places I reccomend are the Alamo Restaurant and Cesari's Pizza. The Alamo is a indoor sit-down restaurant that isn't too expensive, but their serving sizes in the dishes are pretty big for their price. Plus it is air-conditioned making it a perfect place to cool off. As for Cesari's, they do have some unique pizza flavors, but my favorite is the white broccoli. Pair that with some tri-taters or perogies from a nearby stand and you have a pretty nice meal. Phoenix Junction Steakhouse is also a great place to eat with different types of burgers and items to choose from. Another place that I've heard that is good would be the International Food Court, which has a wide range of unique food items from all over the world. As for doing half a day at Knoebels and the other at Hershey, I really think you would need full day at each park to get the full expeience. Knoebels has quite a bit more unique things to do than just the coasters: the bumper cars are awesome, the two haunted attractions are good as well, and the train rides are the same. For Hershey, there are twelve coasters, Chocolate World nearby, and a bunch of other flat rides and if there is a concert on the day you visit, you might not have the time to get on everything you want to. But if you have been to both of these place before, then go for it. If not, then I highly advise doing a full day at Knoebels and a full day at Hershey. EDIT: Can't wait to get some of that tomorrow (makes me hungry thinking about it now)! -
I beg to differ. I personally think that a person would look at a nicely painted coaster and think that it is taken care of better and safer than one that looks faded, dirty, and hardly cared for. I'm sure it is safe, but I think the GP would go for a cleaner looking ride first and think higher of it than something that has tons of track lube and bird crap caked on it.

Went on Friday and was kind of surprised at how full it was. Spent 45 minutes in line (the configuration seemed to somewhat make sense as I got my card at the ticket gate and just needed to get my parking processed). Runaway Mine Train was also around 45 minutes as my parents decided to come along and went and rode it while I was doing this. Spent 90 minutes waiting for El Toro (the Looney Tunes cartoons made it seem shorter), 20 for Nitro (it was closed when I got to the park around 2pm, but it re-opened around 5pm), 15 for Batman which was riding in top-form, 10 for Dark Knight, walk-on for SkyScreamer and Skull Mountain, and waited 5 minutes for Superman at closing. As for Zoomanjaro, construction crews were busy working on the top of the tower with the crane for most of the day. I will say that Nitro looks worse and worse each year and I am kind of sad to see it in the shape that it is in. The yellow paint is pretty faded with track lube and dirt making it even worse, some of the drive tires in the station and just before the lift are either missing or don't work and the queue and station look pretty rundown. I think the only new thing I've seen on the ride were the lapbars.

Six Flags America Mardi Gras
Ccron10 replied to printersdevil78's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd call this a start in the right direction, but they still have ways to go to make it a place that people will enjoy visiting more. The new paint, theming, and new characters seem to help, but I'll believe it when I re-visit it (which might be later this year) and hopefully they can keep all this maintained the rest of the year. As for the gladiator/ wild-west show, it doesn't surprise me. Hopefully they plan on changing the background set. Good trip report, but I still feel a little skeptical on the improvements. Hopefully their next project will be for re-doing Gotham Field. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

Personally I don't think the park would think highly of someone making up a tweet like that to look like something their official Twitter account would post. If it sounded more like a parody then maybe, but I don't see any comedic value in it. As for Banshee's queue line, it looks great and seems one of the better Cedar Fair queues as far as theming goes. I'm guessing the tombstones will have removed rides on them? As far as operations goes, hopefully they do a better job than Diamondback as they constant stack all three trains the entire time I was there last year. -
The was surprising to see that when it happened! Basically the attendant went up the left side of the train checking the lapbars and when she got to around the middle of the train, she tugged on it and it came all the way open. Next a maintenance guy came over, tightened a bolt of the side of the car and the lapbar tightened up again. I swear we were the first train of the day considering that is also something that would've been caught in the morning test-runs if they had any.

Sorry about that, I really should've posted the article first. http://www.wkow.com/story/25132689/2014/04/01/mt-olympus-cited-with-4-code-violations-in-roller-coaster-accident The park also has stopped posting on their Facebook page since the incident as well since the last post was made March 4th. Compared to Six Flags, which was public about their incident, I really don't think silence is the best choice in something like this.

