  1. It was interesting to watch it being built too. I went to high school across the street during construction, and all you could see was an elevated corkscrew looking thing with no lift (obviously) connected. Not being tuned into the coaster community at the time, I thought it was going to be a Drachen Fire like element.
  2. I believe Universal sent out a contracting bid, Premier and Lockheed-Martin were both in the running. Lockheed-Martin had proposed LSM's versus Premier's tire propulsion. Premier won the bid do to cheaper costs.
  3. No offense, but planning is crucial! Figure out how mane people there are goiiing to be in your party, THEN, figure out your accomodation, and Public transportation...good things happen to those that plan ahead!
  4. hahah, of course,!! I hope you are the first to ride! can we get on to the real stuff now?
  5. Cost: I-beam supports are probably cheaper, Tubular steel only being used where it needs to be. I would doubt there are any "funny" stories. In an engineer's world, form follows function. I would bet it is a financial/ cost saving solution. except this one, I have no idea...is this even theming?
  6. Great Event! I wish I could have gone. I am a foodie, love all types, and I'm not even fat! I wish San Jose or San Francisco would (or has/did?) host one of these types of events...I would wait in the lines with an hours worth of other vendors food in my hands! thanks for sharing! I'm jealous.
  7. ^ Never! you are talking about the worlds most visited theme park, during the worlds most popular vacation time of the year, in the worlds largest tourism based city! A Monday or Tuesday is probably your best bet, except all the three day holidays. It will rain. It will be humid and muggy, and nearly miserable. I lived 10 minutes up the road for 10 years, worked there for two, and return every summer and winter, haven't been to Magic Kingdom in 7 years. Oh yeah, Flash Passes will be out by pre-noon. I hope that is enough info.
  8. ^ Hey! CGA was my home park, I am one of those people you speak of since 1990. Hope has nothing to do with it, I hope for the best, however I am a realist, and know something foul when i see it. EDIT: no hope for rebound, Even if ride removal isn't enough, Ceder Fair said it themselves! is there even room to debate this?
  9. Yeah, I agree with the past 8 pages, Batman clones rule! Vekoma's "roll-over kidney bean" works much better on their standard Sit Down coasters. IE: Rockin' Rollercoaster. But their Standard SLC's have nothing to compare. Too slow, too rough, and poor pacing. The only thing I enjoy about the Vekoma's SLC's is the final 1/3rd curving bit of the first drop.
  10. I posted this when Invertigos removal was a rumor . now that its confirmed, I said it once and I'll say it again. THIS PARK IS DEAD. Sorry guys, no Maverick clone (that idea must have started while sleeping, farting and sneezing while on magic mushrooms...at the same time!) Why doesn't anyone get it?
  11. Huh?? This doesn't make any sense to me at all. Are you trying to say that the train is being launched and being slowed down at the same time? Factor in what? If what you say is true, what is there to factor in? If its a slower launch than 149mph, then so be it. This doesn't make sense either, why does maximum velocity have to happen at the end of the launch?? Etiher way, unless someone has a digital or radar speedometer readout for Formula Rossa VS. Kingda Ka, I think speculation is obsolete. Will we see a coaster Faster and Taller? Absolutely, only a matter of time, market, finance, and buyer.
  12. ^Thanks, never heard about that incident, where-as I had read about all the others at MM. I never like learning about accidents like these, but it's a shame that most major park injuries/deaths are in direct correlation with the ignorance of the person effected. Remove the ignorant factor, and the mass majority of all these accidents never would've happened I feel it speaks volumes about the safety of the actual rides. Dan "mentally aware matters" Strickland
  13. ^what happened? This isn't reference too a Batman incident I assume
  14. I think the deal with HRRR was budget and time constraints. I was informed that Universal had contacted B&M about the idea, and because of Universal's demands, ie: Unique elements/first of its kind, budget limitations, and completed time-line/time restrictions, B&M declined the project.
  15. This thread isn't to talk about Dorney getting the new coaster, Its about CGA losing it. Too much huh? well good for you to complain about abundance, however we are losing a major attraction at out home park. At least the locals for Dorney get a new ride, But the locals for CGA lose an entire park. In my speculation, (I've said it before) this is the beginning to an end. IF Cedar Fair could add a new coaster, they would have...3 years ago. That never happened so why is everyone so hell-bent on expecting a new one now? Sounds like a bunch of concrete and parking lot to me! Trust me, I hate to lose my home park, but if you follow the controversy behind all this stadium stuff, its not that hard to figure out.
