  1. According to RCDB it does. I remember going down to Myrtle Beach for New Years Eve 1999 (my family's first New Years Eve after moving from Washington State) and much of the Pavilion was covered in dirt at the time for construction of the Hurricane. We also went Memorial Day in its first year of operation (2000), but didn't get a chance to ride it. I did get a chance to visit the park in its closing season. Until you mentioned it, it never really hit me how little time there really was between our New Years visit in 99/00 and the day I visited the park, which was only a bit more than a month before the last day of the park.
  2. What CCI's are left that have the gerstlauer trains (Not including Twisted Twins or Mega Zeph since they are SBNO)? The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Cheetah in Wild Adventures.
  3. That is a very generous thing of you to do Mike! It's no wonder you have become such a popular figure here on TPR. You definatly seem like a genuinly awesome person to hang out with, based on what others have said about you in your thread and others. I certainly hope to have the opportunity to hang out with you in the near future. Gary T.
  4. I was just checking out the coasterbuzz site, and apparently they found an article about the possibility of Cedar Fair selling the park to the 49ers for around $110 million, but the 49ers are fighting the price since the county estimated its value to be around $44 million. here is the link to the article: http://www.mercurynews.com/politics/ci_9939802?nclick_check=1
  5. gotta love that 3 cent discount at Wally World!
  6. $3.89 here in Greenville, NC. We were lucky and pretty much stayed under $4 other than a station or two that went above.
  7. So we know that Dipper is planned for being "rebuilt", Villain, Double Loop and likely Raging Wolf Bobs are scrap; Dominator, Thunderhawk, X-Flight and Steel Venom were relocated; and Head Spin is rumored to be heading to Carowinds. Has there been anything about Beaver Land Mine Ride yet, or is it an unkown dissapearance for now?
  8. Perhaps it is an issue of the county allowing it to be renovated? Some place just don't care for things to be brought up-to-date. The town that my wife lived in growing up (Hillsdale, MI) has always been slow to bring the town up with the times. They rejected the addition of Wal-Mart because they "wanted to keep the small town feel", so the town of Jonesville, which isn't even but a few miles away. There is also an FEC that is located just within the city limits called Silos that took a loooooong time to get approval since it would "ruin the small town feel", although it may have been more to do with the fact that the mayor at the time was the owner of the roller rink, and was not interested in competition. While these are two situations that may not quite be the same, it could be simmilar to the house renovation since this could be a case of local politics being the biggest roadblock.
  9. Sounds like you packed in quite a bit in a short amount of time. About how much did it cost for the train from London to Paris?
  10. just for curiousity's sake, what are the time frames for those trips, or has that been determined?
  11. KidTums's test seat picture is just adorable. She looks like she enjoyed the stationary seat experience. Even though the seat is stationary, she still has her hands up, I hope my kids in the future will be as cute!
  12. Easily my new favorite movie! I think Ledger NAILED the part. I could see this movie getting a nomination for best film, although the Oscars tend to stay away from the superhero films. I agree with you mcjaco, you do just get sucked in! It left the feeling that many of the things that occured could truly happen. Melissa and I are planning on going to see it agian Thursday.
  13. What I have done so far: Six Flags Over Georgia Kennywood Adventure Park USA Planet Fun Six Flags America Busch Gardens Europe Go-Karts Plus Still To Come: Cedar Point Fun Spot Paige's Crossing (Possibly) Hard Rock Park (Possibly)
  14. The "do-it-yourself" park looks awesome! How did the pricing at the park work? Was it where you paid for admission, or was it a pay-per-ride type of park? If it was pay-per-ride, would you have to pay for some of the playground equipment style rides, or were those free to use?
  15. My favorite major leauge ballpark is good old Safeco Field in Seattle. I love being able to see Mount Rainier while sitting on the north side of the stadium, or seeing downtown Seattle behind the left-field bleachers. My Least Favorite would probably be the Kingdome. While it holds a special place in my heart since it was a big part of my childhood, but it wasn't exactly a great ballpark. I also the the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC. It is a minor leauge ballpark that is worthy of hosting a Major Leauge team. One of the beast features of the ballpark is that they still have the Bull from the Bull Durham movie!