I guess it is now officially confirmed and it seems more tidbits have been added. The fact that the park trained, but didn't sign off the operators is against state law. Also, if these operators would've done a morning inspection, they likely would've caught that the lapbars weren't locking. Next, does Mount Olympus have its own public relations department? If they do, why in the world did they hire an external company to handle this? I know this is a common practice for large companies such as Cocoa Cola etc, but just about every park I know of has their own department and has had to do crisis management on much worse circumstances. If they do have one and they need to hire an outside company to do it, especially for the size of their resort including a club, a countless number of hotels, a water park and "theme" park, that is kind of poor. Then again, they probably have no experience on how to react to a situation like this. When it is not just one lapbar, but four, that just makes it worse and shows that there is a lack of attention to safety. The park must obviously be embarrassed by this now that they have said that they plan on removing Opa. I'm sure that they could easily replace the lapbars and re-open it, but it seems like they are going a different route. Along with going over the weight limit for the cars, with all these points I really don't see how the park would be able to avoid being charged by this. Good to hear the man has come out of his coma and I hope he recovers to the best of his abilities. This resort company seems so sleazy and it sounds like my comparison about the owner being like a cheap car salesman is possible. EDIT: Looking at the park's Facebook page reviews section is pretty interesting. Many 1-star reviews, a few 2 and 3-stars, and just about no 5-star reviews.
-
Might be? The locking mechanism was stripped, causing the restraint to fail. What more evidence do you need? I think it was, but if I remember correctly, that ride is built on some of the flattest land in the park. I was being cautious with my statement considering that something could be released that could actually blamed on something else. Take the NTAG accident for example. No need to be defensive.

I'd cope as that hill was insane, but the rest of the ride was pretty rough IMO. If this would cause the closure of Mount Olympus (which I doubt), I really wouldn't expect the wooden coasters to go anywhere since most of them are built to their terrain. Cyclops is on a hillside, Zeus is somewhat the same, Hades360 is a mixture of hillside, tunnel and flat land, but Pegasus might have potential, but I really don't know who could want it as it would probably need all new wood. I would kind of miss the water park as the indoor slides and Poseidon's Revenge were fun. As much as I hate people suing the parks over the stupidest crap, I think this situation would be justified considering it sounds like the park might be at fault for this.

Here is another along with a story from a witness: http://m.wkow.com/w/main/story/112394208/ So the operator noticed what happened, stopped the ride, started crying and then ran to the bathroom instead of running over to assist the guest? Since this is Mount Olympus, I am absolutely not surprised. Should be interesting to find out the official cause the loose lapbar. Either way, it doesn't make the park look good at all.

It really wouldn't surprise me if they close the gate at the Golden Kingdom entrance in the Boardwalk and keep that section of the park closed until Ka and Zoomanjaro opens and not even bother with the old path that ran over to El Toro. From looking at the map, I really can't see if that path is shown as there are just so many buildings in that area. I guess is could be possible since it looks like the baboons are tucked a little farther back from the midway. Wasn't the reason why they closed it in the first place because of Rolling Thunder or is that just a myth? Lastly, I wonder if that building near Zoomanjaro's entrance is going to exist and if so, could it be something besides lockers? EDIT: Same here Dan. I haven't even ventured on to SORA last year as I didn't feel like waiting in line for it in the rain for one of the days I was there and didn't feel like waiting in the hot sun. With Ka being closed, I'll see about venturing over and put in the time for it in a few weeks.

Can't believe they need a SIGN!

Tps replied to me asking that question/ The answer is no. But like the above comment says someone can make it I think it should be relatively easy to make any type of track. The way the track is 'drawn' progressively would require just a basic cross section model of the track, which is then extruded, with I presume a second model of the track ties copied at regular intervals. I'm a cad designer and this must be how it works, so creating custom coaster track (by copying then modifying an existing track type) should be a lot easier than in rtc3, where you would need to modify each preset track piece. So I'm expecting a coaster track could be used to create just about any track ride: monorail, train, boats and even cars. I'm kind of wondering the same thing as it would really make the game an epic win in my book. I think it would be kind of restrictive if they only came out with a certain number of tracks and say "there you go. You can't create your own" or even "we'll create them for you". Looking through the files for where you can place stuff for the game, I haven't came across a folder for tracks, but hopefully it could be added later on or be a folder I overlooked. I guess the alternative would be to possibly create the RMC or ride that has a non-offered track style would be to completely design and import the ride as a flat ride.

More bad press for Six Flags.....or not?
Ccron10 replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Exactly. It only took me two or three minutes to pull up the rider safety guide. If he knew he was disabled and was planning on visiting the park for the first time, why didn't he find out more information on their website? It says that he suffered the injury in 2011, so I really can't tell if he has been to SFFT before or if he went to another park before then. He would be an idiot if he did and he only complained about it now.