  16. ^^^ I'm curious why a footprint means Son Of Beast, I've never been to the park so I don't know. But I've never seen the Beast or the "Son of" associated with a footprint graphic. Looks like a reptile or dinosaur print to me. Please, tell me otherwise if I'm wrong. Everything that I've read, says "S.O.B." shouldn't return. Maybe I'm looking too far into things, or way too curious, but could this be something better for the park? Again, never been there, not my home park, and don't know much about it...just curious why the marketing gets a "Son Of Beast" label put on it.
  17. Speculation only?? I say Ceder Point if anywhere. It kind of fills in their collection (boomerang/ SLC/ 6 more inversions) and would tie SFMM in numbers.
  18. Using some basic math and estimations...The total height is 235 feet, forget the tunnel. Therefore we know from pictures that the max height of the second hill is just slightly less than 235', factor in friction etc, I'm assuming 30 or so feet shorter then the original 235 feet. Now we got about 205 feet. From Pictures we can tell there is about a 10' decline in the turn around, although the drop and banking is consistent, its hard to tell where the "turn-around" ends and the drop begins. Factor in the 3 feet or so of footings at the bottom, I would guess 180-190 is a solid estimation.
  19. OK, well I seem to be alone on this one, but the park is no longer dying, its dead. I have a very hard time believing that they will replace Invertigo with a new ride/coaster. IF the rumors are true, and they are in fact removing Invertgo, that will be the beginning to the end. Nothing will take its place, not a new GCI, and (sorry Scott), not even a wind seeker. I hate to see it happen, but with all this douche-bagerry and the 49'ers. I doubt it. Anywhere else in the country theme parks survive next to major stadiums with success...I think there is enough "bad blood" in this case to seal the deal on CGA's fate. Dan "PLEASE prove me wrong" Strickland
  20. ^ Agreed! for a B&M invert, I thinks it is the most unique one out there, maybe short and sweet, but never duplicated. Batman is my Favorite invert, out of the few I have ridden (Montu, Dueling Dragons, Silver Bullet and Top Gun). But I think Top Gun...errr, Flight Deck is the most unique, and still great despite its age!
  21. ^Rare indeed! I loved that coaster when it was at WoF, I would love to re-ride it in its new location, but realize I probably never will. That was my first coaster ever, and is the reason for me being an enthusiast.
  22. Scott Brown wrote haha! and I will never forget, I can remember watching that wobble with you over and over again, watching the train shake it's A$$, you've been fascinated with it ever since the coaster was built! (and I never understood why it wasn't a smoother transition)
  23. Interesting, I found some info on the proposed park, but nothing on the racing coaster. I found renderings showing a weird, single spike, launched coaster, no loop, but not inverted. Has anyone seen any renderings of the "racing coaster"? Who made the track?
  24. Wow!, Thank you. It sounds like you guys had a lot figured out. I love the concept, as I have always been enthralled by the evolution of manned flight of any kind. The Spruce-Goose!? That would have been amazing if you were able to get that masterpiece(?) on site! It seems though it may have been very disappointing to see all of your seemingly original ideas come to fruition by someone else. I'm sorry the economical times and a "messed up deck of cards" prevented this. The "airshow" that was planned however, sounds very ambitious, not saying you guys couldn't have pulled it off, but the cost involved, pilots, fuel, planes, etc...may have been very difficult to get off the ground (pun intended). Regardless though, great effort! If Theme park/ Amusement park entrepreneurs had this level of detail, or focus of attention on their ideas today, I feel we would see more original parks. Hard-Rock/Freestyle, that funny mars place proposed a few years back, and the silly thrill park trying to be built in Orlando come to mind.
  25. I never thought Psyclone was that bad, the little tweak at the top of the first drop is really the roughest part I remember, BUT, I rode it pre 1994. From reading up on it it though, sounds like the earthquake really did some damage. I'm curious how/why an earthquake would ruin the ride. Obviously I understand the severity of the Northridge quake, but I also understand the logistics of the ride. Footers didn't move, any broken wood would have been replaced, and I'm sure the structural integrity wasn't compromised. I don't doubt that the earthquake made the difference, I'm interested in the specifics though. Can anyone shed some light on my curiosity?