  16. Personally, I like the additions for Kings Dominion. I agree that El Durado (sorry if spelled incorrectly) would fit great near the old Happy Days Diner. I would say that the side of the farris wheel should be located around the entrance of HyperSonic, face out to the midway, and trees re-planted in the old hypersonic station and queue area. Stick the spider in the old turn around area of Hypersonic, and I think it would be great! But that is just my line of thinking.
  17. Big Mike, I just spent parts of the past three days getting caught up on the road show since out desktop is very slow to load pictures. Now that we solved that problem with a lap top, I was able to get caught up. Great pictures as always! Gary "hoping to see you at Hard Rock" T.
  18. I would also suggest that you consider taking the day you planned for Busch Gardens as a day off. Driving through West Virginia can take a good chunk of time as it is pretty much all mountains in the state, and you would drive across a bit of VA before you get to WVa, and then Huntington is on the other side of the state. If you are going to stick with going to Busch, then you may consider switching it with Kings Dominion, so that you have an hour or so less to drive to Camden. Looks like a great trip to make! I am sure many here would love to see the trip report.
  19. On the other hand, I would guess that Kings Island attracts more people per year than Carowinds, and possibly draws more out-of-town visitors than Carowinds. It is hard to say for sure since I have not seen actual numbers for the parks, and as far as I am aware of, their numbers are not made public. If the population growth of a city were more of a determination of the types of rides added to a park, then I would think Wild Waves in Fedaral Way, WA would have at least 7 coasters and some major flats by now since the Seattle area has expirienced some of the fastest growth in the country. However, the park is really not as popular as other attrations and sights in Seattle, which could be a possible factor for Carowinds as many people may be visiting Charlotte for various reasons that do not include Carowinds, or some people who live in the area may choose to do more of other things that Carowinds.
  20. It looked like Gladiator's Gauntlet was in the DaVinci's Garden area based on the pictures shown in this thread, I never would have guessed it was in the same area as Apollo. I am going to join the bandwagon for the comparison pics, I think it is always cool when you can make those kinds of comparisons.
  21. This park definately seems like one to visit when in the area. About how far from the central Paris area would you say it was?
  22. I could see them replacing the Nick characters with Snoopy and crew. You figure that Cedar Fair has had a longer relationship with the company that licences Peanuts to them, and it may be a matter of having a uniform set of characters at all Cedar Fair parks. I would be curious to see how well Snoopy would be recieved here in the Southern parks (Carowinds and Kings Dominion).
  23. Oh, what a great film this is looking to become. Melissa and I saw the most recent trailer when we saw Wanted last night, and I have to say the seeing these trailers on the computer did it no justice. I think the big screen will be the best way to see this movie.
  24. ^I have to agree with Erik that the thing about SFA isn't the appearance of the park, but the lack of effort on the part of many of the employees. In the four visits I have made to the park, only the first one (2006) was what I would consider a great visit. On that day, the lines were fairly short, and the wait for the rides were minimal as there was two train operation on all of those that could (except for Joker's Jinx which was closed due to the Chiller accident, and Mind Eraser only had one train running). The other three visits were filled with minimal operations of either one train on many coasters, or many rides were closed for the whole day (In a visit I made last year in mid-June, it seemed like only the coasters and the waterpark were open, as many of the flat rides were not operating). To be fair, I will give them credit for the fact that both woodies had two trains on every visit I have made to the park. I don't know that I would make a point to go back to SFA over other parks, but if they can pick operations back up to a level more on par with other parks in the chain based on the reports of others, than I may be more willing to.
  25. Personally, I am not a fan of the relocation since it will take out a ride that was just plain fun (Although I never did have to wait in a mid-summer line for it). I am guessing that there is a slim-to-none chance of them changing the trains, but I could see it getting a paint job at least. Every other former GL coaster has recieved one thus far. The sad thing though is that this would be the park's tallest coaster. I wonder if they would advirtise it as such? -Gary T.
